Manchester United FANS – who is the best signing Sir Alex has made?
by Mr Comfort on July 16th, 2008 42 commentsSince his arrival at Old Trafford more than two decades ago, Sir Alex Ferguson has gone from strength to strength and is now considered a deity by Manchester United fans and with good reason.
Fergie has a damn good record when it comes to successful signings, but the debate for United fans today is who is the best player he has brought to the club? Whilst Djemba Djemba is unlikely to garner many votes, the genius captures of Cantona, Schmeichel and even a certain Cristiano Ronaldo may be contenders!
Enter your selection in the comment box as well as your reasoning and see what your fellow fans think of your choice.
Good Luck!

Over the years he has made some great signings, but I feel the most important ones are the ones who made massive impacts on winning seasons:
To name a few:
Cantona
Evra
Vidic
Ronaldo
Larsson
Teddy Sheringham
Terry TOWELLING - July 16th, 2008 at 4:19 pm

OK, great signings…ronaldo, cantona, vidic, roy keane, sheringham. ( World class and not completely proven at the time)- Ferdinand’s and Rooney’s talents were known to the world and he just had the money, so they wouldn’t be his brain childs. Other clubs wanted them too, he was the rich boy who got them.
THe bad signings.
30 million waste on veron
16 mill for carrick, when liverpool buy alonso for 9
Diego Forlan
40 mill for tevez ( we got torres for 25)
Thing is overall, if ferguson wasn’t a rich crackpot, he would be nothing.
Thank You

The best signing:
The King Eric Cantona, Evra Vidic. Ronaldo, Rooney, Nani and others which are great players
john311 - July 16th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
roy keane cost little and was pure class .solskjaer same .and as for for ronaldo he has done the stuff for well 3 years anyway they should sell him and profit huge on him no point haveing a player who does not want to be there.i would like see benzma and berbatov as for liverpool fan when last time ye won league title ha barely made top 4
Why are some Liverpool fans fools? - July 16th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
Lots of retards here i see, if you have nothing better to say, then don’t say it, i bet your parents didn’t bring you up to be fools. To the brainless Liverpool fan, we’re not buying Tevez for £40m, stop making up numbers, moron.
Do you even know anything about Fergie, check his record at Aberden and tell me if he was a rich crackpot then, he made them out of the little he had. PS: Did you know Liverpool has spent more than United in the last 18yrs and they have no EPL title to show for it, enjoy being in United’s shadow cus history is all you’ll have to look back on.
To answer your question: barring the occasional crappy buys, i’d say in the last decade, Cantona has been the best money spent on any player under Fergie. In the next decade, it might be Anderson, Nani
Roontastic - July 16th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
Schmeichel by a mile… no doubt Cantona was class but without Schmeichel, United probably wouldn’t have won 2 of the 3 treble trophies.

dennis irwin, the great dane, eric

Eric Cantona, without a doubt. He gave the club that certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ that we needed to turn us into champions and give the ‘Fergie Fledglings’ the belief.
Giggsy as a junior from Man City was a good one too, but Eric gets my vote
Jimmy The Weed - July 16th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
LC FAN YWNA – yes but all those bargains haven’t won you any league titles since your first eleven were all in nappies

Irwin, Ince, Pallister, Schmeichel, Cantona, Keane, Solskjaer, Stam, Yorke, van Nistelrooy, Ferdinand, Ronaldo, Rooney, Vidic, Evra, van der Sar, Carrick, Tevez, Anderson… The list could go on and on. Fergie has made some truly fantastic buys, as well as the odd crackpot, like any manager.
Jimmy The Weed - July 16th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
I dont know why i used the cliché ‘je ne sais quoi’ term as clearly i dont understand what it means. It means “I do not know what” as in “I dont know what he have it, but it was good” – i hate english cunts who use french words when they dont understand them! i’m a complete arsehole and i hope i die.
stuart stow - July 16th, 2008 at 5:46 pm
well if youre going on the price too and the impact theyve had its hard id say either cantona or roy keane
RedColor - July 16th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
For YNWA, when you say those all things, why you didn’t mention which team is a better? Or, why you didn’t say who is better, Ferguson or Benitez? Or results of ManUtd vs. Liverpool of past years? Or many many things? Fucking scum, hehehehe.
Roman Shmatov - July 16th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
