Spurs to bid for £18m superstar: Can Ramos pull off the signing of the summer!
by Mr Comfort on July 19th, 2008Apparently Juande has failed in his latest attempt to sign David Bentley, however the target reported below is a far better prospect than the Blackburn man and if the Spaniard pulls it off it would surely be the signing of the summer!
Juande Ramos has made it clear that he doesn’t want to see either Robbie Keane or Dimitar Berbatov, but Ramos has said that since they have both declared their intentions lie elsewhere, they could become “negative influences in the dressing room”.
If, as he surmises, “when a player’s head is turned and their commitment is absent”, it makes more sense to sell them and replace them with someone who wants to play.
Zenit are willing to sell, but are looking for double what Barcelona valued the player at, and they are unlikely to come anywhere near it in the future, despite Arshavin begging Zenit to drop the price.
Now it has been reported that Tottenham are willing to put an amount on the table far in excess of Barcelona’s offer, and they won’t sell Berbatov to Man Utd until they have a worthy replacement.
Arshavin is lacking in suitors right now as clubs have rejected Zenit’s demands, and it looks like he will have no choice but to go to Tottenham, or he will have to stay yet another year in Russia.
So, at the moment, Arshavin is very likely to go to White Hart Lane, with Berbatov then heading north to Manchester. (footylatest.com)
It’s clearly going to be a busy period for the north London club, where it appears a great many players are linked with exits. Sunderland apparently want to sign a Quartet of squad fillers and of course Liverpool and Manchester United want a star striker each! So it will at least be better news for Spurs fans to hear of an incoming player being the subject of massive speculation. Arshavin is a top quality player and whilst Blackburn Rovers demand an incredible 17m for their want-away man surely a bid of similar proportions for the Zenit man would be far more worthwhile. Do Tottenham fans believe they could snare the Russian and is he a better investment than the former Arsenal man?

That would take the edge off losing Berbs! Andrei would be a great signing indeed, and Barca have bought loads of players already so don’t think they will sign him. Come on Levy make it happen!
Shannon - July 19th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
Wow, I never knew bollocks could be piled this high. What crack journlism.
Ferdy - July 19th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
Arshavin would be a good fit for Spurs, and if no one else puts in a worthy bid then who knows maybe we could get him, Still hope we keep Berbs and Keano!

Barca’s loss could be our gain. Andrei has put himself in a corner of sorts, he has said he wants to leave but his dream move simply will not happen, Barca have already spend loads of cash this summer and surely can’t afford yet another big signing, hence Ramos could sneak in and get his man
James - July 19th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
To Shannon, are you complaining about the footylatest source or this piece talking of it? Anyway Arshavin would be an incredible coup, i hope it could happen, but it might be a bridge too far for us
Rackny - July 19th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Arshavin played well in two of his three games in the Euro’s. Whilst he was almost genius the qtr final win against Holland he went totally missing in the semi final against Spain. He has only played in Russia and although he has scored in Europe and International level I am not convinced paying £18million would be classed as a good bit of business especially if you are talking about him replacing one of our two premier league experienced strikers.
He could prove to be a massive hit so therefore could be the signing of the summer. On the other hand though he could also turn out to be a similar signing to our previous Balkan State striker. Anyone remember Rebrov?????
Maybe worth the gamble but not at £18mill
Rackny - July 19th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
If we sell Berba and Keane that should generate £45million.
Use it on Huntelaar and Roque Sanra Cruz.
Now they are good replacements
Shannon - July 19th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
James, exactly. It’s poorly written and disjointed, “it has been reported” that it is unsourced, ignores entirely what has been written on the subject before and is breathtakingly stupid in saying: “So at the moment it is very likely that Arshavin is going to White Hart Lane.” Hell, it doesn’t even mention the player’s first name anywhere.

TMGspurs - July 19th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
Who gives a shot about 1st bame? Haven’t u understood who he refers to?
Anyway: I agree with above blogger that Arshavin is not proven and he’s a risk. He would replace Keane rather than Berba and I think that he’s a much better player than Keane (who was made to look good by Berba and is not worth 18m). We should sell Keane and bring Asrhavin in. We shld tell Fergie to eff off and tell Berba hour stays; if we really cannot do that, we shld offer a straight swap for Eto’o (and maye get Yaya Toure and pay Barca 10m on top) or sell Berba and buy one of David Villa or Huntelaar.

