Newcastle want West Ham’s Anton Ferdinand, and they’re ready to offer swapsies!
by Dexter on July 18th, 2008 King Kev fancies a defender with class, technique, and that certain “ooomph” not seen at St James’ Park since Philip Albert skated around the pitch with gay abandon, so quite why the Keegster is going for West Ham’s Anton Ferdinand is beyond me…
And if West Ham aren’t tempted by mere moolah, Kev is ready to swap Duff for Ferdinand the Younger:
Kevin Keegan is willing to offer Damien Duff in a bid to land Anton Ferdinand from West Ham.
Keegan is desperate to sign Ferdinand after selling Czech Republic international David Rozehnal, and has a ready-made replacement for Duff in new Argentine signing Jonas Gutierrez.(Daily Mail)
Is this move the hallmark of a genius manager, or crazy talk?

I’m guessing you haven’t seen much of Duff over the past 2 years then?
He’s finished.

Duff was going out the door in any case and the cash was going to be spent on players so the swap is nothing. Ferdinand meets the clubs new criteria as he is young and he is an emerging tallent, whether he will be one of the best tallent or not is yet to be seen.
They are probably trying to make a future pairing, something we have never had, a defensive pairing that has lasted more than 6 month!!!

your report is total rubish with no foundation and a major lack of knowledge of the players you are talking about and just quoting crap from tabliod rags

Duff can leave as far as I’m concerned. I can’t tell you the last time he had a good game for Newcastle. He’s lazy, can’t go past players anymore, seems to have lost a lot of pace. Yet his last game for Ireland he was a different kettle of fish. He obviously doesn’t respect the club who pay his huge wages, you’d think the least he could do was give 100% to the team who have nursed him through serious injuries, but no, that’s asking too much.
As for Ferdinand, West Ham can keep him, I’ll be gutted if he comes to the Toon. Why do West Ham want rid if he’s any good. He’s been living of the name of his brother and now he’s been found out. As for a Taylor and Ferdinand partnership, it’s got disaster written all over it. Taylor only looks comfortable when he’s got an experienced defender next to him, I’d say Ferdinand is probably the same.

How can theoretical transfer tell if a manager is clever or not? I can propose some really lopsided deals, does that mean I’m a shrewd businessman?

To Put it mildly West Ham DONT want to get rid of Jnr! yes, he is exactly the player who needs an experienced talker next to him. Why would Curbishly want Duff? He hasnt been able to play for about 3 years! But then again he did fall for dyer didnt he!

No thanks.
Not another injury prone ex barcode. They must be rubbing their hands at the prospect of getting rid of the wage bill from a player hardly putting the games in.
Besides, Curbs has stated he’s not selling any of the key players.

Damien Duff has had a good pre-season- In the games against Mallorca and Hertha Berlin, Duff was the only player that stood out for a posative reason. Keegan has recently gone on record saying Damien has a future at the club. He’s a good player. Keep him. We don’t need Anton Ferdinand, we got Coloccini and Taylor as CBs - with Cacapa and Bassong as cover.
