Arsenal to bid for £8m teenage star pair: Two players with great potential
by Mr Comfort on July 22nd, 2008Arsene Wenger is a wily transfer market operator, and it appears that he is more interested in stars of the future rather than big money bids for stars of today. This is highlighted by the story from the source below.
According to Tuttosport, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been blown away by the ability of Sebastian Giovinco, and is ready to table a bid for him and fellow Juventus starlet Claudio Marchisio.
Giovinco is widely regarded as one of the most explosive young talents in Europe currently, and he is being tipped by many experts to be a superstar in the near future. The 21-year-old, who is back at Juve after spending last season on loan at Empoli, has hit the news recently due to problems regarding the renewal of his contract.
This led to reports last week that English trio Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool were all ready to take advantage of this confusion and bring the young prodigy to the Premiership.
Wenger will travel to next month’s Olympic Games specifically to watch Giovinco, and Italy Under-21 team-mate Claudio Marchisio, also of Juventus. (goal.com)
Giovinco is already very well-known in his Italian homeland, and has been thought of as a very big star for the future. The attacking midfielder had a good season on loan at Empoli last term, where he was one of the few bright sparks in their ultimately fruitless attempt to avoid relegation to Serie B.
Juve boss Claudio Ranieri wants him to play a part in his team’s plans this coming season, but the youngster is making wage demands that the board appear unwilling to listen to, so Wenger is very wise to stake a claim in the player. Marchisio is a little more established at the Turin club, and was also a hit at Empoli on loan last term. Both could be available for as little as £8m and would be very astute purchases.
Do Arsenal fans think that Arsene should continue to bring in players without a great deal of high-level experience?

Masal (Massi) Bugduv has been described as one of the most exciting young footballers to come out of Moldovan football. He is the one Arsenal will buy. This guy is just 16 and already an international.
eric - July 22nd, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Yes Slaven,
I think Bugduv will be nabbed by Wenger. In fact he will prob be there before end of the month. Lots of comment around about him though at the moment which could alert Chelsea etc. His name is misspelt everywhere too as it has some sort of an umlaut thingy that makes it difficult to find, esp on this comp

no way juve….
rvp is our best striker n he aint 4 sale… if u put such conditions then wenger wil look elsewhere… nyways there aint any dearth of talent all over t world… n arsenal’s known to buy young unpolished talents n create superstars outta them….
so if u put forth such conditions then u can shove both giovinco n Claudio Marchisio up ur fat arse ranieri n t juve management…

i feel wenger is not intersted in any part exchanges, not only that but he is looking for one high quality experienced player 24-26 that cover in defence play on both flanks and has alot of first football, quite franky wenger has enough young talnent in the reserves with likes fran marida, kerreb gibbs and players like that what wenger knows he needs is a bit of experience in his team, i think is wenger mind rvp is number 1 striker is not letting him go

Arsenal target Moldovan sensation Bugduv to be loaned to Irish club Cork City
BALTI, MOLDOVA (AP) The top sports daily in Balti, Moldova is reporting Tuesday night that Moldovan teenage sensation Masal ‘Massi’ Bagduv is in London with a view to signing for a leading English football club, with Reading FC being named as the most likely destination.
If signed, it is believed that the teenage international who is now out of contract at Olimpia Tirol will be loaned to Irish Club Cork City for the remainder of the Irish domestic football season and will return to play for Reading in mid-winter.
The deal is believed to be part of the plans by Reading to sell Ireland striker Kevin Doyle and to purchase Cork striker David Mooney.
“Massi is a player of great and enormous potential who will bring wins to what ever club he plays for. Already this year he has caught the interest of Arsenal FC manager Wenger and Zenit St Petersburg, but he wants to play in English football and our plan is to gradually introduce him to this” said his agent and mentor Sergei Yulikov last night.
“I cannot comment on the Reading situation and the link with the Irish club City of Cork FC,”but if it means that Massi will be playing in England this season 08-09, it can only be good for him.
Bugduv left Moldova at 0700 GMT Tuesday in the company of Yulikov and flew to London via Budapest, where it is believed he has met with officials of Reading FC.
Masal Bugduv has been described as one of the most exciting young footballers to come out of Moldocan football.
Born on April 14, 1992, he shot to fame playing for his native FC Olimpia B?l?i for whom he scored a hattrick on his competitive debut in an Adzi Cup match in December 2007.
Bagduv became the youngest player capped at that level by his country and he went on to make his senior international debut aged just 16 years and 44 days when he came on for the national team in their 2-2 draw with Armenia in a friendly international in Tiraspol on May 28.
Trailing 2-1 with just ten minutes left, Moldova seemed set to lose until Bagduv lost his marker on the left wing, shimmied inside two defenders and fired in a shot that could only be parried by Armenian keeper Racif into the path of onrushing Igor Bugaev who equalised. (AP)
