Arsenal in £15million striker bid: Could this really happen?
by Mr Comfort on July 20th, 2008 16 commentsArsene has spoken of his desire to bring in at least one more signing before the new season, perhaps even two, but now it appears another of his stars has been linked with an Emirates departure!
JUVENTUS are ready to pile the pressure on Arsene Wenger with a £15million move for Robin van Persie.
But Arsenal will issue a hands-off warning after already losing Mathieu Flamini to AC Milan and Alex Hleb to Barcelona, who also want hitman Emmanuel Adebayor.
Juve see Dutch forward Van Persie as the perfect replacement for the talismanic Pavel Nedved.
The Czech star, 35, has signed a one-year contract extension in Turin but is expected to call it a day next June.
Van Persie, 24, arrived at Arsenal in 2004 for £3m from Feyenoord and was touted as the new Dennis Bergkamp.
His career has been blighted by injury but he has so far scored 28 goals in 87 appearances and scored twice for Holland during Euro 2008.
Van Persie is contracted to the Gunners until 2011 but, worryingly for Wenger, he has recently criticised the club’s pay structure.
He also suggested Arsenal suffer when their offers are compared to Premier League and continental rivals.
He said: “They won’t pay enormous amounts of money. They should go to a higher level of salary.”
Juve would prefer to do business now but are prepared to wait until Nedved packs in if necessary. (News of the World)
RVP has voiced his concerns about the wage structure at the club, as have the likes of Hleb and Adebayor, so it’s not a surprise that the Dutchman has been linked with a move away from the club. Wenger is right to stand his ground on this issue, and it seems pretty straightforward that if a player makes it so clear that he merely chasing a mega bucks deals, then Arsene will not think twice about offloading a player. However, Van Persie seems like a loyal player who has voiced his concerns about the pay structure, but I have faith in the forward and believe he will stay at the club that helped make him the star that he is. Do Gunners fans think that Robin may leave the club?

What is happening to Arsenal? Why are people showing such little loyalty? If RVP uses this to try to beef up his wages he can go as well!

He is on the verge of signing a new long term deal.Juventus are trying to sign two players from Arsenal they know they wont get the other being Fran Merida. This is just hot air from the Turin club because the fans are not happy with the clubs signings.

what a rubbish story, come on man Juventas. leave arsenal for Juventas. first of all Juventas and the Italian league are way behind the premier league in terms of wealth and star attraction. The only players going to Italy are those that are looking to resurrect their careers and get a little bit of recognition back. Please don’t make me die of laughter from such rubbish stories. “15 Million pounds, Ha!” If Barry is worth 18 Million then Boy wonder is worth £50 Mill at least.

we need to buy at least one decent big name signing. finally hleb has gone! how anyone thinks he is good is beyond me. a good player who plays on the flanks should be capable of scoring and assisting. he struggled to do both!
Smith Alan - July 21st, 2008 at 9:09 am
And your right too..
And to the record,we have Eboue at right flank! he is the Mug of maximum who cant do anything at all..I repeat not a FK At all!
Thats how our season fk up the last 3 years!
If arsene are to insist such bolox player perhaps its time to thank the professor and we needs to move on without him!

tell juve to give us giovinco+ cash for van persie… else they might as well piss off!!!

Van Persie can go and so should Adebayor if he insists. As a matter of fact, Arsenal lost the title last season because Adebayor simply could not score when he had the opportunity. Out of ten good chances, he scored only one.
The worrying thing is we have lost the strength of the midfield; Flammini and Hleb together with Fabrigas and Rosicky were the engine of the team.
With the two gone, Arsene will have to get atleast four mature players (two strikers and two midfielders)if Arsenal are to compete next season..
