Spurs FLOP finally set for £4m exit: He won’t be missed!
by Mr Comfort on July 17th, 2008Juande Ramos will have one less piece of dead wood to worry about, as a long list of clubs, including Newcastle United and Everton, strangely seem to want to buy this hit-and-miss full back!
NEWCASTLE and Everton are locked in a £4million tug-of-war for Tottenham’s Pascal Chimbonda.
SunSport can reveal both Toon boss Kevin Keegan and Toffees chief Dave Moyes are keen on the full-back.
And ex-Spurs boss Martin Jol, who has just taken over at Hamburg, is also after the Frenchman.
Chimbonda, 29, who has one cap for France, joined Spurs in a £6million move from Wigan two years ago.
But he fell out with new boss Juande Ramos and famously threw a massive strop when he was substituted during the Carling Cup final against Chelsea. (The Sun)
It seems Pascal has certainly played his last game for the club, and now it’s just a case of who wants the Frenchman the most. Will former boss Jol convince the former Wigan man to move to Germany? David Moyes and Kevin Keegan also seem keen to fork out the cash for a player who far too often last season failed to deliver the goods. At what point did it become clear to Spurs fans that Chimbonda simply wasn’t right for the club?

Good going forward, poor getting back…and when he did, he tended to dive in. Sorry but bye.
tophobunty - July 17th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
bad attitude yes but I feel he played well most of the time and very well other times, seems to me he was better than most of the back 4 most of the season, Dawson was all over the place and Kaboul had a bad start ( actually I think Kaboul could be a VERY good player) top ho
michael - July 17th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
good he can p!55 off
Sean - July 17th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
Not particularly sorry to see him go - the assessments above seem about right (good attacking, at best average defending), and Hutton looks a more complete player - but i would strongly challenge your choice of word in describing him as a flop!
He was so much of a flop that chelsea were rumoured to have bid 9 mill. for him last summer (which was turned down); so much of a flop that he played at left back last year for a manager who was clearly looking to replace him - and did so reasonably.
You can’t lable every player who you don’t like, or who is deemed surplus to requirements, as a flop!
davspurs - July 17th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
I hope he goes to our friend martin and spurs should loan some of our players to mart because he is well liked by is players except back stabbing berby and if we want to get berbatovs agent fuckin mad we should loan him to hamburg there in the chumps league and he speaks german jol can then sit him on his arse we can fuck fergies plans up then ronnie soap star will be on the back pages again and we can sort the the bouncer of phoenix night. club aka peter kaye benitez out over our robbie the cheeky swine is perse is empty and he is ordering everything he thinks cos robbie had a poster out of the shoot mag he can have him and pay if he wins the league thats what villa found out and told him money upfront or fuck off so he has to london the daft pillock thinks spurs dont no hes skint hahhahhahhaaaaaaaaaa.coys

i wouldnt say he was a flop but his attitude stinks! so id be glad to see the back of him
What are you on about? - July 17th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Chelsea have paid alot more than £9m for players that have been out-and-out flops. High profile names such as Veron & Shevchenko spring to mind.
…
If your idea of a right back (whose primary role is to defend) NOT being a flop is that they are good getting forward (but not at defending) and that Chelsea put in a bid of £9, then you need your head examined.
…
And he played at left back last season because…
(1) every other left back and their dog were injured
(2) we had better players at right back than him
…
And if you think he did reasonably last season you are very, very, VERY easy to please.
What are you on about? - July 17th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
* Haha I meant £9m :-p

Chimbonda was not a flop!
In answer to the Op! - July 17th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
It became clear to me that Chimbonda wasn’t right for the club when he handed in a transfer request at Wigan….immediately after their last game of the season. Wht are people (seemingly) so surprised about his attitude? It has always been there for people to see. Doesn’t give a toss about any club he joins and certainly won’t take the blame for things going wrong. If the going gets tough or there is competition for his place he won’t try, he’ll just hand in a transfer.
What are YOU on about? - July 17th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Yes he was!
SligoSpur - July 17th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Between injuries and lack of experience he was our best defender last season…it shows how s81t we were at he back and the lack of depth in defence
THFC6061 - July 17th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Pascal Chimbonda has done a good job for us at Spurs and his ability to play anywhere across the back four makes him a valued squad member.
I would be disappointed to see him leave WHL because I feel we still need his experience and abilities.
parklanedan - July 17th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Chimbonda has proven to be exactly what we all knew when we bought him, an improvement on what we already had whilst also being a mercenary that was drawn by cash and a higher profile. We’ve had two decent seasons from him which have also shown us that long term he wasn’t the right player for the role. We’ve improved again with the signing of Alan Hutton and my only concern now is that we get the most money for him. A flop he was not and prior to the signing of Woodgate & Hutton he was at times our best defender last season.

They all seem to be leaving the sinking ship
robinson,kaboul,chimbonda,berbatov-man u,keane-liverpool.
the only one who want’s to stay is lennon & ramos wanted to include him in the deal to bring bentley to shite hart lane………..hahaha
champion’s league place my arse!!!!!
ramosisgod - July 17th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
THFC6061 100% right, chimbonda is a valuable player, a good player and will be a loss
Clueless fans! - July 17th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
Call me old fashioned, but (primarily) I like my defenders to defend, midfielders to link play and attackers to score. A defender that can’t defend is a shite defender, I don’t care HOW much he gets forward/scores. Ramon Vega often got forward and even scored a couple. Was he good too?
rL - July 17th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
If Bale is back, then NO.

