Good news Everton fans! With this signing Phil Neville might not have to play defensive mid after all!
by Dexter on July 17th, 2008 Hold on to your hats everyone; this has been a long time coming. All summer there has been an eerie silence around Goodison, but finally is seems as if they have pulled their collective fingers out.
Word is coming in that the lucky man being targeted by Davie Moyes to fill Lee Carsley’s role is Cameroon international Stephane M’Bia.
David Moyes is ready to make giant Cameroon midfielder Stephane M’Bia his first signing of the summer in a £4million deal from French side Rennes.
Everton boss Moyes watched the powerful 22-year-old in action at the end of last season and has turned to him for the ‘enforcer’ role after Lee Carsley left and Gilberto Silva opted to sign a three-year contract with Greeks Panathinaikos.
Gilberto told Everton he did not want to play against Arsenal after such a long spell under Arsene Wenger. (Mirror)
All this will come as a big relief as right now Phil Neville is first choice for the defensive midfield slot, a pant-wettingly scary thought for most Evertonians…

i’m sure neville needs glasses when he’s playing, either that or he’s coloured blind, he passes to everyone but players in royal blue shirts

All a bit unfair to Pip Neville. He had a couple of top displays for Manure in the DM position but has since made right back his own.
His defensive ability cannot be questioned.
He plays to his best wherever he is asked and is a good leader on the pitch.
Dexter, take out your “frustrations” on some other poor soul.

Harvster I agree that Pip is a good leader but he was awful in midfield last season. And as for making the right back position his own, I’m wondering if you actually watch the same games as me?Hibbo is a much better defender than Neville, at least he can tackle!! OK so he can’t cross to save his life but I would still rather have him there than Pip.
Once we get the DM position sorted all our worries will dissappear…… right…..

Phil Neville just isn’t a midfielder for me (and definitely not a left back)! However, he’s had some cracking games at right back. Unfortunately, there are far too many people waiting for him to make a mistake so they can jump on his back. There were games last season when he would be playing well then make a mistake and groups of the crowd are straight on his back. In the same game Arteta would be walking around the pitch having a shocker and nobody would say a thing. It annoys me that the favourites can’t do any wrong and certain solid, honest players always seem to draw the criticsim. For me you’ve got to get behind your players, not at them. Neville’s crossing from right back is quality and his leadership is unquestionable - anyone remember him dragging the rest of the team back when they were celebrating an equaliser in the last few minutes against Reading because a draw wasn’t good enough? That’s a winner and that mentality can only be a positive. I’m the first to have my head in my hands when he lines up in midfield, but he’s a good right back and a great leader. I wish the boo boys would just stay at home, because they don’t help anyone.

I’ll believbe it when I see him (M’bia) holding up the blue shirt on the back page of the Echo !!!