Can’t help but agree with your comments, if Berbs and Keane want to go then let them, they have been immense for the club in their time and deserve to play Champions League which is something that Spurs can’t offer and might not be able to offer in the forseeable future (lets hope i am wrong) I agree wholeheartedly in your choice of strikers to replace them, Santa Cruz and Huntelar both look like they can score for fun and it would be interesting to see how they combined together.
Tim - July 19th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
whatever happens after this saga spurs should never sell Berba to the Manc even if we get les money after Fergies arogance
bobspur - July 19th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
LOOK YOU LOT ALL SPURS NEED IS BENTLEY, CAPEL, AND SANTA CRUZ AND WE WILL DEFINATELY NEVER MISS BERP AND KOONO, IF WE CAN USE THE CASH FOR THE DEFECTORS WISELY THEN THE FORMATION WILL PAY AMPLE DIVIDENDS IN THE GOAL SCORING STAKES WITH CAP AND BEN PUTTING SUPERB BALLS INTO SANTA WHO WILL REGULARLY FILL THE SACK. ALSO THE OTHER NEW BOYS ARE MORE THAN CAPABLE OF BOTH CREATING AND SCORING.
pushharder - July 19th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
Why all the fuss now about this guy, never even heard of him before the Euros.I doubt our scouts had even been to watch him prior to this,18 million is hell of alot of dough, best spent on santa cruz and capel.
bobspur - July 19th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
WELL SAID PUSHHARDER, LETS HOPE THE WORD SPREADS AND OUR MANAGER PUSHES HARDER FOR WHAT WOULD BE A GREAT PAIR OF SIGNINGS IN CAPEL AND SANTA CRUZ. THE CREATIVE POTENTIAL WOULD DOUBLE OVERNIGHT IF WE COULD LAND THESE TWO GEMS.
Will - July 19th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
I agree, Hunterlar would be my choice, and i think we should go for Miguel Veloso as i still think we need a defensive midfielder, and yeah maybe santa cruz. But what about Bentley? should we continue to pursue him, or maybe turn our attentions to SWP? as wehen he was at Man c, he was sh*t hot, and maybe at whl he would get back to the way he was before joining Chelski?
Shannon - July 19th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
Sorry TMG, it’s just that ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about this report makes me inclined to take it seriously, let alone actually believe it. yes Arshavin looked like a great player. If he’s coming to Spurs, I might start to believe it when I see a report that’s a little more professional. You can’t believe what just anyone tells you.
mark4spurs - July 19th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Great player but in this day and age i couldnt trust him if he did sign for us will probably use us as a stepping stone, unless we broke into the champions league places ourselves.

