Turkey’s Euro 2008 anchorman keen on Everton move
by stresster on July 15th, 2008David Moyes is closing in on a new deal at Goodison Park, much to the delight of 99.9% of Evertonians, making him pretty much the most popular manager in the Premier League. It has been hinted that this new agreement means that the ‘Moyesiah’ will be given a handsome transfer kitty to ensure that the Toffees stay ahead of the chasing pack, with the Daily Mail reporting a new midfield signing could be imminent.
Mehmet Topal is not a household name in Europe, although Everton tend not to go for big names, they just get big performances from lesser-known players instead. The defensive midfielder could tick all the right boxes for the Merseyside club, including his willingness to join them!
A move for Gilberto Silva came just too late to prevent the Arsenal midfielder joining Panathinaikos, but Moyes may fare better with Topal after the 22-year-old Galatasaray favourite said: ‘I am aware of Everton’s interest, and if the club feel it would be good for them to accept an offer, I would be more than willing to make the move.’
He seems pretty pretty popular at Galatasaray - but will the Turkish club allow him to leave? Everton have been very quiet in the transfer market this summer, but they’re not the only ones holding back and waiting for the big guns to recruit some big names, making other squad members surplus to requirements. Do Everton fans think this is a no-brainer? Or do they have their eyes on someone else instead?
