Advantage Arsenal in race for Russian playmaker
by stresster on July 14th, 2008The Gunners are well-known across Europe for their exciting brand of football, even if they do try to pass the ball into the net sometimes. It appears that their reputation has preceded them in the case of Andrei Arshavin and his agent, the latter of whom has hinted that Arsenal’s style of play would suit the Russian forward as he seeks a move away from Zenit.
The Daily Telegraph report that Dennis Lachter has given every Gooner a reason to be cheerful on a Monday morning.
Arshavin’s agent, Dennis Lachter said: “The stable situation in the club and the influence of Arsene Wenger to Arsenal to English football is huge. I think this is an advantage.
“If Arsenal go for Arshavin it could be really good for both parties. Arsenal is a very young team and Arshavin is 27. There’s something about combining young and older players, they propagate attacking football.”
Well, well, well. These quotes look very encouraging as far as Arsenal are concerned, maybe it’s not always the richest club that wins the race to sign a player. It would be great to see Arshavin line up alongside Cesc Fabregas next season, what a central midfield pairing that would be. Will this dream become a reality?

I’m a Gooner and this doesn’t really make me cheerful. He would cost too much and I don’t think we need him now that we’ve signed Nasri.
Their are other areas which I believe we need to strengthen.
GOONERISM - July 14th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
he’s only decided to come to arsenal cos barca rejected him…he is way too expensive ..i dont see arsene spending that much on a 27 year old…we need a CB , a wide player ( for depth ) and a striker to replace adebayor..
long live gunners

Arshavin can play left midfield and take the place of greedy Pleb. Also his price now is around the £16m mark. If Arsene is interested (which I think he is) he is the best negotiator going and try to lower the price.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr No.
Gooders - July 14th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
At 27 years of age you have thought he would have been heard of prior to these Championships … just like some of the Senegal team agents just trying to capatalise on a few good appearances. Arsene is too clever to be conned … he will pay far less and get loads more ! Cant wait to see you back on the pitch Eduardo ..

I guess he would be a good addition to our squad….bt he is too expensive for my liking…..Lets hope arsene will try to develop the young players like Theo, vela, bendtiner, ramsey, denilson and diaby and give them chance…..
alan - July 14th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Iam getting fed with it all.
gg - July 14th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
arshavin only wants to come to the gunners because he has nowhere else to go. plz don’t buy him, nasri is good enough to pair cesc. also, buy david villa/benzema as replacement for adebye-bye.
arsenal-maniac - July 14th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
To all of you who think Arshavin is not good enough and too expensive you should learn more about football and stop fucking believing that news paper bullshit……
stop judging arshavin on one pour game in euro 2008….. arsenal never replaced pires….well arshavin is the answer……. and all of you idiots should know that every player has a buyout clause….and it doesn’t matter how much zenit wants for him……they will get 10mil£ for him and thats it….the crap about that some unnamed english club offered 19mil£ for him is just is pure bolox…… Wenger knows what he is doing and believe me arsenal will be on top of that lader next season…..
joseph capello - July 14th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
we can do with the russian, but at a little lower price.besides we need the money for a decent striker, like santa cruz maybe
qwerty - July 14th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
i don’t doubt arshavin’s talent but i have serious doubts about his intention. one minute he’s saying his dream is to play for barcelona and the next minute, it’s his dream to play under wenger. o ye, i agree wiv gg, david villa for arsenal even tho there is no chance we’l b able 2 afford him!!!

I just have this nagging feeling that we won’t get a defender. Song has just signed a new deal and Wenger was playing him at CH for the last bit of the season and plus we have Djourou back who might might just be deployed as a defensive midfielder. Expect one other midfielder (i don’t think it will be Barry as Wenger will be seduced for by another playmaker) and a striker if Adebayor goes……

You and me both Alan……..all this transfer business it getting on my bloody nerves. Gets worse as each season goes by.
It was Arshavins dream to play for Barca - are we yet another stepping stone - he can jog on!!!!!!
THE Gun - July 14th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
We all know if Arshavin is bought and he plays badly he will stay
if he plays well Barca will buy him. he will be a waste and when barca buys him then his value would have dropped. barca was always his first choice. him like Flamini, adebayor and Hleb just want to use the club to make bigger moves. i rather put my faith in Eboue
cem - July 14th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
why do u guys want villa?????? We have a better player in Eduardo and they are similar types.
Arshavin maybe had a poor game agains Holland, but he had 2 good games as well. So the mentality is you cannot have bad games. Every player has poor games. By your comments we would believe Ronaldo is a bad player, because he had a poor Euro2008. Now and then all players have games where they dont perform to the level that is expected of them and that is very human.
I think Arshavin could be an useful player for us on the left side, but of course we won’t breake the bank for his signature.
omar - July 14th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
arshavin is a wonderful player to watch in addition to the fact that he really looks like an arsenal player…. i just wish he was 23 or 24. we are definately not buying him for that price and plus where is he gonna play? his position for russia was abit like van persie for us and there is no way hee’s replacing van persie. even if adebayor does leave its not arshavin we will get. 100 percent hee’s not comming to arsenal, i just hope he doesn’t go to spurs
dan - July 14th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
jeeeezz.. how the mighty have fallen. he’s a decent player but worth 7-8 mil. his agent has really screwed this kid up but good. back to st. petersburg.
XP - July 15th, 2008 at 12:38 am
if we can use Hleb’s transfer $$ to buy him,
i think is a good buy…
he is better than Hleb,
and in marketing view, we will have opened up
the Russia’s market…
GOONERISM - July 15th, 2008 at 6:44 am
yeah, poor fella..his agent messed it up
Josh - July 15th, 2008 at 9:58 am
Don’t write Arshavin off purely because of his age. Pires and Rosicky were only 26 when they moved over. I would like to see Arshavin as a replacement for Hleb, which allows Nasri to get up to speed with the league. However, I don’t think we should bid any more than 10-15 million pounds.
Sajit - July 15th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
If Hleb is leaving, then Arshavin would be a good buy. We need to add bodies not replace the persons leaving. So Nasri and Arshavin in, Hleb out. Sounds good to me. Though personally I would stick with the Belarussian.
David - July 15th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
if we sell senderous we can use all de money we get from him and buy arshavin……….lol
