Is Bobby Z just the beginning of a West Ham clearout?
by Dexter on July 17th, 2008 Bobby Zamora yesterday left West Ham and joined Fulham, and the striker was seemingly unable to prevent himself from having a little poke at his former employers, revealing that the Hammers might be skint!
The Sun reports that upon signing for the Cottagers, Zamora was chattering away like a garrulous gibbon, spilling the beans that he could be the tip of the Icelandic iceberg in terms of players leaving the Boleyn Ground.
The Hammers’ Icelandic owners are being hit hard by the global credit crunch.
Striker Zamora, 27, joined Fulham this week with defender John Pantsil in a £6.3million joint deal.
He said: “Will other players have to leave? Possibly yes. I understand they need the money but how much is anyone’s guess.” (The Sun)
So will Zamora’s exit be just the beginning? West Ham had a thoroughly crapulous time last season with mass cripplings, and this season could be even worse with a potential player exodus!

I don’t get what all the panic is about, both Zamora and Paintsil where nothing more than squad players. Bobby less so but he’s not been a first choice in the first team for a long time.
6.3mil for the pair is a great bit of business for the club and certainly doesn’t indicate that we’re selling off the family silver. Between them they played in about 30 odd games last year and most of them where as subs…
If it was Ashton, Green, Noble, Parker or Bellamy then I might start thinking differently but I think this was just simply a good deal for WH and nothing more cycnical.
It’s a shame to see Bobby go because he always gave his all and is WH through and through but he needs first team football and I don’t think he would have got it at WH next season.

Dexter that was rubbish. Really, you should be ashamed of yourself. Are you training for a job on the Daily Mail?!
Apart from the fact that Zamora is a striker and not financial director, I believe he’s actual quote was:
“I don’t really know the ins and outs of what the club need to do but it is a possibility.
“I understand West Ham need some money but how much is anyone’s guess.”
No go back and read your piece again and realise it is as much a deliberate stretch of the truth as anything else in the “newspaper” whose story you based it on. tut tut.

The fact is we sold a player like zamora rather than someone like carlton cole b/c we knew we would get more money for him as he is worth more. Otherwise I think they may have kept bobby and axed cole. Are west ham suggesting bellars and deano are going 2 get injured?? Going back to our wonderful 4-5-1 formation.
