Liverpool £20m bid a DONE DEAL: Star signing just days away!
by Mr Comfort on July 21st, 2008 279 words | 63 commentsThe source below, and not myself, suggests that the deal to bring a certain Spurs striker to Anfield is all but complete, could this really happen?
Liverpool are confident they will sign Tottenham striker Robbie Keane this week despite chairman Daniel Levy making a complaint against them to the Premier League.
Levy, who has also asked for Manchester United to be investigated over their pursuit of Dimitar Berbatov, has accused Liverpool of approaching Keane and his agent Struan Marshall about a move without Spurs’ permission.
He was also angry over Benitez declaring his interest publicly in a television interview 11 days ago.
But Standard Sport understands a deal worth up to £20million, with Liverpool paying the full amount should they win the Champions League or Premier League while Keane is at the club, is close to being agreed.
Sources close to Anfield have revealed the club are unconcerned over Levy’s complaint to the League and feel most of his ire is aimed at Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who was quoted last week saying it was only a matter of time before Berbatov came to Old Trafford. (Daily Mail)
So will Robbie Keane leave White Hart Lane to join Rafa’s revolution? Well this report seems to think that Daniel Levy’s anger towards Sir Alex has made it all that easier for Liverpool to seal a deal for the Irish international. If this is the case then the Merseyside club will have one hell of a strike pairing next term but I am sure we haven’t heard the last of this from Tottenham’s point of view. Do Liverpool supporters think this deal is as certain as the Daily Mail suggests it is?

I doubt its a done deal, but by the sound of things might be done. Specially since Ramos is preparing for life without the duo pair. Keane would be a great addition to the Kop, but i doubt spurs have accepted the reported 20mil bid. and I doubt the mail is a very credible source, untill you see on sky sports, liverpool site or bbc, its not a done deal yet
CY - July 21st, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Keane wouldn’t be too bad. A 50-50 gamble on whether he can win us any silverware.
It would be nice if Liverpool can buy another good player other than just Robbie Keane. Leave Gareth Barry, hes out of training, out of support, out of confidence. It might take him one whole season to get himself back on track.

Robbie “10 goals a year” Keane for £20m
I hope we are paying in monoply money !

Soccerly.com - July 21st, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Everything is still a rumor as far as i’m concerned. It has always been like this during transfer season time. Heard of Ronaldinho’s transfer rumor to Man City weeks ago? Until he is presented in the media.
Keane is capable of scoring more than 10 goals, i’m sure of that.
king kenny 18 - July 21st, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Yes i think we should wait..it all depends how many players Ramos can get ..if he struggles to get his targets .keane may not be sold..and Berbatov would get them closer to 30m ..so you just dont know how things will go…i am confident Keane will go to Liverpool and i think he would settle in fairly quiclky and with some extra quality around him..mmm he could score 20 goals if he stays fit all season…and it would be interestin to see how he would get on in champions league..
Shameless - July 22nd, 2008 at 12:43 am
fuk keane n get david villa in sell alonso and kuyt that should be enough to but him him and torress upfront together and we will get all the silver this season
Shameless - July 22nd, 2008 at 12:46 am
also liverpool should get david silva he is an ace player 2
Robi Ocean - July 22nd, 2008 at 1:56 am
I am a liverpool fan. I believe we need two more new faces. Afer we get the Keane hopefully, we should get David Silva and Rafael van der vaart
and I promise we’ll get all the silver cup season.
True Red - July 22nd, 2008 at 7:27 am
Yep I think, Keane is a good target, but Spurs needs to really think of reducing the price a bit (approx. 15-16 m pounds). He would be the perfect foil for Torres, in terms of link up. Then all what Liverpool needs is Silva, who can switch wing positions when the need is called for). I feel this was our failure in winning premierships in the past – excellent wing players. Keane plus Silva a good deal, with the Barry saga still to be sorted out.
Proper Pundit - July 22nd, 2008 at 7:59 am
£20m for Keane? not worth it reguardless of what is said or done…how is a player like Keane going to turn liverpool from a top 4 team into champions? Keane and Torres would not work well, they both think they are class and make the same runs – but the difference is: only Torres actually is class!!! And where do LFC fans get the impression David Silva or David Villa are going to the Kop? – Tottenham really have not got a clue about football, their fans believe anything in the papers…But even their Chairman is now! what an embarrassment that will be if it goes to court “but judge, i read it in the paper!” haha MUG!

