Spurs man close to £6m exit: A player with potential who Ramos could still need!
by Mr Comfort on July 15th, 2008Are Spurs about to let this youngster leave for Portsmouth?
Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul is hoping to secure a move to Portsmouth.
Kaboul has fallen out of favour at White Hart Lane and looks set for a summer move away from North London.
The 22-year-old struggled to establish himself at Spurs following his ?7million move from Auxerre last summer and he is believed to be keen on a transfer to get his career back on track.
Kaboul has not linked up with Tottenham at their pre-season training camp in Spain and the player’s agent Rudy Raba says Pompey and Spurs are in talks about a deal for the Frenchman.
“The two clubs are discussing a move and are trying to find an agreement,” Raba told skysports.com.
“Younes wants to go and he would like to join Harry Redknapp.
“He likes him as a manager and he wants to play football on a regular basis.
“We just hope a deal can be agreed between both clubs so Younes can move on.” (Sky Sports)
Tottenham have made some good defensive signings since Juande’s arrival, but they are still short on depth in the centre-back area. Whilst Kaboul looked out of his depth at times, he does have potential and it appears that some fans feel it is worth holding on to the French youngster rather than cashing in on a sale to Portsmouth. With the likes of Rocha, Gardner and Dawson all linked with possible exits, maybe Ramos should try to persuade Younes to stick around and fight for a place in the team?
Obviously the first-choice centre-back pairing of Woody and King would be ahead in the queue but, given the latter’s susceptibility to injury, it would surely be unwise to offload that strength in depth, unless of course JR already has some new targets in this area. Do Spurs fans think that Kaboul has done enough to suggest he has the talent to make it at White Hart Lane?

If he’s good enough to play for the French under 21 he should be good enough for us. There is no doubt he has talent and we’re not exactly flush in the centreback posn

for me defo!! He looks like he has all the right stuff to be a top class player. He was really thrown in at the deep end last season and not surprisingly struggle. i think with a bit of time to settle and some help from the backroom team this guy could be a world beater. woody and ledders i love you both but you do like a stink on the treatment table and i think younes can offer cover what with gthe season being a long and hard one hopefuly.
…….So i like him, would love him to stay, would hate to see him leave and produce the good performances that i know he can and more he gets a goal or two!!
jobby - July 15th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
personally, i think this joker ramos came very over rated!
jobby - July 15th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
i aint an arse fan, but if spurs think they’re gonna get ANYWHERE close to the gooners, U BIN SMOKIN DOPE!
Dan N17 - July 15th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
turn it in job!!!!
Show me your Spurs - July 15th, 2008 at 6:23 pm
I reckon he should stay and think he could greatly improve given time.
stan - July 15th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
jobby you twat ,if you dont support arse who the fuck do you support.ramos is the chosen juan, nobody here has said we will be near the scum this year ,but ramos is building his own team, once that is complete judge him then. until then fuck off .
Bilal - July 15th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
we must keep this boy he is gonna turn out to be another mistake if we sell to “Arry” again just like defoe was. This story in a year and a half could be like David Bentley how do you think Mr Wenger feels now? lets not make the same foolish mistake twice.
norwegian yid - July 15th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
I would love him to stay. He’ll become one of the better centerbacks in a couple of years. but if we are silly enough to sell him to pompey, we should at least try to make Diarra go the other way. 7 mill + kaboul anyone????
Brightonyid - July 15th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
I also think he should stay, he cannot be judged on one season, sure he made mistakes, but he did not dwell on them, i think with a bit of coaching he could turn into a world class player, the comments he made could be sorted with an apology. I hope he reads websites like this and knows he is appreciated.
Buckingham Spur - July 15th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
Without a doubt this player has potential.I honestly believe with the right coaching and given time in the premiership he will be a huge player for whichever club he plays for.He even pops up with the odd goal, remember the equaliser against Villa at the Lane last season?.So the consensus is we really should keep him,or as someone has said, swaphim with Diarra..