Spurs Dude - July 17th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
Chim was not a flop, his attitude is a bit on the poor side, but he did a job when needed and didn’t let us down any more than any other member of the defence last season.
He thought that he was number one in his position, then Hutton came in and that’s when it went down hill for him. Instead of fighting for his place, he has chosen to sulk and try to leave…..
So, Good Luck Chim, wherever you go, hope it goes well for ya, except when you play us!!!!!!!
Jack - July 17th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
What strikes me is Chimbo’s relationship with Berbs. Pre-match they always warm up together and seem to stick together both wearing faces of thunder. Miserable buggers. My guess is, regardless of their immense talent, Ramos is keen to get shot of them because of the negative vibe they give off to the younger players.
Ramos is shrude and will steady the boat in their absence no doubt. Remember when Keegan (Newcastle) sold Cole to Man td some years ago. Geordie fans went mad but then he bought Les Ferdinand and Shearer to light up St James Park.
Although Spurs may not buy strikers of that world stature, I see Juande doing a Wenger and unearthing some brilliance from somewhere. Remember what he done to our very own Kanoute!!!!!
Nayim - July 17th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
I can understand why sections believe the guy to be a flop but I have to defend his case. We know about his attitude and yeah it’s fair enough to dislike it, but he is a damn good right back and he plays for Spurs. He did leave the center backs exposed a little last year but so did the rest of the team.
Scorpion - July 17th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
Take the money before they realize that the guy is a giant pain in the ass. Hope he goes to the Codes; they deserve each other.

Disgraced u at the final but hey ho, played a whole season out of position and did well.
Bye bye chim.
JD - July 18th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
THE GUY HAS A BAD ATTITUDE HE SEEMS TO ALWAYS BE RIGHT NO MATTER WHAT ! YES HE IS A DECENT RIGHT BACK AND GOOD AT GOING FORWARD BUT WHEN RAMOS BOUGHT HUTTON FOR THE HUGH SUM OF MONEY THAT WAS QUOTED HE MUST HAVE HAD CHIMBONDA`S CARD WELL AND TRULY MARKED TAKE THE 4 / 5 MIL THAT HAS BEEN MENTIONED BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE THIS GUY WILL BE A DISTURBANCE NO MATTER WERE HE GO`S .
Sean - July 18th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
What are you on about?
for you.
1: I can not see any part of my post where I claim Chelsea have never bought a flop. I said they (supposedly) bid 9 million for him one season ago, at a time when the vast majority of Spurs fans were desperate not to see him go, even at that price, and I should know, I was a member of enough message boards, were I actively approved of his sale; this would incline one to the opinion that footballing opinion in general did not consider him to be a flop in his first season. But, as seen as he didn’t sign for Chelsea your point is a mute one, whereas mine, which is that Chelsea were prepared to pay a lot of money for him (with Mourinho still there) suggests that general opinion considered he had a good first season, would seem to be a valid one, and justified as part of a logical argument.
2) That I consider he covered reasonably well last year, does not mean that I think he covered brialliantly. I am not very easy to please. i would prefer to think that I am capable of considering multiple factors when formulating an opinnion. One of these factors was that he was playing in a defence that was leaking goals left, right and centre, until JR came in. In my HUMBLE opinion the centre backs and goalkeeper were most culpable of this - along with a somewhat porous defence. Personally, I preferred it when O’Hara covered left-back - for a whole host of reasons - not least of which was that he is actually left-footed. But this is vastlty different to labelling him a flop - are you jacob’s Ladder incarnate?
3) I cannot see any place in my post where I mentioned Chimbonda’s varying attributes as an attacker and a defender. I can see that I labelled Hutton a ‘more complete player’. I actually formulated this opinion because I consider that Hutton is better than Chimbonda defensively - but thanks for sharing your enlightenment :-/
4) See the bit were I said I wouldn’t be sorry to see him go, well that kinda means that, er, I wouldn’t be sorry to see him go - it is hard to reconcile this clearly formulated statement with the opinion you sem to be crediting me with, which would be that I believe Chimbonda to be great and don’t want him to go. As I matter of fact I stated on in conversation with other knowledgeable fans and on forums that I didn’t want Spurs to sign him when it first happened, due to his attitude. And, as i have said, I, personally stated on many occasions that I would liek him better if he defended better - as I said, Hutton defends better, so i am happy for Hutton to replace Chimbonda. I, too prefer my defenders to defend, something I stated when it was muted that Spurs would buy Bale and all we saw were Bale goals - I am not knocking Bale, merely using this as a picture to illustrate my point, as you seem to need everything spelt out for you - as in ‘I would like to see some footage of Bale defending. Simnple enough for you.
5) It would appear, via a hasty browse through the responses, a large number fo those who responded agree with me, he wasn’t a flop, but we can and ahve done better.
Alas, you appear to one fo those people for whom voicing an opinion comes prior to having a logically sound opinion with the intellectual tools to explicate that opinion coherently

Chimbonda - Yet another perfect example of a top player going to White Hart Lane and being turned into some kind of Sunday pub team player! But remember he played a lot of the season at left back, for a right sided player, that makes life tough, plus he was playing behind another right sided player in Malbranque, not exactly known for his defensive qualities, so PC was exposed time and again.
He’ll end up playing for a real big team in the Premiership and Spurs fans will be wondering if it was the same guy.
Jackman (arsenal fan) - July 18th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
completely crap in every single way and should be playin in the championship, i remember him throwing a strop in the carling cup final after he was subbed, what a baby!!!!!!!!
