Manchester United to break transfer record for £30m man by the end of the week!
by Mr Comfort on July 15th, 2008According to these sources Sir Alex is about to set a new Manchester United transfer record by landing this Tottenham star by the end of the week!
Manchester United, whose chief executive, David Gill, has returned from holiday to take care of transfer business, were informed that they need to bid closer to £30m to sign the Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov.
An initial inquiry of £20m is understood to have been rebuffed. And although Spurs said they would not lower their valuation of £30m, a compromise may well be about to be reached of around £28m which would include a number of add-ons. (The Independent)
Spurs are on the hunt for a new striker with Berbatov set to move to United in a £28million deal (Daily Mail)
Manchester United are moving closer to bringing Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov to Old Trafford. While United have distanced themselves from reports claiming the clubs have agreed a £28 million fee for the Bulgarian, the parties are closing in on a deal for Berbatov.
While United are said to be unwilling to pay more than £25m, any potential deal could rival the £29.1m United paid Leeds for their record-signing Rio Ferdinand, in 2002. (Daily Telegraph)
The signs are all pointing to a very imminent deal between the two clubs for the impressive Bulgarian. Obviously there is a fair bit of haggling to do but both parties want the deal ironed out before pre-season friendlies get into full swing. Most reports suggest that the final figure will indeed break United’s previous transfer record and a move of such size will surely make up for the potential loss of traitorous Ronaldo! Are Man United fans confident that Berbatov can live up to such a large fee and will Spurs fans miss their former idol?

hope then blow there money on him so dat spuds can get more overhyped, non performing players… maybe they’ll buy some other loser striker for 16.5mil this time around…. frankly utd should be looking at a cheaper “backup” striker… they have tevez and rooney…don’t think berba will be a regular atleast not till rooney and tevez grow old… but they again he’ll be older…so happy time warming the bench…

Wolf moronic name, moronic thoughts! ….so u think fergie is gonna spend 30mil and put him on the bench! U say spurs buy non preformers but wat is Berba ? Woodgate? Hutton? Modric ? Dos santos ( who scored 2 in pre season friendly and whom arsenal leg Henry said was world class ) .
No doubt we will miss Berba but with that sought of money ramos will firstly secure either bently or joaquin then have 15 mill left on another striker prob Santa cruz or ramos will come from no were again and sign a huge name!! I have trust in ramos and know he will do good , I just hope keano won’t follow berba up north ! How ever it works out berba has been a spurs legend and hope he does as well for utd as he has for the yidos! As 4 wolf dont write on footy websites cause u dont know much!

I don’t think Berbatov will fit in to United’s style of play. He hasn’t really got pace and isn’t such a mobile striker as Rooney or Tevez.
Unless Fergie plays him in the middle and allows Ronaldo and Rooney to “run around him” providing the chances like they did with Ronaldo then I don’t see him adapting to United’s team.
I also think that £30m is normally the price you’d pay for someone the good side of 25, unless you’re Chelsea, so that fact that he is 27 could be held against him.
I also think that on the pitch he seems a tad grumpy, with an attitude thats seemingly like Anelka’s, something I don’t expect Fergie to have overlooked.
Personally, I think this is all paper talk, but if it does happen and I’m proved wrong, I’ll happily admit that.