sparky - July 22nd, 2008 at 8:25 am
20 mil is too expensive…………. correct me if I’m wrong, but we bought Torres for 26 mil…… and he’s a shiteload better than Keane. Sell all the deadwood; penant, kyut, voronin, finan, put this money with the 20 mil and buy a real winger or two…… preferably one that can cross into the box.
RafaTheRed - July 22nd, 2008 at 8:30 am
From a great source which I will not disclose the deal was done on the weekend…!!!
It will be officially anounced this week.
Sorry Spurs fans however it’s 100% true
larry - July 22nd, 2008 at 8:42 am
Ever since the yanks have come in we have been absolutely mugged off by inflated prices for players. We’re turning into a mickey mouse club that teams like Spurs think they can have over the coals and its starting to become a joke. The thing is, the last two times we spent big, the players completely justified their price tags. Lets just hope Robbie does the same.
Macca - July 22nd, 2008 at 8:46 am
Look lads Keane is a very good player, he will score way more than the ten goals which some people are suggesting. We have to be realastic here, we cannot possibly sign David Villa, as that we do not have the dosh, if we offered 20 mill for him, you can bet that Valencia will want more and more and if they accept one bid who is to say they wont accept another teams bid too.
At the moment Keane wants to join us, why would we not like to have him? Anyways, as its either him or Vornin to play alongside Torres. And as I see it Keane is 10 time the player Vornin will ever be.
I feel we need a winger more than anything else, maybe Silva, Joaquin or Bently hopefully not Milner or Reira.
KOPNDITE - July 22nd, 2008 at 8:55 am
YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE!!!!!!
Up the REDS.
Come on Rafa, get Silva and close the deal on Keane!
In Rafa we trust!
Liverfreak - July 22nd, 2008 at 9:27 am
Getting Kean to play alongside Torres will be great, getting D.Villa will even be greater BUT the chances of us getting Villa is very low so why not get Kean who wants to come.He is a great finisher and we will benefit.
Liverfreak - July 22nd, 2008 at 9:33 am
Not worth 20mil though.Bring price down and he’ll still come.
Anonymous - July 22nd, 2008 at 9:36 am
Keanes goal record with spurs:
07-08 -23
06-07 -22
05-06 -16
04-05 -17
03-04 -16
02-03 -13
not too bad and seems to be getting better. and remember he is a second striker mainly and creates more than he scores! he works his socks off and has great awareness. Rafa’s type of player!! good signing I think.
Liverfreak - July 22nd, 2008 at 9:40 am

Keane and Torres. Oh Yes!!

gutting but fair enough i guess, keano is a top quality player who will add to any team. will always be a spurs leg-end

a few days ago i thought keane would definately be coming but now spurs chairman makes it sound quite clear- they’re not selling keane or berbatov

