Blackburn boss ready to stave off Villa and Spurs’ Bentley hunt
by stresster on July 15th, 2008Paul Ince might be just about to experience a baptism of fire. The new Blackburn manager has inherited a half-decent squad, although it appears that the former Liverpool and Man United player will need all his powers of persuasion to ensure David Bentley, Roque Santa Cruz and Brad Friedel remain at the club. How many of the trio will he manage to keep?
The Press Association report that ‘The Guv’nor’ is ready for the battle to keep hold of his best players, already fending off a bid for his England international winger.
He said: “When I came to Blackburn I said I wanted to keep my best players, and Brad Friedel comes into that category, he is one of the best ‘keepers in the Premier League.
“There is no interest from me in Paul Robinson, as far as I am concerned I want to keep Brad. I do not want to sell Brad, so why should I want Paul Robinson.
“As for the David Bentley situation, that will not go away, only time will tell whether he is here in August. He would have played at Macclesfield if he had not been injured, but I know that in football players come and players go.
“We have had an offer from Aston Villa, but I do not want him to go. But he is injured and he will have a couple of days off and I hope to take him to Germany on Wednesday for or training trip.”
With Tottenham also supposedly sniffing around David Bentley, it doesn’t appear that Ince is too confident of keeping this player, despite him trying to sound bullish. Are Rovers set for a season of struggle under their new manager next term, or will he confound his critics by keeping his top players and ensuring a top-half finish at the very least.

I really hope spurs sign bentley, and dont let aston villa take him from under our noses!
i think he would be a great adition to the squad.
i also think that if we do eventually sign him, we should sell berbatov for 25-30 million and buy santa cruz as a replacement.
santa cruz scored more goals than berbatov last season and is a better team player, and teams up well with bentley, so i really hope we get bentely signed up soon and santa cruz not long after

I am not one to belittle Rovers, unlike some - but the sad fact of life is that, without Sir Jack’s millions they are just one of several clubs (many presently in the Championship, or even lower), who are capable fo competing for spells in the mid-top-half of the Premier League (or, the top division in england - if, like me, you are sick of teh obsession with the prem. as if there were no top flight football before then).
Mark Hughes did an incredible job taking a team that was relegation candidates and turning them into this Blackburn team - I suspect that Incy is going to have to let the best of that team go, and build his own team. Only then will he get something like a settled team with layers who are eager to play for him - just my opinion .

exactly wot i was about to say spursryan, and we could also buy de la red or veloso or albelda

Here’s the deal: Bentley and Santa Claus in exchange for Lemon, Robinson, DBent and 4M. Everyone should be happy with that.

Spurs Ryan why not take Ewood Park whilst you’re at it, you could use it as a training ground fir away matches in the North
You could also nick our kit too….oh yeah you already did that last season! Build your own team and stop trying to nick players off us…

If its a straight race between villa and spurs, Villa will win every time. Anyway, Spurs havent even inquired about bentley so where their interest comes from , who knows.
Terry Tickle - July 15th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Sorry Terry but I can’t see him going to Villa over Spurs unless they pull out and he wants to save face by sticking by his comments so far.
He already plays for a Uefa cup team (ok not this season but 4 times in 6 years) based in a crap area why stepside to Birmingham? He’ll go to Spurs only because it’s in London and he’s a bit of a wannabe big time charlie.
Whatever, he aint going to a CL team which is what he was hoping for when he came out and said he wanted to leave. I bet he’s asking why only level par clubs are coming in.

bentley will be revealed tommorrow!! They agreed personal terms today. The source was from a ARSENAL reserve team player who used to play together. 15 MILLION CASH

This is mostly another stupid my team is better than your team argument. Bentley wants to move back to London and is from a legion of family Spurs supporters. Why is it not difficult to figure out the conclusion? This deal was done before the Ince appointment and is bound to happen now that his holyness has had time to figure out what’s going on up there.

Two fingers!
The *only time* anyone gives credit to the Blackburn players is when the window opens then everybody wants to know. Do what the greatest player (Pele) in the world told Ronaldo ***honour the contacts** all BB rovers players inc Brad, Santa, Bently are *all under contract. Why would we want to lose Santa Cruz, we only bought him last season..hahahaah
Fergie won’t have his players hunted so why should Blackburn…and Santa Cruz does’nt even want to go as stated by him last week.

You make me laugh, All i heard was spurs was a top four team last year. Oh yeah that did not happen did it. Now you are all saying Blackburn need to sell. Oh that is wrong as well. Blackburn rovers are one of 5 clubs which the future is healthy. Not massive profits however no massive debts.
Now to all you spunk fans who have not seen Bentley play. He is better than any one of your players at present. If you get him for 18 million you have got a good deal. You paid 16.5 million for a ass, so going by that price tag he is worth more than Ronaldo. Let all laugh at spurs, lets all laugh at spurs. Please bents if you do go leave and go to Aston villa.
