Spurs chase FANTASTIC £12.5m winger for the future: Who will Juande sell to fund this deal?
by offsidetrap on July 17th, 2008A certain Spanish left winger has made it known that he wants to ‘grow as a footballer,’ and what do you know…Spurs are the name of the club he’s currently being linked with! A Spanish footballer being linked with Juande Ramos at the North London club? Talk about a shocker!
The Telegraph is reporting today that Ramos and Co. have launched an aggressive £12.5m bid to lure Sevilla winger Diego Capel away from his La Liga club to the city of overcast skies and frequent rain. I’m sure he’s dying to get here!
“For sure everybody wants to grow as a footballer, I’m at a great club, but you always have better objectives” he told Diario de Sevilla:
“I know there is interest from Tottenham but the club trust me and I owe them for this confidence.
“Tottenham manager Juande Ramos didn’t speak to me, he did with my agent I presume, yes. My representatives deal with this.
“I think Sevilla’s president has all the right in the world to turn down an offer. Right now I belong to Sevilla, I’m under contract here and that needs to be respected.
“For sure my intention is to keep developing at Sevilla. If they value my work I’ll stay here or if they value me more elsewhere, you never know what can happen.” (Telegraph)
Capel broke into the Sevilla starting XI last season, and could potentially be a great fit at Tottenham in Ramos’ current formation. The big question remaining is, where will the funds for £12.5m bid will come from? With Ramos still chasing transfer targets, it has now left the door open that either Berbatov or Keane will most likely move this summer (shock). From the looks of things, that’s about the only way Spurs would be able to finance this type of deal.
Would Spurs supporters be willing to move Keane or Berbatov to secure Capel? Do you think he could make an instant impact at the club?

It won’t be 12.5, haven’t we already had that bid rejected !!!!!.
Because of the way we took JR from them, they will probably want 25m from us, be nearer to 14m from anyone else.
Didn’t think that we needed to sell 1st???
Adz - July 17th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
What makes you think we need to sell anyone exactly?
12m is pocket money to us- maybe the car stereo thieving scousers and the like need to in order to buy players, but not us.
Besides, “I think Sevilla’s president has all the right in the world to turn down an offer. Right now I belong to Sevilla, I’m under contract here and that needs to be respected.
doesnt sound like a player about to demand a transfer somehow?

Money for old rope reporting, hope we up the ante though a fine prospect!

i would be happy for the club to sell keane or berbs (but not both) to finance that deal plus use the rest of the cash to net AN Other….preferably Diarra….wot a team…Gomes, Hutton, Woody, King, Bale, Lennon, Modric, Diarra, Jenas, Capel n Berbs
Othello - July 17th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
For the umpteenth time, Diarra is not for sale. And the idea that we have to sell in order to buy is frankly stupid and that goes to those who believe that too. Yes, we have to sell because we now have around 40 professionals on our books, but anyone with an ounce of intelligence would know that they have to look at our turnover and see that we are comparatively self-financing. Why do people think that talk of takeovers and such at Spurs are widespread these days?
Plus, Capel may have said he is happy at Sevilla and then retracted, but Sevilla won’t sell to us because of the Ramos affair. So please knock this shit on the head!

Steed and Kaboul will fund most of it. Steed we don’t need if we get Capel and Kaboul is as useless as tits on a bull. If we come up short get rid of Gardner as well. All are subs at best; no offense Steed because you busted your ass, but you aren’t good enough.

Sevilla will bat us off with any bid and quite rightly so,how about coming up with a story that has not been written by an arse holding a crayon.
brad - July 17th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
Berba 28m nd Chimbonda 6m out
Capel 16m and joaquin or bentley 18m
bradley coomes - July 17th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
we could get better then capel
kaka
ManilaYID - July 17th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Well I think its likely we will be in for Capel, because:
1. FACT - Ramos says he is looking for young, exciting talent.
2. FACT - Ramos likes Capel having put him into the Seville side
3. FACT - We still lack cover on the left wing
4. FACT - Ramos likes to play with width, pace and midfielders/wingbacks attacking from deep.
5. RUMOUR - We have already bid for him and I doubt we would give up from after just 1 bid.
Only things against this being very likely is 1. Seville are going to be loathe to do business with us, 2. we can’t exploit the buy-out-clause thus the price might be too high 3. we never seem to actually buy the players we are rumoured to be after
Moneywise reckon we can balance the books by losing the dead men walking:
Robinson - 5m
Chimbonda - 5m
Kaboul - 6m
Young-Pyo - 1.5m
Gardner - 1.5m
Rocha - 1.5m
Stalteri - 500k
Thats 21m to start with, throw in the possibility of Steed going for 5m then thats the cost of our most recent signings almost covered, should also lighten the wage bill considerably.
Drew Vader - July 18th, 2008 at 5:09 am
if anyone pays 6m for Kaboul they should be shot…
Piers - July 18th, 2008 at 11:57 am
OK, just to change the theme a moment. What about Zakora. I have bben incredibly disappointed with him since his hyped up arrival at WHl and personally think he is a very negative defensive player, making 90% of his passes backwards and hardly ever looking to make an attacking run or cutting forward pass. However nobody seems to be talking about whether we should be selling him, why not?? With all the options we have now in midfield, surely we should be looking to offload him as well and I am sure we can make so decent money from him - what do you guys think???