Where is the love?
ching - July 22nd, 2008 at 11:28 am
Robbie Keane – admired him for a long time, has got more mature, always committed, great eye for goal, and would fit in perfectly to the LFC ethic.
He’s an LFC fan, he’s in his prime right now, and he’s already adjusted to the rigours of the EPL.
£20 million perhaps a bit steep, but still better value than Villa who is rated at closer to £30 million.
PS to all the Liverpool-haters posting on this thread… obviously you have nothing better to do all day other than posting moronic comments on a website about a team you don’t even support. I truly pity your sad life.
david elnino - July 22nd, 2008 at 11:45 am
well said ching dude. keane to wear the number 7 of liverpool.
Janindra - July 22nd, 2008 at 11:54 am
Berbatov, the best striker the Spurs have is heading to ManU
while the second best striker, Keane, is coming to Liverpool.
Let the best players go to United and may all the second best
or average players come to liverpool. We will celebrate our
Fourth Position again next season!…
Kaka will come to Chealsea for 119m pounds….
while it takes almost two months for liverpool
to contact Gareth Barry and Keane but nothing
happens!
The yanks provide rafa for 15m-20m pounds
with the hope of winning the title!
david elnino - July 22nd, 2008 at 12:12 pm
janindra is a fool and narrow minded. we already have the best striker in EL NINO TORRES. we are simply buying KEANE as he will play off torres, be a provider as well as goal scorer, look at his assist stats as well as goal scoring. kaka WILL NOT go to chelsea, trust me.
Liverfreak - July 22nd, 2008 at 12:59 pm
david elnino is stupid and ignores the fact that
RAFA actually wants one more striker. He
mentions David Villa with much impression.
I hope you don’t forget it. If David Villa plays
along with TORRES upfront, they will form
a very devastating leathal weapons for
Liverpool. If the signing could take place,
ManU and Chealsea are of course frightened
to play against Liverpool.
But RAFA *accepted* later that he could not
afford to buy David Villa because of the shortage
of money given that the owners provide him with
a sum of 15m-20m pounds.
So he turns to Plan B…to sign Keane instead. I
am talking about the financial situation within
Liverpool. Look at how Chealsea spend and how
strong ManU are after they have enough money
to spend. Get it?
david elnino - July 22nd, 2008 at 1:04 pm
liverfreak, wind ur f**king neck in son! i know he wants one more striker, keane! thats why he’s going for him u twat. trust me will he form a lethal partnership with torres if they both stay fit. keane is already a settled premiership player with experience, so i cant see there being problems. liverfreak………away and set urself on fire.
Liverfreak - July 22nd, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Agreed on that my fallow Liverfreak, but also get david elnino’s piont by saying that we should look besides the number of goals Keane scores he also sets up that amount of goals and even more.
LIVERPOOL BUM FUCKER - July 22nd, 2008 at 1:09 pm
ASK ANY SPURS FAN AND HE WILL TELL U THE SAME THAT KEANE IS BETTER THAN BERBS SO U GUYS CAN GO ON AS MUCH AS U LIKE ABOUT HIS NOT WORTH THIS HIS NOT WORTH THAT AT THE END OF THE DAY U WILL BE LUCKY IF U GET HIM FOR 20M AND NOT 25MILLION MAN U R FORKING OUT FOR BERBS
david elnino - July 22nd, 2008 at 1:11 pm
not approving of ur name numb nuts above, but i rest my case that keane is top quality and super signing for us, and will look good in the red of liverpool with number 7 on his back
Captain Wiggles - July 22nd, 2008 at 1:14 pm
(STAT: Keane finished the 2007-08 season equal top scorer for Spurs with Berbatov, with 23 goals in all competitions. His 15 Premiership goals making him the first Spurs player to score double figures in the premier league in 6 consecutive seasons.) – Cant argue with that!!! Keane is a quality player to link up behind Torres, and if we get another 15 goals (And the many assists he provides) this season, we will be challenging for top spot. But, agree we need a quality winger as well.
Liverfreak - July 22nd, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Screw you..
You Bum Fucker…
david elnino - July 22nd, 2008 at 1:17 pm
captain wiggles, digging ur views, exactly what ive been saying in this article, and sum sillly twats who call themselves liverpool fans have been disagreeing with me. defo need a left winger, maybe james milner/david silva or albert riera, but he needs to show more consistency.
SpursFan - July 22nd, 2008 at 1:27 pm
I have to say that Berbs is better than Keane Liverpool Bum F***er. And I can link you to a Spurs website where everyone on the site agrees.
Keane shows more passion than Berbs and works like a horse. £20 million is expenisve, but then again we paid £16.5million for Bent. haha.
The only thing is, I can’t see Torres and Keane working well together. It’s risky. Someone said that Keanes goal scoring has got better recently, know why? He was playing with Berbatov up front. He scored 16 goals in the 05/06 season, then Berbatov arrived, and he goes to 22, then 23. You need to hope that Torres and Keane can play together.
P.S. I’m not bitter at all….
Anonymous - July 22nd, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Not a fan of Keane, but if he comes good luck to him. I just hope its not for anything more than 12m. Shame we cant get villa, thought he was quality pre Euro’s and knew as soon as he bagged his hat-trick he would probably be out of liverpools reach. Gutting considering how well he and Torres show’d they could play together. Villa, Barry (both at reasonable prices) plus a quality Left Winger would have turned us into contenders.
Whoever comes in there are still to many average or underperforming players still at the club who need to be shipped out.
Alonso (Underperformed for a couple of seasons now + still could get a good price for him)
Aurelio (not good enough)
Arbeloa (not good enough)
Kuyt (although looks better on the wing, liverpool could do better)
Leiva (Overrated. Make or break season, must improve alot)
Voronin (not good enough)

David elnino, wind ur f**king neck in son! elnino, wind ur f**king neck in son! yes, Keane is a good signing but he don’t think he can be compared to David Villa. Rafa wants Villa. But the latter is beyond his reach….so he looks for Keane instead.
Remember that Keane is a second option.
Get my poin?