Adam - July 15th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
JR knows what he is doing and the kid is a liability. At least 2-3 major mistakes every 90 minutes which you can at afford if you want to be winning any of the 4 titles.
Cash in, get him of the wage bill and hopefully Rocha and Gardner will follow him out the door.
Dawson at best is 4th choice and knowing how injury prone King and Woodgate are it is likely that Dawson will play 30 games next season, which is bad news. He is comitted to the cause but lacks the quality.
At least 1 more experienced centre back is needed.
Do people forget that the teams weakness last year was goals conceded…something like the most for any team that stayed in the division!!!

Brooklyn Hotspur - July 15th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Ramos is a smart man and probably wanted to keep Kaboul as cover and one for the future. It’s simply the players impatience at work.
Younes’ very public outburst directed towards the manager a few months back means he has no future at the club. No doubt his brainless agent advised him this would be the best way to force a move without handing in a transfer request. Do players actually hand in transfer requests these days?
I’d advise anyone to look beyond just the actual sale of players and understand why before trying to knock the club or manager. It was the same with Carrick, Defoe and now Berbatov. If the player wants to leave or their contract is running down (and they are not willing to re-sign) then you have to do what’s best for the club and team.
Dawson has already said he wants to stay with the club and I still believe he’s got a very bright future despite a poor season last year. But then you could put some of that down to a continually changing defense and Robbo causing confusion behind. We just need to find 1-2 more experienced central defenders for cover.
Personally I trust Ramos (his transfers since arriving deserve this alone) to make the right decisions for the team and club.
Relax and enjoy the rest of the summer……..COYS!

everytime on a spurs site, you always get the arsehole fan who keeps coming up with the same boring quotes, youre not good enough for top 4, youre not as good as arsenal etc etc, give it a rest, we were discussing kaboul, nothing to do with arseholes, why are you so scared about us trying to better ourselves , and get in the top 4, oh yes , i know why, your team doesnt like teams challenging your place in the so called elite, we have been sabotaged quite a few times now, carrick, food poisoning, berbatov, and now keane, so look let us just do our best, and you do yours, and well see who comes out on top, i thought sport was all about competition, the hunger to do well, and the immense satisfaction to achieve your goal, not give it to you handed on a plate, and as for barbie, dont sell him to manure, sit him on the bench, or in the reserves, hell change his tune then, and sell him a year later if you have to, youll still get a good price for him, not as much ,but still good, if we dont stand up to these clubs, whats going to happen next time, dos santos , modric, if they both have a great season, you cannot keep selling your best players, to make the top 4 even harder to break into, so tottenham hotspur football club, make a stand now, and stop teams poaching our players, carrick was the warning, heed it. coys
COBRA - July 15th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
kaboul is good, but ramos doesnt rate him, so he goes, in ramos we trust.
spurfect one - July 15th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
i think his best position is probably DM he got thrown straight in the deep end last season at CB it was obvious he was going to struggle with no EPL exp.
Scorpion - July 15th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
He obviously has a an attitude problem. You do not under any circumstances publicly diss the boss. Get rid and let someone else either benefit from his “great potential” or put up with his bad attitude if things do not go his own way. He was benched because he played like shit.
shazzer - July 15th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
i like dhim when he singed but made some bad erros jus like daws an robbo i wud love to keep him id rather him then zokora as out DM AS KABOUL can pass an run with ball with some coaching he cud be a brill dm for us but if he wants to go let him i guess
james - July 15th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
I agree with alot of you, kaboul has talent and can be good but can we really afford the times when his poor and looks completely out of his depth??i do believe in woody and king we are ok, daws is an ideal 3rd choice and lets not forget hudds can play there if needed and then we have the reserves, not a bad lot….i personally rate dervitte.
So to summerise if he goes he goes, if he stays its not the end of the world!
Steve - July 15th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
With Leigh Mills going out on loan for the year maybe Ramos thinks that Dorian Dervitte has done enough to be given a chance in the senior side?
Remember that Zokora used to play centre back and huddlestone can cover there too.
We have 14 first team players for 4 positions!
Out - Chimbonda, Stalteri, Rocha, Gardner, Kaboul, YPL and BAE.
