Manchester United want SUPER £31m striker: Could be a better buy than Berbatov!
by Mr Comfort on July 20th, 2008It seems that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson are about to fall out over the whole on/off saga to sign Dimitar Berbatov, so now it appears that the Old Trafford club may be looking elsewhere at another hugely exciting signing!
Robinho’s agent Wagner Ribeiro claims: “It’s only logical that a club like Barcelona want Robinho. He is also wanted by Chelsea and Manchester United…” (football365.com)
Wagner Ribeiro admits it would be difficult to secure a move to Stamford Bridge or Barcelona, whom he also claims are interested in his client, despite the Catalan club’s strenuous denial of any contact.
Speculation has been rife that the Real Madrid forward is on his way to the Premier League, with Manchester United and Chelsea favourites for his signature. (ESPN)
Chelsea’s move for the Brazilian appears to have come to nothing but reports are suggesting that Robinho will still more than likely be leaving the Bernabeu for pastures new. Given the palaver surrounding the planned signing of the Bulgarian ace the Man United boss may opt to give up on the Spurs man and put his efforts into landing the Real man. Of course the huge sticking point could be relations between the two clubs following the Spanish champions attempts to unsettle Cristiano Ronaldo but who knows where the Portuguese man’s future lies, could he really return to the Premier League champions? Would United fans rather let Ronaldo leave than see him line up for a club he has treated so badly? Does the idea of signing the Brazilian flair player excite the fans?

I think we should forget about Berbatov, too much trouble, Robinho would be good though. But why not Eto’o?
aza - July 20th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
Forget Berbatov and robinhio why dont we sign david villa for 25m instead of berba for 25m or as norm says go after eto barcelona are ready to sell him cheap because the lack of interest
Drew Vader - July 20th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
Is the title really calling Robinho a striker? Huh?? Am i missing something….
Aguero would be nice, as he actually plays as a striker…
zeddy - July 20th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
Like for like, Robinho would be great apart for the goal scoring feat though…then again, will Ronaldo himself score another 42 goals next season???..I doubt it.Oh yes he’ll score goals all right, but 42?Come on Reds, Ronaldo is NOT bigger than Man.Utd.
Ngozi Daniel - July 20th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
PLAIN AND SIMPLE. The following are the rules to obey.
1. FORGET BERBATOV
2. GO AFTER ETO’O INSTEAD, because Barca is willing to deal. Given the choice I’d go for Eto’o any day of the week. I really thought this would be a no brainer.
3. KEEP, not sell, KEEP CR7. I’m not gonna go over all the reasons, but just think rationally, not emotionally about it.
Nuff said.

Robinho and Eto are too small and would both get pushed around in the Prem. Berbatov on the other hand has shown he can thrive in the Prem.
Jdash - July 20th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
We need a striker, and berbatov would be perfect, even though santa cruz would have been cheaper, but the crazy Ince a go on chupid. Anyway, eto can survive in the premierhip, he tottally fit our attacking game, but i’m worried that he’ll really stay up as a striker and not become another rooney or tevez like player. Berbatov as i said would be great but i’m also wirred that he might slow up our game. Robinho is quick and looks like a manu player, but he hasn’t been in form in terms of his goal output, but maybe thats because he is on the stupid Real Madrid, if he comes that would be awesome but he is too short and i want a taller striker, someone stonger that can head the ball. Huntelaar fits the bill and he is young, so go for him, but as its been said berbatov has the prem experience.
pdm - July 20th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
eto eto eto eto eto look how much barca sold deco for… eto is the world premier striker anyway.
Unwired. - July 20th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
who on earth thinks eto’o is too small?
John Tring - July 21st, 2008 at 7:38 am
Yes, alternatives to Dimi are there: E’too, Huntelaar, Benzema etc., but it’s clear a top striker is a must for Utd,regardless of CR staying or going. Highly unlikely CR will score that many even he’s around..
roc - July 21st, 2008 at 7:46 am
what happened to kerlon,he should be a good replacement for ronaldo and get eto cheap from barcelona pliz!!!!!
Richardtheframeman - July 21st, 2008 at 9:30 am
At least eto’s for sale, so you won’t have to tap him up. This could be a first. Manure sign player correctly for once.
YSB - July 21st, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Rich, your idiot chairman got wound up by an article in the sun. Fergie didn’t even mention Spuds or Berbatov.
Richardtheframeman - July 21st, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Ysb do you know all the facts. Whats in the dossier thats gone to the premier league today (a copy of the sun maybe) Or maybe there’s some real evidence. Why don’t you fuck off back to your one bedroom flat in plymouth and have a wank over fergie you prick

