Liverpool ready to move for classy £16m star: What a signing this would be!
by Mr Comfort on July 21st, 2008 220 words | 22 commentsIts been reported that Valencia are preparing to admit defeat and sell off some of their top quality players in order to balance the books and apparently Rafa is eagerly watching proceedings!
Spanish La Liga side Valencia CF may be forced to sell some of their best players this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Liverpool said to be ready to make a move for La Furia Roja star striker David Villa, with David Silva and Joaquín also possibly available.
After Peter Crouch’s departure to Portsmouth, Liverpool are in the transfer market looking for at least a direct replacement, although reports have also claimed that Villa’s team-mate, wide-man David Silva is also on Benitez’s wish-list.
Benitez has also shown interest in Villa’s teammate David Silva, who is reportedly available for around £16m (€20m). (Premiership latest)
David Silva could be just what Anfield needs, a player who can beat defenders and provide amply ammunition for Torres (and whoever may or may not partner him up front). The price seems reasonable and he seems a better bet than other wide-men also linked with a move to Merseyside. One would have thought that given Benitez’s links with his old club he would have the best chance of persuading the Mestalla outfit to sell. Of all the wingers linked with the club which player most excites Liverpool fans?

Is it just me but did Silva look rather ordinary during Euro 2008? He certainly didn’t get me on the edge of my seat! He looked too small for the Prem and I’m not sure he could handle the physical side in England. No doubt you’ll all tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about, but I have grave doubts about him.

Yes! The signing of David Silva is perfect and a right step ahead for the club. He is not too expensive, 20 million is a bargain for someone as skilld as him, and have the extra advantage of the limitness potential of youth. If I get to choose btw Keane and Silva I’ll even opt for Silva. BUY HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Atlast Rafa has opened his eyes !
and the poxy press have stopped winding us up with half wits like Robbie “10 goals per year” Keane, Stuart Dowing, Reira and James Milner.
Silva = Silverware. Thank you Rafa !

David Villa - July 21st, 2008 at 10:02 pm

Ye David silva ..he would bring back a touch of Peter Beardsley. lol Naw seriously he is quick ,has lots of good skills ,beats defenders and gets good passes into the box..he is similar to Pablo Aimar i think..hes worth a chance…buy Keane…and Barry …maybe some decent attacker..and with the return of Agger and Dossena,Degen, skrtel, will start his first full season and i expect a good season from kyut and babel can only get better..so thaatsgood news..we will win the title if we get those filthy scheming yanks to splash 80 – 100 mill..sure we can raise 40 mill from transfers…and put 40 mill of the clubs money..cum on we won the Champions in 05 in the final in o7 , Fa cup against W.Ham…qualifying for champions league consistantly now..so where is all this money goin..and its a lot of money..what about all the money Houllier Generated from his treble..and super cup..he made a lot of his transfer fees money back..by selling some players. in anyway they keep sayin every year ..were broke ..there wont be much funds ..15- 25 ..is all they ever say ..come on yis tite bastards get spending ..just get the players and start winning..

probably joaquin is the better winger than silva….so hurry Rafa get the man!!
hemanta - July 22nd, 2008 at 5:18 am
I think silva is a very good player but he is not a goal scorerwhich is a problem. as long as torres is fit it won’t be bad but once he’s injured Ican’t see others chiping in goal, we certainly don’t have striker.and silva plays well only if he gets space and don’t have a very deadly pace, premiership is very tight and full of physical games so , as much as I would like to see him play in LFC I doubt he will be as effective.I think joaquin is much better option and bear in mind thet he won’t be as costy.

Here we go again…Full of Shit…Mr Comfort..Just shut it man…We dont have the money to buy Villa or even Silva…Keane will sign and the final signing for the season will be Barry..tats it..STOP THIS FUCKING SENSELESS STUPID RUMORS!
Dom - July 22nd, 2008 at 8:55 am
I agree with Ticky. Silva is not the type of player we need. We might aswell buy Garcia back then. I like Rafas thoughts this summer buying well known PL-perfomers like Barry and Keane and think this would do the trick, although Bentley would be a great addition as well.
Richardtheframeman - July 22nd, 2008 at 11:04 am
Bentley is going to spurs

For those wondering if Silva will fit in the Premiership, from what I have seen he will absolutely. I watched the Copa Del Rey final earlier this year and he was the star of the show. He made all the goals bar Morientes’ header. He was such a threat that Getafe tried to kick him off the park, literally. He just bounced back up and ran rings round them. Forget Riera – Silva operates at a completely different level and is just what we need. Fantastic!!

I also agree with Ticky and Dom. Silva was very poor in Euro finals, no end product, lost posession often, is too small and is similar to Garcia without the speculator goals. Catches the eve every now and again, but a 90 minute PL game, I think he would be missing often. Think PL will be too much for him. Joaquín for me is a far better bet and he alos scores, and is far cheaper. Yossi has the Silvia role and is also better. We need wingers who will deliver at least 10 PL goals per year. Cannot have another Pennant.
As for strikes, think we are going for the wrong Spurs striker but United are in pole position. If Davaid Villa becomes available at a value for money price, would prefer him and Joaquín. We canot afford both Keane and Silvia, if we also get Barry.
As for the full backs, everyone assume they are better then what we had. I await judgement and worry about freebies that cannot get in their national teams.
I do agree though that Barry and Keane would add PL experience and should settle in quickly, so they are low risk, all be it expensive and for same money I feel we could get better quality even if there is additional settling in time.

im sick of hearing about thess so called transfer targets
i love lfc but come on be real ithink well make 1 more signing
and i think unfortunately rafas gonna blow 18 million on barry.
James - July 22nd, 2008 at 7:36 pm
can’t believe i’m reading comments suggesting silva had a poor euro 2008. Was i watching the same tournament as you guys!?”? He was absolutley quality, ran the show for spain in my opinion, also able to play either wing, isn’t as lightweight as he looks and has plenty of skills.
Please Rafa stop wasting time with barry and put the money towards silva, would be an absolute snip at £16m