Nihat and Santa Cruz to replace i hope.
Clever, skillful, creative, demonic finisher Nihat behind technichal, clinical Santa Cruz would be a perfect pairing
SuperSpurs - July 19th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
if keane & berba leaves ……..perfect replacement ‘ll be santa cruz & arshavin & diego capel…………..
SuperSpurs - July 19th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
we should sell berba to barca for £££££££ & a center back or defensive midfielder…. but surely not to manure….
TMGSpurs - July 19th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Shannon: there’ve been lots of reports linking us with Arshavin. Please also note that these reports started BEFORE Euro 08 - ppl tend to dismiss the reports as arising just because of the two superb performances of Arshavin at the Euros but we seem to have been interested since before then. OK, maybe the article is not the best written one but this is the style of Caughtoffside - they report transfer gosspi from other sites, they add a few comments and they leave it to us bloggers to have our input (as uninformed at them!).
Luke - July 19th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Why doesnt anyone ever make an original suggestion i.e were linked to Capel, Bentley, Santa Cruz, etc then it’s “all we need is get the Bentely, Capel etc,” then we will challenge top 4. Last week it was Milito, Arshavin, Huntelaar. Next week it will be blah blah blah.
I didn’t read anyone mention these players BEFORE htey were linke din the crap tabloid press.
I bet hardly any of you have seen any of these players actually play once, let alone a whoile match in which you studied them for a view to a future purchase.
And Youtube clips can make Rasiak look good. Get somer original ideas you chumps. Santa Cruz is a one hit wonder and not going to improve the team, are most of your suggestions.
And please, what is it with peoples endless line ups, ffs.
Spurs Dude - July 19th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Can’t believe that so many people are saying “IF Keane and Berbs go” or “I still hope they will stay”…….Neither of the money grabbing ars*holes want to stay and ARE GONE already…….
Agree with the comments about Arshavin not being heard of before Euro 2008. What makes him so special on the basis of 2 good games in that tournament?????.
Would prefer Santa Cruz, but after all the mess with Bentley and Ince saying that he wants to keep both the afore mentioned players, can’t see it happening.
Let’s just hope that Darren Bent can step up to the bar and be a 20 plus goals a season guy, it is really f*cking annoying that we sold DEFOE who wanted to play for us, never mind, life will go on and I’m sure we’ll still be there or there abouts next season.
Let’s not forget that only a few seasons ago, we weren’t even qualifying for Europe. We’ve now started to become a regular UEFA cup team.
Surely we can’t expect Champs League in only 2-3 years of improvement.
Have taken a huge step backwards now though!!!!!!
LFC - July 19th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
I think you should sign him so we can have a good look at him ,if hes any good we will just take him to anfield.
ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT
yiddownunder - July 19th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
capel would be a good signing, and why we are there bring back konute.
citi - July 19th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
So deluded LFC thinks he’s so clever and funny. Now funny is when Hicks and Gillettee go belly up. Of course LFC has his head up his oown rectum and thinks DIC will come galloping to the rescue. Have a look at what’s happened recently. The locals are p.ssed off with western influences and the ruling family will be under pressure to avoid western investment. Thy are worried about terrorism to frighten away foreigner and the tourist and property market collapsing. that’s the real world awaiting LFC. Within the next year they won’t have a pot to p in. It’s all going to end in tears. Now most of the rest of football will find that funny poor deluded LFC>
gooner mooner - July 19th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
how can a tottenham fan call any team deluded?! are you thick or something!? your lot are the most deluded of all, worse than the flippin barcodes. “we will do it next yr”…(roll eyes) Liverpool and every other top 4 team are way ahead of you scumbags! They have actually won trophies that mean something.
And LFC has a point, you ARE a feedeer club for the top 4! there is no point denying, just look at the berba and keane situation. Embarrassing.
Since when was david Bentley for 18mill a signing of the season!? what an embarrassment.
As for Arshavin, aren’t you feeling a little stupid hoping to get a player who is practically begging to join us? you little spurs fans are hilarious
Yiddooooooooo - July 20th, 2008 at 1:36 am
Berbatov can take a running jump off a cliff or if he fancies popping out infront of the no21 salford quays circular then i wont be running to save the unloyal tw*t! i had a framed picture of myself with him on the pitch at the lane, hung up in my office but needless to say that has now gone… his attitude is awfull!! and if alex ferguson passes me in the street i will give him a bloody nose 2 match the alcoholic red cheeks that the wanker of a jock has… the little scottish alcoholic arrogant wanker deserves a famous grouse! F**Kin Pri*K!!!!! Mr Levy has impressed throughly and i am proud to have a yiddo like him at the front of the club! Robbie has been a massive dissapointment as well but has been a great asset to the club and his tears at wembley were as real as you can get!

LOOK GUYS FOR SURE RAMOS AND POYET ARE NOT STUPID THEY HAVE SEEN THE CHANGE IN BERBATOV AND KEANE`S ATTITUDE BOTH IN TRAINING AND IN THE CHANGING ROOM AND TO A FIRM DEGREE PROBLY IN SPEAKING TERMS WITH THE REST OF THE MERE MORTAL`S , THEY SURLY ARE CAUSING A DISRUPTIVNESS ALL AROUNG OUR BUILD UP TO THE START OF A NEW SEASON SO THE SOONER THEY ARE GONE ” IE TO-DAY ” THE BETTER FOR SPURS , THE PLAYERS I WOULD LOVE AT THE LANE WERE POSSIABLE ARE HUNTELAAR , SCHWEINSTEIGER , ARDSHAVIN , NISTLEROOY FOR A FEW SEASONS HE HAS LEFT JUST TO BE AN EXAMPLE TO HUNTELAAR AND A SETTLING IN PARTNER , FORGET BENTLEY , KEEP BENT , PROMOTE PERKART , KEEP KABOUL , AND TRY AND GET THAT COLOSSAL OF A CENTRE HALF HUTH OR SOMETHING FROM MIDDLESBORO WHO PLAYED WITH WOODGATE AND WHO USE TO PLAY FOR CHELSEA .

