Spurs in NEW £10m striker bid: A fair price for a good player!
by Mr Comfort on July 17th, 2008With his two star strikers reportedly targeted by Liverpool and Manchester United Juande is now about to have bid to consider for one of his less important frontmen!
West Ham boss Alan Curbishley is reportedly weighing up a bid for Spurs striker Darren Bent.
Having sold Bobby Zamora to Fulham, Curbishley is ready bolster his forward line by signing Bent who is available for £10 million.
However the move will depend on whether or not Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov move to Liverpool and Manchester United respectively.
Darren Bent enjoyed his best years under Curbishley at Charlton, but is known to be keen to turn his Tottenham fortunes around by enjoying a good season and ridding himself of the £16m flop tag. (St Albans Review)
I guess it’s no surprise that everyone wants a Spurs striker of their own, after all going forward they were pretty irresistible last term, scoring a ton plus goals across all competitions. Bent has long since been considered as a very expensive flop, although he of course has nothing to do with the fee paid for his services and he managed to do okay when given the opportunities last season. Obviously any decision to sell the former Charlton man will greatly depend on the fate of Keane and Berbatov. I would imagine that unless both were sold (and that does seem unlikely) then Bent will still be surplus to requirements and if JR got an offer of £10m then I am sure he would take the cash in a flash! Do Spurs fans think that their club could really lose both halves of their celebrated front pairing?

Leave him alone you dirty spammers. He didn’t want to join you last year and he doesn’t want to now.
Othello - July 17th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
He’s not going anywhere. It’s just more shit perpetrated by the media and the net sites that side with them. Keane and Berba are all going so let’s say their third and final striker is going too in the hope we can REALLY fuck Spurs up for next season!
The mind of the media is a really sick thing….
reno - July 17th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
flop? his goals to minutes ratio was better than berb and keane and was injured for half the year. spurs have only paid 12 mill so far. why does everyone want to sign him if he’s crap? this guy could be the future for us.
davspurs - July 17th, 2008 at 7:15 pm

Scorpion - July 17th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Does capitalizing everything make your point better? It’s bloody annoying. We should keep DBent. I still rate him. Last year was a nightmare for him, but if we are to play with one striker up front who better to put there?
reno - July 17th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
right about everything scorp
archibaldy - July 17th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
I agree with Scorpion, there is too much talk about him being a flop. His movement and pace are good,he just needs to be more clinical with his finishing. If given a chance i think the boy will come good.

Media anti spurs tosh! lets all undermine the spurs camp shall we…….
difficult situation to judge whats right for the future of the club
in transition but
for me….no sale berba! …. no sale bent !….no sale keane!
under contract…….but they are deserving of status of champions league
but as club …with heart its difficult to leave and look at the progress
and new signings
buy capel! or joacqin and maybe some grit for defence to cover king
Naiden - July 17th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
Could work out okay if we were offered £10m + a player we need, but West Ham doesnt have one, so …next!
Pandya - July 17th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Both Berba and Keane will be with us at start, middle and end of next season. You heard it here first.
bobspur - July 17th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
you people may just have a point about the lone ranger mr bent. if we can get bentley and capel alongside huddlestone, modric and maybe dos santos then the ideal mr ramos attack is in place. what with these boys and hutton, woodgate king and bale accross the back all in front of mr octopussy gomez then who needs the berp or keano. no wait a minute keano is tottenham thru and thru so maybe we should put him in instead of dos santos if he dosen’t get lured up to the big red scouse pit.
ManilaYID - July 17th, 2008 at 9:08 pm

RE: Our strike force.
I think Berba is 100% likely to go. United have the money, they need a striker, and they very nearly always get their man, and if they don’t get him its only coz another club does, in the end though one thing is for sure he wont be a Spurs player by the beginning of the season, but that doesn’t mean it wont piss me off something rotten. I hate the idea of losing such a talent, he has taken to the prem. like a charm, and for me I think he can be even better, with the right players around him I reckon he will be on fire, just a shame it wont be with us
Keane is a hard one, before Liverpool came knocking all we heard from him was that he was going nowhere, and the fact his agent hasn’t come out making any noises suggests he’s not exactly pushing for a move, however he is coming into his prime years, and he may feel he has more chance winning something big with Liverpool than he does with Spurs, which if we are honest is probably true. Personnally I think it would be a very poor result for us if we do sell him to Liverpool no matter the money, we can’t keep strenghting the teams above us especially when it weakens us.
Bent is the only striker who, if he was sold, would have the least negative impact on our goal scoring, but ironically is probably now the most likely not to be sold. Still I reckon he can come good and maybe it will benefit both ours and English football if he leads our line in the coming season, what a turn out that could be
Bent for the golden boot.