at the end of the day my lfc faithfuls,no lfc players want 2 leave r club, even if we where offered 75m 4 torres we wudnt want it an neither wud he,all this unsettling talks not gona do united any gud, its all about the possitive vibes and i feel only gud ones 4 liverpool.ya just dont no how keane wud do at lpool, but one thing i do av to say is that keane has been brilliant 4 spurs and spurs r in the prem, villa is brilliant, but it has 2 b said, hes had a good euro and no 1 wud of thought of paying 32m 4 him if he didnt,4 the price of villa u can get keane and a top winger,DONE.
And then lets get this stadium built.
fAndy - July 22nd, 2008 at 5:15 pm
I think Keane will be a great addition to the team. All those peole worrying about him not being able to link up with Torres should relax…they are both quality players and have both (Keane at Spurs with Berbatov and Torres for Spain with Villa) had experience of dropping off and turning provider, thus allowing their srtike partner to play highest up the pitch. I think at Liverpool they will circulate and change roles throughout the game, much like Rooney and Tevez do at United to great effect (sorry, it did hurt to admit that but they do). I still feel we need a good winger or two – Babel talented but is a striker really, like Yossi but don’t see him as number 1 winger. The americans have made it hard fro Rafa financially, but lets reserve too much judgement til the season starts and we know for certain who we have signed.
My Team
Reina
Arbeloa Carragher Agger / Skrtel Dossena
Mascherano
Kuyt Gerrard Barry
Keane / Babel
Torres
fAndy - July 22nd, 2008 at 5:18 pm
Ps can we all stop ripping each other’s teams and just keep the respect, makes it far more interesting rather than saying “your teams shit” what’s the point? Lets have some proper debate, eh fellas?
lfc4life - July 22nd, 2008 at 6:14 pm
who the fuck is ngog and why is rafa buying shit as uaual, we have sold carson, crouch etc and everyday we get rumoured with that we have almost signed keane thats been over a fucking week now are we actually buying him or not and are we gonna get any good players this season, all we got is defensive players and a goalkeeper we need attacking players who can score lots of goals unlie kuyt voronin and pennant, fucksake rafa sign barry, keane, bentley or silva kick out that shit voronin, pennant and leto.
lfc4life - July 22nd, 2008 at 6:15 pm

Think that Robbie will be a great signing 4 The Kops. He has good vision, good scoring ability and is already adapt to EPL. Berbatov scores goals because he had Robbie behind him. Now he will be behind ELNINO, what a chance. Rafa wants silverware and he is giving himself chances to get it with the little money he has. Villa is great but will not adapt to EPL. Need one winger like Shaun. Why not dream a little and get Podolski from Bayern.
You’ll never walk alone.

RAFA DO US ALL A FAVOUR GET RID OF THAT FUCKING PEICE OF SHIT VORONIN HE DOES NOT DESERVE TO WEAR THE LIVERPOOL SHIRT, HE IS A FUCKING JOKE AND IS SUCH SHIT, HIS NOT WORTH 3MIL MORE LIKE 3P.
Snowy - July 22nd, 2008 at 8:31 pm
All you lads who keep calling LFC shit? Are they not rated number 1 in Europe? Have Man U & Chelsea not made some shit signings before? Lets face it who spends the most will most proberly win, Man U last year spent most & Chelsea the two seasons before?? I rest my case ZZZZZ
Snowy - July 22nd, 2008 at 8:39 pm
And Chelsea spending 16million on a right back!!! Make Robbie Keane look cheep! We need a winger & a forward. Spend big look what happened when we could spend for once in Chelsea % Man U’s league we got Torres! Thing is they can do it twice every season. Man Utd & Chelsea have doninated since money has been more important for ever. Lets face it i Raffa wins the Prem he will have acheived almost the imposible with the more & more importance of money. I hate to say it but it will be a two hourse race this year, you need a billionaire who wants to spend then you may just be able to play.
bridgey - July 23rd, 2008 at 12:00 pm
fair enough snowy, but its not quite as cut and dry as that,av always said u cant buy passion and that is wots got us far in the champ lge,we just need to transfer it to the prem for a full season, keanes got that passion, hes a winner and hes been brilliant for 2 seasons, were all 4gettin hes gona b plyin alongside a better squad aswel.
david elnino - July 23rd, 2008 at 12:03 pm
like a true red, i always have hope in my heart for the coming season……with barry, keane and a winger that is
people said it would be the same again with spain in the euros flattering to deceive, but they won it. so why cant liverpool now push closer for the premiership with a better squad and 3 new signings. cant write off liverpool until the season starts. lets get behind rafa and the team.
reds_of_merseyside - July 23rd, 2008 at 12:35 pm
wtf get 10 more million and get villa
nick reddyoff - July 23rd, 2008 at 4:20 pm
I think 20m for Keane, and 17-20m for Silva and then we should pack up our transfer kitty until January. Let Barry sweat until he buys out his own contract in January and get him for 6m. I don’t think Villa would be the right signing at this stage, but if they’ve got the money then Silva (priority as we really need a decent winger) and Villa would be just lovely!
edirock - July 29th, 2008 at 8:21 am
calm down people!
we have to admit keane at 20 mil is kinda expensive, but i guess that’s the price of a descent striker in epl today. remember when we got cisse at 14 mil and morientes at around 8 mil. and u can expect what kind of shitty signings we made in the past all because we don’t have enough fund like m.u and chelsea? please