I totally disagree with TMGspurs…who said Keane played well cos of Berbi and that is absolutely rubbish…Keane is world class and he is very didicated and commited and also a team player unlike Berbi who is selfish…it should be the other way round(Keane made Berbi look good) if Arshavin do come to spurs then Berbi should go not keane…cos spurs need keane more than Berbi…I do hope most spurs fans will agree with me…
topspur - July 20th, 2008 at 8:20 am
Arshavin to spurs , dont think thats likely esp at 18 million for a player with great ability but untested and top league level week in week out.like some others have said worth the gamble if he was cheaper……..
topspur - July 20th, 2008 at 8:36 am
Like many i am dissapointed with berba and keane askin to leave and sure a neg influence in the dressing room isnt good , but we have to ask ourselves where is the club heading !! i think under ramos in the right direction but selling the best strike partnership in the prem b4 start of the season is mad.To replace them now even if we manage to bring in top quality strikers which again is pushin it , by the time the new frontmen gel with the rest of the team have no doubt that are start to the season will be stop start in attack i feel…We have bought top quality players so far and that must continue to have any chance of top four.If we sell berba and keane kiss top 4 goodbye for another season.I was hoping our days of selling our best players was behind us but maybe not !!
Kes - July 20th, 2008 at 9:34 am
Can’t understand some fans still wanting Berbatov and Keane to stay when it’s very clear that they want to leave our beloved THFC. If a player, any player, feels that THFC is not worthy of their skills/ability then get rid of them - asap! We have had the likes of Sir Les, Steve Archibald, J Klinnsman, David Ginola, M Chivers, one G Greaves and countless other very good/great players. We still keep moving forward after they’ve gone and always will. The club is in good hands with a very good managment team so good players will always be coming through our doors. So, true Yids don’t fret about the imminent departure of Berbs and Keano, they’ve done well for us so good luck to them but THFC is bigger that any player……. forever Yid.
Kes - July 20th, 2008 at 9:38 am

ramosisgod - July 20th, 2008 at 9:48 am
Just been reading an article that has quotes from Pehart, by the sound of things, Keane and Berbatov are a long way from leaving the club, I would not be suprised to see them both playing for spurs when the season starts, let’s not give them too much stick as I blame the media for all of this, when the top four now look at our strike partnership and our squad they want to do everything to disrupt us, even if this means puting keane and berbs on there own bench, 2 years ago jose marinho said spurs would be a clear and present danger in a few seasons, he was right, now the top four managers are doing everything in their power to stop this, Levy refused 28m from man u and 32m from man city for berbs, what makes you think he will except any offers now, liverpool can’nt afford keane and keane dos’nt really want to plat for liverpool, it’s all media hype designed to de-rail a clear and present danger force called the might tottenham hotspurs!

Gooner Mooner: What do you lot know about winning trophies? For all your supposed superiority you have won nothing for the last 3 years. Bitter, bitter Gooners. As for Arshevin, you can’t afford him even after losing 2 (and counting) of your starters. You sound like most Gooners these days. Like you’re on the Titanic and it is sinking fast.
When you finally finish paying off that lifeless piece of crap that you built you might be able to afford some new players to get you back into the premiership. Enjoy the ride DOWNHILL.
Yidboy - July 20th, 2008 at 10:32 am
I am not so sure he would make it in the premiership, No offence intended to the Russian league but is it really anywhere near the premiership?. His last game in Euro 2008 was not good to say the least.
Just my thoughts.

What are you all talking about? We were linked to Arshavin for 9mil in January. Since then I have taken note and watched him closely. He is an absolute World Class gem. He helped Zenit win the UEFA Cup and this as well as his form in Internationals has helped bump his price up. He is definately no 1 hit wonder and if you think he only came to prominence in Euro 08 than none of you know your football.
COYS!

“Poor Spuds”. First of all go back to school and learn to spell. I pity bitter Gooners like you because you have nothing better to do than go on Spurs sites and brag about how good you are. I can assure you I have NEVER been on a Gooner site. Why would I? I don’t need to big myself up by making anal comments like you have. As for getting “class” players to come to our team, I offer Gomes, Hutton, Woodgate, Modric, Dos Santos as proof that you are full of hot air. Or shit if your vocabulary does not allow you to understand what I am saying.
It never ceases to amaze me how unintelligent Gooners are. You come on here and misspell everything, use foul language, say stupid inaccurate things and are generally completely stupid.
Spend more time elsewhere because your lack of class is embarrassing.

Wojd, so true. Don’t belive anything untill it comes up on the spurs offical homepage. But i do hope we get Diego Capel instead of David Bentley, would be cheaper and a better sign, he is younger, and none of the teams in england will understand how he will play in the first season, so they might have trouble marking him.
Cyprus-Toon - July 21st, 2008 at 9:29 am
Arshavin is a good, classy player but he remind me of a certain player that was the Top European Footballer until he came to the Premiership & then he was unable to score any goals, his name was Kesman!!!Shevechencko was another Top European Goal Scorer until he came to the EPL & look at him now
Ok, we do get some good players too, Torres, Berb, Drogba etc but theres something about how Arshavin plays that reminds me of Kesman!!!