The only player i can see leaving is berba, a great player on his day but a floppy haired sulk when hes not getting the service, everyone has been talking about ramos` preferred 4-2-3-1 formation & i cant see bent fitting into this he is not a target man so why not get our money back and look at eto`o? Keano could be the spearhead of the midfield linking midfield so i cant see him going (and hes our legend),need a target man to fit into the ramos way if berba goes but it is not about balancing the books, comments regarding Joe Lewis are way wide of the mark he cares bugger all about our transfer policy he is just interested in making a profit from enic, spurs are just a commodity to him. this is shown by the fact that spurs are run as a sole business ad not a sugar daddys play thing!
DejavuTwice - July 17th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Bent wasn’t a flop last term.
He did allright and some players need 1 season to get used to new tactics/formations/systems.
Bergkamp took around 10 games to score his first goal for Arsenal, was in his peak, AND world class. As well as being in free-flowing, top 3 team.
At Charlton Bent enjoyed a lot of space to run into as they played deep. This suits him as he hasn’t the skill to play in-front of defenders and prefers using his speed to outrun 1 or 2 defenders on the turn. Playing fancy football in front of a bunch of defenders isn’t his strength.
He would be VERY usefull as back-up/lone striker as he woulden’t have to track back like either Keane/Berba to challenge opposition and could afford to be on the shoulder of the defender just waiting for that killer ball whilst we have 3 from Lennon/Santos/modric (and hopefully Bentley - who adds ‘crucial’ balance with passing/thru balls) behind him providing direct support.
If it is believed Ramos wants to play 4-2-3-1 he might play to the strengths of the team e.g………………
Gomes
Hutton King Woodgate Bale
Zokora Jenas
Lennon Modric Santos
(Bentley - I Hope)
Bent
(Huntelaar - I wish)

reno : Everyone want’s to sign him??? Unless West Ham is everyone then I guess you’re right. LMAO!!!
DoubleVision - July 18th, 2008 at 2:03 am
Bent would b perfect when were 1-0 up with 15 minutes to go & the opposition are attacking, to grab the 2nd & winning goal on the break. But he’s also proven with 8 goals last season that he can poach goals in a crowded box too. I’d definately keep him!
thekid - July 18th, 2008 at 2:37 am
keane gone berba gone. bent has proved nothing this may be his chance? its his too prove. although does juande have any confidence in him. no secrets that there is a MASSIVE clearout at the lane. its gonna take time to build his team. so lets be patient. shoot for a top six and 2009-2010 will be a realistic chance of seeing the yids back in action. and thats if the shareholders dont get their way and sell the lot….
bill - July 18th, 2008 at 4:47 am
last season was always gonna be tough for bent. to try break into a squad with the likes of keane berbs and defoe (at the start of last year) is almost impossible. I think he is a important player for spurs if keane or berbs get injured he would have to be one of the best third strikers in the league once he gets a consistant chance we will see why he is worth 16 mill. When he got his chances lastyear the team tried to use him like he was berbatov he is a different striker and must learn how to use him for him to be effective. i cant see us sellinghim without giving him a proper go
Dan - July 18th, 2008 at 7:38 am
It’s always the same story with West Ham fans. They spend the entire year playing the ‘our team is better than your team’ game with Spurs fans, then as soon as one of our rejects comes up for sale they are falling over themselves to sign them in ‘this player is absolute quality’ articles like this one.
Kind of tells you what they really feel, doesn’t it?
Spurt - July 18th, 2008 at 7:49 am
Bent needs games to build confidence, also needs manager to say to him he’s staying!!! Nevertheless must not lose Keane, in next two seasons, to allow building.
reno - July 18th, 2008 at 7:53 am
Doublevision,if you’d like to focus for a minute, bent has been linked with west ham, sunderland and everton at the very least. The fact that nearly all these rumours are bollocks shouldn’t worry anyone that reads these posts.
NiceoneCyril - July 18th, 2008 at 8:26 am
I hope Bent is given a chance this year. Like Defoe he sat on the bench and did not get any sort of run in the team. Someone who scores the number of goals he did for Carlton in the year they got relegated cannot suddenly become a bad player. Give him a chance and watch him go.
Bothered - July 18th, 2008 at 10:33 am
To Dan - I’ve not heard of any WH fans ‘falling over themselves’ to sign Bent and certainly not in the thread above???
And lets be honest, in the league our team was better than yours last season, the table never lies.
Bothered - July 18th, 2008 at 10:35 am
And I’d hardly say that Bent is a Spurs reject, he did OK when I saw him play last year and most of the other Spurs fans above also seem to think he’s worth keeping and giving more opportunities next season.
Bothered - July 18th, 2008 at 11:26 am
Just thought i’d chuck this in, but what is everyones thoughts on SWP or bentley? who would you prefer at Tottenham if we had the choice?
george - July 18th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
tottenham are shit and west ham fans would want that tosser about as much as we want that prick curbishley
Lewis A - July 18th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
I agree George, Bring Harry Redknapp back! Imagine how better off we would be if he had never left!! I mean he’s even got Portsmouth into Europe, which is more than can be said for the likes of Curb (pay then £120k a week) and Alan Partridge, i mean Pardew!!
Catcher - July 18th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
George,
you are a bitter and twisted spammer, what do West ham fans know about football, we love Curbs think he is better than you deserve, you bunch of jellied munchers
