Could this Tottenham striker match Cantona’s brilliance at Manchester United? This ex-Arsenal player thinks so!
by Dexter on July 15th, 2008 Only The Sun could bring us an ex-Arsenal legend sticking his oar in over the Berbatov to Man Utd saga, claiming that the Spurs striker could be the new Cantona if he joined the Old Trafford outfit.
Yep, that’s right CaughtOffsiders, Ian Wright reckons that Berba could be the new Cantona and even claims that he has a touch of Bergkamp about him. Hmmmm…
Where there is hope, at least there is Dimitar Berbatov.
The moody Bulgarian is bang on Alex Ferguson’s radar and I reckon he is the Eric Cantona clone the United faithful have been praying for.
The languid style. The look of not being interested — before turning on the stunning skill. The pure class.
Cantona had bucketloads of it and so does Berba. He’s just got the vibe, if you know what I mean.
There is a bit of Dennis Bergkamp about him, too but the Cantona comparison is spot on. (The Sun)
So will Berba be a success at Utd and one day sit alongside Eric Cantona in fans’ hearts?

What does that Gooner know ??? One of his sons is a thief and the other is a bench warmer, he knows f*ck all, I tell thee!!

A BIQ QUESTION , how will an angry Fergie put up with BERBATOV when he gets into one of his sulks , and the side go through their usual dip, sometimes the effort seems to all too difficult for him , dont think he really will be the influence and winner CANTONA and BERGKAMP were, and in fact what Tevez and Rooney are.
MANURE - July 15th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
he can emulate cantona’s feet provided he gets to play ahead of an ever fattening and overrated Rooney… berba is way better than rooney and the quicker he leaves spuds the better for him…

Dazwhite - July 15th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Hector, you wont have to worry yourself as to how Fergie will handle Berbatov, cause he aint going to Manure, he is staying at the Lane if not then we will only sell him abroad. Spurs top- four finish this year.
jack - July 15th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
spurs top 4 finish, hahahahahah in the fair play league maybe
norwegian yid - July 15th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
there’s only one Berbatov. Dont compare him to Cantona. I sure hope he stays, or at least goes to a club like Real Madrid. Cant picture him living in Manchester.
Nick M - July 15th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
Exageration of a quote as usual. Don’t get me wrong, Cantona was a great player but he had many great players with him. Berbatov could be a great player but won’t score thirty odd goals a season either. Man U do not need another ’second striker’, Rooney and Tevez both fill that role. 30m will turn into 10m when he throws a sulk and Fergie kicks him out.
Also, I admire the optimism of the Spurs fan but please don’t expect miracles, you’ll be mid table again. It’ll be a long long time till you finish above the Arsenal.
NOT FOR SALE!! - July 15th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Be the best 30m we ever get, for a player who’s aged 31 wait and see!!
nickynicknick - July 15th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
You better hope Berba is on his way somewhere cos otherwise he is going to sulk on the bench til January and end up at Leeds for £5M. He just dont want another game at the lane and who could blame him. He carried the spuds all season.
Sean - July 15th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
nickynicknick - PMSL. I guess you must have seen loads of Spurs games last year.
As a matter of fact he had his usual TERRIBLE start to the season, and probably cost Martin Jol his job. He then looked interested when things were going well, but hardly caried the team. if anyone did that it was Keane and malbranque, and Woodgate and Hutton from january.
Folk like you make me laugh.
Actually, most Spurs fans are pretty reconciled to his going - I for one seriously doubt that he will seem so indispnsible when Ramos gets the midfield to play his high-tempo, high workrate, muchos closing down 4-5-1 system. Indeed, he may even look somewhat off of the pace.
if we keep him = fine; if we make red faced, rogue faced, hypocritically exposed, baboon buttocks Fungus-son Ferguson raid his picky bank with his blotchy robber hands, well, that’s okay too.
Most Spurs fans are actually much more concerned about the prospect of losing Keane to Rafa “hwe knows my idea” Benitez, anyway.
Watch Spurs fly next year COYS

