Spurs to seal £5m deal within HOURS
by Mr Comfort on July 23rd, 2008 270 words | 31 commentsThis flop is apparently only a medical away from ending his stuttering Tottenham career!
PASCAL Chimbonda is believed to be undergoing a medical at Sunderland today ahead of a move to the Stadium of Light.
Black Cats boss Roy Keane has had a joint bid – believed to be a massive £23 milllion – accepted by Spurs for Chimbonda and team mates Teemu Tainio, Younes Kaboul and Steed Malbranque.
Chimbonda looks to be the first of the quarter to join the Wearsiders, and could be followed by Tainio, who revealed that a move to Sunderland interests him.
Kaboul is expected to make a decision on the deal today, although would prefer a move to Aston Villa or Portsmouth, while Malbranque is also attracting Villa.
It is thought that should the combined deal fall through, then Chimbonda would cost Keane around £4.9 million. (West Essex and East London Guardian )
Pascal has become something of a marked man at White Hart Lane, where his time at the club was always nearing an end when his form nosedived dramatically last season. The former Wigan man will not be missed and Juande Ramos will no doubt be delighted to have received 5m more to spend on the market. Sunderland may well be a good fit for the Frenchman, but I can’t help but feel that it is highly likely that we will hear Chimbonda moaning before the year is out and then no doubt move back to France next summer!
Of all the crazy transfer rumours surrounding Spurs, this one is probably a relief. What are Spurs fans abiding memories of their soon to be former full back?

Second best right back in country (behind hutton) and he’s joining relagation-battlers Sunderland! Unbelieveable

£4.9 towards a good defender.

£23m for this lot, £25m for Berba (to Barce) and £20m for Keano. That’s £68m. That should immediately be reinvested in the following;
Miguel Veloso (Def. Mid) £20m
Klass Jan Huntelaar (ST) £20m
Diego Capel (LW) £15m or David Silva (LW) £20m
These three players, along with Modric and dos Santos, plus the return of King and Bale (just like two new signings) will give us the best shot at the top four.
Pekhart and Bent would provide adequate cover if Ramos goes with the expected 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1.

Right backs are supposed to be our last line of defense on the right hand side, yes? Newsflash, but more often than not this was NOT the case with Chimbonda. Yes, he had a very good 1st season, but has been average at best since then and for many games, a complete liability. Claiming he is 2nd best RB in Premiership is bollocks! Might have been once, has lost it since.

Personally, I’ll miss him. He can cover any position at the back. With the rumoured sale of Chimbonda, Kaboul, Stalteri, Gardner, Rocha and Lee we’re getting a wee bit threadbare in defence. Especially considering the injury record of Woodgate, King and Bale.
If we end up fielding a back four of Gunter – Dawson – Zokora – Gilberto at any point in the season, I guarantee I won’t be the only Spurs fan who misses “Shimbomba”.

I second that thought !
Sell SIX players for £68m and then blow it all on THREE players, who Huntelaar aside, aren’t worth anywhere near those figures ?!!!
Hahaha
spurfect one - July 23rd, 2008 at 7:55 pm
completley agree dublin spur we need some top quality defenders to give us more options in that area ,a top midfield destroyer is a must if we want to break the top 4.

bad piece of business for us.
remember a year ago chelsea wanted him for 10-12 mill and we were very upset by the thought of our best right back since Carr moving away.
it was probably his antics in the cup final that gave him his reputation, and when keano did exactly the same thing at ManCity he got praise instead. unfair.
I’ll have fond memories of chimbo, congrats to Sunderland for some good business
TIME FOR A PARTY! - July 23rd, 2008 at 8:41 pm
It is hard to comment without knowing the full picture. For example what is his own tx fee , is it conditional of all 4 and most importantly, what plans and will JR be given these funds too? As for memories, it is hard not to just remember him as a mercinary which he most definitley is. At times good and others bad but im sure that his high wage bill will be put to better use. As for the comments above, we need to get world class players not just average ones so if JR takes these funds and spends them on just three replacements thats good with me and also DL and the board who want to reduce the squad size. We have bought too many average players in the past and need to start getting special ones.

Bristul Spur - July 23rd, 2008 at 10:43 pm
I remember him at Villa PArk, when Daws got sent at the Witton end, despite not touching the player.
We played a large part of the game with Chimbondaat CB and he was great, we also lost the other CB to injury and Zokora and Pascal held it together under immende pressure.
I’d prefer to remember the positive, thank him and wish him good luck. I’d have been happy to keep him in the squad if he had the right attitude.
lodvic - July 24th, 2008 at 12:13 am
with the 68mil
get Milto, Arshavin or Huntelaar, Albelda, Capel, Bentley and CB (as cover)
or maybe just get one amazing striker to play with bent as we have Pekhart and Dos Santos as cover.

Jungle Spur - July 24th, 2008 at 6:42 am
We will regret selling Kaboul. He will be worth 20 million very soon.
Roy Keane is no mug when it comes to judging players.

Hutton is the best right back in england just now.
chimbonda will do well at Sunderland like he did at wigan.
Scott - July 24th, 2008 at 10:47 am
He’s a twat. but he was never a flop. one of our better players in the last few seasons. it’s just his attitude that’s the problem
Scott - July 24th, 2008 at 10:48 am
‘Roy Keane is no mug when it comes to judging players.’… Not sure about that. In fact I’d say it was the weakest element to his managerial skill set.
Supayid - July 24th, 2008 at 10:56 am
I can’t believe some of the things I am reading. £23m for these four players is great business. Only Malbranque is of any real value and at the most that would be £8m to get £15m for the other three bit part players is definitely a good deal.
southern spur - July 24th, 2008 at 11:26 am
got to agree with supayid 23m is a fantastic deal for spurs! chimbonda and kaboul are a pair of moaning gimps who will never be happy at any club, malbranque is still my most over rated player in a spurs shirt tho he does put the effort in and tainio has a great attitude but is never going to set the world alight. all in all the board and ramos have done great business.

Got Hutton so Chim won’t warm the bench/Recaro seat!
And I don’t hate him.
