How many points behind Manchester United will Liverpool finish? Five? Ten? Twenty?

One of Liverpool’s star players has revealed today that Rafael Benitez is nothing less than a slave-driver, demanding more from every member of the squad as they chase after that elusive Premier League title. However, will his signings and words of motivation be enough to somehow close the gap between the Reds and the Red Devils? They’re getting closer…

The Daily Mirror report that Fernando Torres is enjoying life at Anfield, despite having to work his butt off all the time under his compatriot manager. El Nino reveals that it’s not all pats on the back and joking about at Carrington – far from it.

“After you score 20, Benitez is on at you during the next training session and stays on top of you all day, all week. He tells you to go off on your own and do new exercises.

“There are days when you think, “My God, this guy does not let you breathe’. At times like that you don’t realise that all he wants is for you to improve.

“I want to progress in life, not relax, not be complacent. And you need someone close to you telling you to keep at it. It is impossible to do it otherwise.”

Liverpool finished eleven points behind Manchester United last season, and it was their failure to beat the other members of the ‘Big Four’ home and away which did for them to some extent. Still, it was a massive improvement on the 23 points they trailed United by the season before, and at least Cristiano Ronaldo will be out of action for at least the opening few weeks of the season.

How many points will the Merseyside club finish behind their arch-rivals next season? We’re going for 13, unlucky for Reds fans yet again.
