Spurs ready to make sneaky bid for £16m man: Could be a very clever piece of business!
by Mr Comfort on July 21st, 2008 304 words | 19 commentsJuande Ramos is considering a very sneaky move for a midfielder who happens to be very high up on the Liverpool wishlist!
Tottenham are ready to put a spanner in Liverpool’s transfer’s plans by making a move for Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry if Robbie Keane winds up at Anfield.
Spurs are still furious over what they perceive to be the tapping up of their star strikers and have filed complaints to the Premier League over the Kop club’s pursuit of Republic of Ireland international Keane and Manchester United’s desire to buy Dimitar Berbatov.
It seems likely that the Londoners will sell the Bulgaria forward to Barcelona if they submit a concrete bid rather than allow him to move to Old Trafford.
Keane may not have any other suitors so Spurs may reluctantly have to let him head to Merseyside.
They may also reignite previous interest in Spurs fan Barry, who was a Tottenham target a couple of years ago.
Villa have also fallen out with Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez over what they deem to be unsettling tactics for their prize asset and would be far more receptive to a Spurs bid for their skipper, who has burnt too many bridges to remain with the Midlands club. (The Metro)
Gareth Barry is the kind of player who could do wonders at White Hart Lane, forming an interesting central midfield partnership with Luka Modric. Rafa’s interest in the Aston Villa skipper may have lessened after being rejected a couple of times, due to the bids not being deemed worthy by Martin O’Neill. Clearly if Benitez does snare Keane, then he would have even less funds to offer the Midlands club and therefore Ramos has an even better shot at clinching the England international. Do Tottenham fans think that bidding for Barry would be a wise move?

well where would he fit in? maybe helping huddlestone in DM but useful in a more advanced midfield position or on the left. I think the way we are going to be playing next season he won’t fit in anywhere. A great player and if he came to the Lane then it would be a good buy but just not sure where he would fit. I dont think well pull it off anyway. We have other more pressing issues than Gareth Barry at the moment.

yes, yes, yes, yes , if he comes to spurs ,the team he actually supports, he will be absolutely great, beacuse, if you truly love the club, you will never stop trying, and inspiring, yes, yes ,yes ,yes.

barry would be a tasty addition to the squad and i cant see why he would not fit in as a DM with modric and jj in CM and 1 striker up as i strongly feel this will be our new system under ramos.he can also play different positions and we know ramos likes that.he’s also a spurs supporter as you mentioned, and thats got to be a bonus.

been saying this to me dad, wouldnt he be ideal for the dm slot alongside modric , gio in front, capel and bentley on the wings and maybe pavlechenco!

M.COYS. i dont believe gio will play central,i think he is being prepped for LM with bale supporting.also gio and modric would be very lightweight in CM whereas JJ would give more bite.

while i am in a typing mood i just wanted to put a name out there for the lone striker role.we have been linked with many strikers but not too many have mentioned kanouta.while ramos was at sevilla using the system were pretty sure he is going to incorperate here (4-5-1, 4-1-4-1)he used kanouta as the lone striker and he was pretty amazing,he suited the system perfectly.he has progressed in leaps and bounds since leaving us and he credits that to ramos’s coaching,he also knows the prem well and i strongly believe at a good price he could do very well here under ramos again using his system.any thoughts on a kanouta return?.

You seriously think Martin O’Neill will sell Gareth Barry to Tottenham, a team he is actively looking to surpass in the Premier League? Get real, he’s more likely to sell to Liverpool!!

I think everybody mis-understands the type of midfielder Modric is and therefore believe him to be an attacking midfielder when he actually mainly operates in front of the back four, winning pocession, starting of moves and breaking with the team. I wouldnt be surprised to see him paired with Jenas in the middle of the field and thankfully taking over from Zokora!

In reply to Greekos, I think a playe of Barrys quality would have players like Zokora and to a lesser extent Huddlestone (still relatively young) wondering where they would fit rather than the other way round. Top drawer, conststent and apparently a Spurs fan.

Personnally I think Ramos (when Keane was still a factor) wants to play a 4-1-4-1 formation with Modric sitting front of the back four picking up the ball and dictating the play. Jenas would play as a box-to-box mid (coz of his running) and Keane would be the link to the stikers. Then two of Lennon, Gio, Capel, Malbranque, Bentley, Taarabt would be used as attacking wide-men with a lone striker holding the ball up and bringing wide players into play.
Don’t really see where Barry would fit into this personnally. Great player, and would be an asset to any team, just think with Thudd and Moric we have our defensive linchpins (creators) and with Zok and Jenas we have our box-to-box mids, just need creativity up front and that was going to be supplied by Keane, Malbranque or Santos.

no disprespect mate but how is it that u see modric as a def mid?? he is a creative cm/am who like jenas plays box to box?? In no way is he a ball winner and certainly dont have the physical presence or persistance tackling and chasing down the midfield..
If any thing we have zokora and thud who can play holding + tainio or o’hara at last resort…
still need quality holding(dm) ie mascherano/makalele/vi^ra role.
Hope fully will get l mf and replace or keep berb and keane and we got a decent chance being top 4, other wise forget it, just anther ave campaign.

Spurs tapping up in the tabloids yet again. Quick, report them to the FA!
Spurt - July 22nd, 2008 at 4:50 pm
Barry immediately comfortable wherever he plays, so dm.
Modric creative am
Dos Santos left cm
Jenas/Hudd right cm
Taarabt/Lennon wide rm
Capel/Arshavin wide lm
I really think Pavlyachenko for front target man, seemed very comfortable there.
blah blah blah - July 22nd, 2008 at 7:43 pm
xc> yeah, modric is essentially a creative/attacking midfielder, but not at the euro’s for croatia. billic played him in the defensive midfield role and he looked as good as anybody in the business. as for not being persistent, have you ever seen him play????