In - Gary Mabbut as defensive coach. (Just a thought)
That still leaves:
RB - Hutton, Gunter
CB - King, Woodgate, Dawson, Dervitte
LB - Bale, Gilberto
shazzer - July 15th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
true james with 7 subs now i hop some youth get a game especially in cc this year an see how they cope such pek rose an devertte etc
TMGSpurs - July 15th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Yes, he should say, certainly ahead of Dawson, Gardner & Rocha unless, as someone says, we can get Diarra in a swap deal. Dawson, like Jenas, is over-rated. I believe that we will not reach top 4 unless we get rid of a lot of the dead wood: Robinson (5m), Dawson (4m), Gardner (1m), Lee (1m), Assou-Ekotto (1m), Chimbonda (5m), Stalteri (0.5m), Rocha (2m), Tainio (2m), Ghaly (2m), Boateng (4m) and Jenas (8m), total 35.5m. It will also be a big season for Pekhart (he deserves his chance this season), I therefore think that we should sell Darren Bent (12m), consolidate the money with whatever we get when Berba (unfortunately goes) and buy two world-class players with the money - a top striker (Huntelaar, 18m, or Villa, 24m, or Eto’o, 20m) and a defensive midfielder (M-Diarra), promote Pekhart to 3rd striker and buy another young prospect as 4th striker (unless Dos Santos will play up front, in which case we need to buy a top LW - Capel 12m or, if he does not move to Marseille, Ben Arfa for a bargain 8m). If Keane goes as well (not less than 18m), he should be replaced by someone like Fred (8m) or Milito (8m) or Villa or Eto’o or Huntelaar.
Ramos has brought in only three players this year (Gomes, Modric and Dos Santos) and they all are or will be world-class players. This is greatly encouraging and contrasts with much of the activity under Jol. Let’s hope he also gets rid of the crap players we’ve amassed, keeping very decent players only (Malbranque, Huddlestone, Zokora (versatile), Gunter, Gilberto, O’Hara, Taarabt) as back-up.
First XI next season should be something as follows: Gomes, Hutton, Bale, King, Woodgate, new DM (either Diarra), Modric, new LW (Capel), Lennon (or Bentley or Joaquin), Berbatov (or Huntelaar / Villa / Eto’o) and Keane (or Huntelaar / Villa / Eto’o / Fred / Milito). That’s a first XI which could comfortably challenge for top 4.
JUANDE RAMOS - July 15th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
TMG spurs offcourse you will comfortably challenge for top 4 with that team , but dont you know all players such as eto , villa, klaas , capel have already publicly discarded and rejected spurs, so why not dream of top half finish rather than top 4 with the current team.
sccotspur - July 15th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
I AGREE KABOUL WAS THROWN IN AT THE DEEP END LAST SEASON AND DESERVES TO STAY AT THE CLUB hes an oustanding prospect
RAMOS SHOULD BE BIG ENOUGH TO HANDLE A BIT OF A SILLY COMMENT BY A YOUNG FRUSTRATED PLAYER
SPURS81,82 - July 15th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
Im a spurs fan and im sorry to say this we aint going to be a Top 4 team.
There are many reasons, the first major one is we don’t have a leader on the pitch with no steel, Ledley is a good leader but not a great one and he is injured to often, we need a Steve Perryman, a Dave Mckay if you look back at the great teams they have had great Captains etc, the second is that we are in change again with players coming and going, we need a settled side that we can work on for a few years, the third we buy to many players in a short space of time and expect them to gel straight away, it doesn’t happen like that, then the players lose confidence due to that factor and then we sell them, Kaboul? (going) Bent? (going) Defoe (Gone) with what happened with the staff change over wouldn’t your head be off the game plus not getting many first team chances? especially if you are new, the atmosphere must have been hell. So our Spurs haven’t had settled team for a long time and if it keeps happening we will never will gate crash the top 4, may be a cup if we are lucky this year!
