Sunderland’s Keane to bid £23million for 4 Spurs players - Is this LUNACY OR GENIUS??
by Dexter on July 18th, 2008 Sunderland boss Roy Keane clearly fancies buying in bulk - he’s sidled up to Tottenham boss Juande Ramos and offered him £23 million for 4 fringe players, Teemu Tainio, Younes Kaboul, Pascal Chimbonda, and Steed Malbranque.
“What rot!!!” I hear you wail, “What sick fantasist came up with this tripe?”
Well, funny that you ask, ‘cos the Independent - not some tripe-filled tabloid peddlar of hearsay and rumour-mongery - came out with this peach of a story…
Sunderland’s transfer market activity surged into life yesterday with a remarkable raid on Tottenham Hotspur that could see Steed Malbranque, Teemu Tainio, Younes Kaboul and Pascal Chimbonda swap White Hart Lane for the Stadium of Light.
A collective fee of £23m has been agreed with Spurs, though the players have yet to speak directly with Sunderland manager Roy Keane and Chimbonda, for one, has also been linked with a move to Everton. (Independent)
It’s a well-known fact that there are plenty of footballers loath to move to the wilds of the North East, so buying in bulk makes a certain amount of sense, they’ll have a nice group of friends to settle in with. But the fact that none of these four will be getting regular first-team football at Spurs next season tells me that 23million quid is a little pricey.

I’m not so sure about Steed leaving because he was one of our better performers last season and kaboul I can see getting better.

I agree Kaboul i can see getting better but 23m thats like 6m each
and also means we might not have to sell keane

Some ya win………. This might not be the best news and I am sure that many will agree Steed will be a loss. However, it gives JR funds, reduces the fat squad and more importantly hides the fact for Camoli that we are selling Kaboul for less than we paid for him against the policy he has gone on record stating. For Sunderland, all of these players will very much strengthen them.

I definitely don’t want Steed to leave and feel he is worth £9m - £10m. I think he was our player of the season last year, even though Keane won it. Tainio is a good squad player at Spurs and would probably get a good deal more games at Sunderland. Chimbonda is not a team player, just thinks of himself. Great going forward, good in the air. Kaboul is a bit of an enigma. Looked good on occasions, particularly when not defending. Caused plenty of problems in the opposition box and planty of problems in our box too. But with the right coaching, I think he could be a quality player and would like to keep him.
But, if all 4 are on their way to Sunderland, the rumoured £23m is probably about right.

Personally I agree with Brad and show me your spurs, Steed was a good performer last season and Youness can get better. However it gets rid of 4 players, collectively I reckon it might ease the wage bill by 100k a week and gets rid of average players. With the money you bring in the likes of Capel and Garcia, note I know these aren’t guarantees. It’s good business in the long run, reduce the wage bill and improve the overall quality

By the way, I should have said, we’ve got plenty of others you can have as well. Rocha, Gardener, Lee, Boateng, Robinson etc.

sounds like he got bored of looking and thought “fuck it” theyll do.

Roy Keane is many things but genius he isnt.
I think the english word to describe him is “prick”
SuperSpurs - July 18th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
I think we should keep Teemu & Steed , Pascal & Kabul can leave if the Price is right….
Jeff - July 18th, 2008 at 6:38 pm

TIME FOR A PARTY! - July 18th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
LOL @ Jeff. Keep smoking the herb and collecting ya dole checks and when you choose to come back into the real world look at the current transfer market.

Good money……prefer to have kept committed Steed though

Who makes up this garbage. A decent journalist would realise the top price you would get for these 4 players is about £12m the amount mentioned in the Telegraph. The Independant says £23m. I am assuming the Sun says £50m

lets keep the fingers crossed on this 1!
although i think theres logic behind the madness, i mean chimbo and malbranque r quality, kabul will learn and taino will be better given a reg spot, so maybe abit pricey…. but maybe the deal of the season