THIS IS TRUE THE SCOTS MAN IS IN FOR A BATTLE HE WILL LOSE WE WANTED TO SELL CARRICK BECAUSE WE THOUGHT HE DIDENT MATTER AND HE WOULDENT HAVE I JOL HAD DROPPED ROBBO SOONER SO I WOUULD FUCK RUDOLF AND LET BERBY PASS THE DRINKS WHEN THE SPURS COME OF THE PITCH .AN WATCH DOS SANTOS SHOW THE LAZY BASTARD HOW TO RUN I NOTICED HE NEVER SCORED OR ROBBIE AGAINST THE MINOWS UNLESS WE GET SANTA RUDOLF SHOULD NOT PULL BERBYS SLAY.
YidoYank - July 15th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
I’ll tell you one thing I’m looking forward to is when Berba throws his hands in the air like a schoolgirl when he doesn’t receive a pass from Rooney and Wayne gets in his face…Have fun United when Berba takes out his dummy and tosses it on the Old Trafford pitch
COYS!!!! - July 15th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
Sean…exactly what I’m thinking, If we lose Berba, we’r down on proven goals, but up 30mil and got rid of a problem of replacing the 27 yr old Canta-’star’ in a few years time once he has given up all passion of playing for the Spurs, has lost what pace he has at present, and then also we are down on 25-28mil striker replacement money.
JR is building for the future with the likes of bentley (if we get him) Santos, Modric, Hudds, Bolstock and Bale. He knows what he is doing.
I far more worried about losing Keane-o, as he scores the goals, sets em up and is a great leader and character for the team. we can replace berba, we cant replace keane as easily. i can see spurs pushing the 4th-5th if they sort out their defence with an extra 1 or 2 defenders for next season and don’t get hammered with bale and king injuries again.
But whatever the outcome of next season, its guna be great football to watch, really can’t wait!
Phoenixred - July 15th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Unless Spurs reduce Berbatov’s price or he magically drinks some age reducing potion that makes his 23-24, then he is not worth that. I hope Fergie open his eyes and doesn’t let Spurs pull one over on us again. Good Lord, how can United buy a sulky 27 year old for £28-30m??? Thats just crazy, i really think Fergie should get over this obsession with Berbatov and see that he’s not worth more than £20m, a penny above that and he should give Spurs the finger.
Spurstop4 - July 15th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
if you Manures get him you’ll be like pigs in shit - take it from me, HE IS NOT LAZY!!!
Spurstop4 - July 15th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
whoops…. he is so skillful he makes it look so easy. One in a generation can do that, yes he is moody when he thinks others around him dont get what he’s doing and yes Rudolph will have his work cut out if he gets moody but by Christ he’s good.
I’d rather put him in the stands than sell him to you because i cannot think of anyone available or not who is that good to replace him. We should send him overseas if we have to sell him
David - July 15th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
spurs are shit no wonder hes leaving

Berbatov like Cantona is a true class touch player. He has vision, can make time and space in the hectic EPL and scores wonderful goals. We at Tottenham have been privelaged to have him and it sickens me to hear the girly complaints about him going. We never developed him and as ever, bought him from BAYER L. and have had a good return on the field for our money. Like Cantona, Berbatov shows through his body language when he is displeased although he doesn’t take the violent option to resolve things. Tottenham have at times been wonderful in Berbatov’s time with us but often mediocre as well. A star like Berbatov disapproved when we let the standard drop and rightly so. I am a 600 gamer at THFC but it makes me laugh when I hear Keane being compared to Berbatov in terms of his importance to us. Somehow Keane is touted as some talisman who is at the centre of all things good at THFC. This is crap. He is a faker. Not a good example to our younger players who he constantly rucks while waving his arms about complaining. If the scousers want him I will come over from oz and drive him to Anfield myself!
Berbatov deserves to go on to play at the highest level and sadly for THFC this won’t be with us(not for a few years yet). ManUtd fans will truly adore him and alongside the stars they have I bet he will be Football player of the year in 2008/9. Of course he won’t play every game but then no one will at a club with so many commitments.