Lets be honest guys alex fergusen is an idiot when it comes to signing players! he missed on on ronaldo, the best striker in last decade, then ronaldinho, the best forward since maradona, becuase he didnt want 2 cough up £23million but yet had £30million at the ready for rooney. he spent 30 milloin on veron. this shows alex is a fool so when people say why not eto, well the answer his look at his history. even C.ronaldo was all Carlos Quiroz doing.
thats why im not surprised we go for over rated older players such as berbatov when there are the likes of eto and benzema out there. Why o Why did he also not get Marcus Senna for a measly £10million, but yet spend nealry 30million on hargreaves and carrick. im sorry senna is much better then those 2.
as a man u fan i have grown so frustrated with alex and hope he does retire soon. while we would drop down the table a, no doubt, at least new manager can come in who possibly can see £23 million on ronaldinho as a far better investment than £30million on rooney. come on alex u are having a laugh. dont get me wrong im glad we bought rooney but at what expence.
wow lol ive rambled its all this built up frustration on our transfer policy
Dave - July 22nd, 2008 at 9:47 am
I think Eto is the most complete striker to sign at the moment. He’s got the pace. Deadly both in and out of the box, good header and would really fit our style of play. I also think he is the most realistic player to get at the moment. There is too much fuss surrounding Berba and others. So lets go for it now
Paul - July 22nd, 2008 at 1:23 pm
I love it, Fergie is an idiot etc etc, yeah I wish I was the idiot who just did the domestic and Euro double in style and is there at the top of the game year after year. Im surprised some of you fools can type the words. As for Berba/Eto or any of the others they would all be good additions because they will work with King Fergie. Ill be off to my flat in,,Plymouth apparently. What a bunch of sad, fat, lonely loosers some people are. UNITED.
Ash - July 22nd, 2008 at 2:11 pm
hey paul i called fergie an idiot in transfer market not as a manager! he does well with what hes got but what im quetioning is the players he brings in most of the time! and if u r talking abou tthe double we jsut did that all due to ronaldo and who bought ronaldo in Quiroz u will c this season what man u does without him the same we have done since the last time we had a decent no2 mclaren. nothing! domestically fergie is the king but when it comes to EU fergie has no idea. he has been in champions league for 15yers in a row and won it 2 and reached. let look at milan or even liverpool under benitez. In last 5yrs they have won it and consistently reached semis that in 5years when last time we were in semi without ronaldo? that shows fergie is shit in Europe. that is why great players want to leave manu for eu giants such as real, milan. barcelona. take beckham, van nistlrooy, ronaldo.
Paul - July 22nd, 2008 at 2:27 pm
Ash, each to their own but I dont agree at all. You are right, United have been in the Champions league for the last 15 years, and in many of those years pushed and not quite made it, only one team wins. As for the other “giant” clubs I think that used to be the case but with the growth of our league I would say the prem is the best league in the world and us the best team in it. As for Carlos bringing in Ronaldo I can promise you Fergie knew all about him as I have heard the story of his signing a million times over, even better how Liverpool refused him at half the money. As for the other clubs getting into the semis and the final, yeah but at what cost? When united won it they also win the league as they have done most years, and people said Ruud was the reason we won and when he went,,, and same Beckham, and how boring the same crap is out again for Ron. I said on day one sell him, get 70mill, he will be the most marked and kicked player next year, and he is turning into a circus act. People want United to die, we never will.
Ash - July 23rd, 2008 at 1:29 pm
i agree with u as a manu fan we will never die. and u right ronaldo should go if he does not want to stay and for 75miliion why not. however if we let him go what of man u look at real madrid once the galacticos left they became boring and crap. although they won la league couple of times it was very lucky. now look at barcelona where are they without star man ronaldinho (although they have messi). we need world class players to stay at manu or even better bring potential ones in. but with sir alex i very much doubt this will happen he has poor eye for a player 24million for berbatov makes me sick for a 28yr old. like many of the other fans have written what about eto? prime example of a class player but where are man u in regards to signing him nowhere becuase we want berbatov. please explain this rational to me i can only piont to sir alex for this and many others in the past!
Paul - July 23rd, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Ash, its interesting though that noone is going for Eto, if everyone on all the web sites are right, why have non of the managers out there rushed to beat the field. I think its because Eto, like Ronaldinho and sadly like our Ronaldo have begun to believe their own hype and are difficult to manage/ act like playboys. I also think Ronaldo tells fergie one thing and means another. As for the cost of players, yes your right but that is the crazy way business is done in football now. I think Fergie is better at spotting a player then you think I also think he has a good circle of advisors, unlike the players mentioned. Ronaldo does not make the team and I think Rooney would flourish, Nani if he passed the ball, Anderson (if he starts to score goals) will fill the void. Keep the faith cause one thing is certain, the biggest risk we as a club face is when Fergie retires, not Ronaldo leaving.
Ash - July 24th, 2008 at 12:24 am
of course dont get me wrong man u will be in big trouble if fergie leaves. but that is only natural no 1 manager has done what alex has done at one club! as for the likes of eto and ronaldinho u are right they are abit of trouble makers especially eto he has a big attitude problem from what i understand.
i dont think fergie bad at spotting players he knows about them but he never seems to land them. but the ones he does get are always second rate rooney instead of ronaldinho, veron instead of nedved. he missed on brazilian ronaldo, Torres.
as for anderson he was originally a forward but now all of a sudden he is like a defensive midfielder. i do beleieve nani will improve but why did we buy him when quaresma is out there. only fergie will now. if u look at wenger his player buying policy is much better than fergies. for me ronaldo isnt even that great. ronaldinho, romario, messi, ronaldo of old, kaka they are great players. cr7 just scored loads of goals in past 2 seasons on bif stage he does very little, so u right he not the whole team but what else do we have to compete with eu giants. its not like we have fanatastic football like aresenal or barcelona that we can rely on.
who know what goes thru fergies head when buying players but if other teams can get them why cant we its not like we dont have money?
Hafiz - August 2nd, 2008 at 6:39 am
manchester united should sign BERBATOV because C.Ronaldo is leaving united but I feel sad but nevermind just let him go.I think that united should sign player like RAUL,FABREGAS,VAN DE VART orRONDINHO
