Wenger looks set to put in a bid for this highly rated international, at least that is what this source suggests.
Arsenal are reported to be lining up a bid for Sporting star Miguel Veloso, according to reports, writes Craig Rodhouse.
It is believed that Wenger sees Veloso as the perfect solution to his defensive midfielder problem, after seeing Mathieu Flamini and Gilberto Silva both leave the Emirates this season.
“He will not leave just for the sake of leaving, only for a club with a different dimension and is good for him and Sporting,” Barbosa said.
“Miguel will not leave for an average club that cannot match his expectations or surpass what Miguel could do at Sporting.”
The player like any professional would be open to offers. That is just a sensible attitude.” (Soccerblog)
Veloso is a quality player and as this report suggests, would be a very good replacement for midfielders who have left the club mostly prominently Mathieu Flamini. However his club are asking for a fee in the region of £18m for their man and that’s a tad ambitious for this Portuguese international. However if Wenger rates him highly enough and if he sees enough of a potential in the 22 year old then who knows a deal could be done. Obviously Arsene has also been running the rule on Gareth Barry who’s club is seeking a similarly fee for the England international. Do Arsenal think that either player is worth a bid of such magnitude?