I had to spoil the party but thats what i have seen in the past 17 years. I must admit i am looking forward to see GIO and Modric, and please Mr Ramos let Berba go he has a very bad attitude let Fergy sort it out lol.
epochery - July 15th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Give him another season, 22 is a baby for a centre back.
Potential never won Fcuk all!! - July 15th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
Blah Blah Blah, potential, schmotential. I’ve hear it all a billion times before. He has been crap for Spurs. CRAP. That’s C-R-A-P!!! Get it? Fcuk potential, if he doesn’t deliver it, potential is useless! I could have potentially been a footballer, but I just didn’t want it enough. He hasn’t delivered his ”potential” because he just doesn’t want it enough. And 22 is NOT a baby for a CB. By that age ALL the best CB’s of the past had what was needed, performed as was needed and started to improve their game as was needed.
JD - July 16th, 2008 at 6:08 am
DID KABOUL NOT SAY A WHILE BACK THAT HIS PREFERRED POSITION WAS MIDFIELD SURLY THIS WAS OBVIOUS WHEN HE WAS SUPPOSE TO BE PLAYING CENTRE BACK HE WAS GOING FORWARD INTO SCORING POSITIONS AND LEAVING US COMPLETELY NAKED AT THE BACK , NOW THE QUESTION IS WILL RAMOS SEE HIM BETTER THAN WE ALLREADY HAVE IN THE MIDFIELD OR INDEED IS`NT HE STILL PURSUING MIDFIELD PLAYERS ! SEEMS TO ME HE HAS CROSSED RAMOS WITH A BIT OF LIP NOW I WOULD PREFER TO KEEP KABOUL IN TIME HE COULD BE A VERY GOOD PLAYER AT WHAT EVER POSITION HE PREFERS BUT AT 22 HE WANTS FOOTBALL NOW ! SO IF HARRY WANTS HIM BADLY ENOUGH AN EXCHANGE FOR DIAARA WOULD BE A GOOD PROSPECT INDEED !!!!!!!!!!!!
Shitcock - July 16th, 2008 at 9:07 am
Kabollox!!!!! Thats all I need to say about that buffoon!
Fernando - July 16th, 2008 at 9:49 am
You know I love spurs fans you guys are so pumped for next season!!!Now that you have all the extra attacking power in midfield you should score some goals next year. Even losing Berba wont matter that much!!
I just think its pretty funny you have not got anyone in defence. Woody is great and if uninjured will be your rock. Bale is good but a little young to be relied on and Kings on his last legs. The reserves are shite.
You might put some in the goals but your gonna be leaky leaky leaky!!! Wonder if the Geordies will put another 7 past you this season?
What do the rest of you think about the defence?
paul - July 16th, 2008 at 10:31 am
He is hopeless. An absolute liability.
jono - July 16th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
Good luck to Pompey fans - we all said the same things ‘if hes good enough for France U-21’s’ etc blah blah blah
truth is, he is more often than not unfit. He also runs around like a headless chicken and spends 90% of the match way out of position. His partnership with Dawson this season has made poor old mike a bag of nerves.
He can certainly bang a goal or two in, however.
good luck to him.
Herts Hammer - July 16th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
See the reason you lot get a bad press amongst other fans is that you still harp on about finishing top four when in reality you are so far away from that, it is a joke. You have serious defensive frailities which are not being addressed, and you can score or create as many goals as you like - but with your back four and that jumpy Brazilian between the posts you are going to struggle getting out of the bottom half again this season. You’ll be calling for Juande’s head by christmas.
jay - July 17th, 2008 at 10:08 am
diarra from pompey and bridge and wright phillips from chelski!!!!
any 1 agree?
Ramosrules - July 17th, 2008 at 10:47 am
NO !
Sean - July 17th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
I agree it would probably be better if he stayed - he was dropped in at the deep end - with a flapping Robbo and a Dawson in desperate need of guidance being expected to be the one doing the guidance, and, alas, the central midfield looking easy to breech.]
But, as has been said, for whatever reason he opened his big mouth, and that, I suspect is the end of him. Senor Ramos doesn’t come across as the type of geezer to be crossed!
