Arsenal set to move for £12m English youngster: Could be a perfect Wenger move!
by Mr Comfort on July 24th, 2008There appears to be some momentum forming on around speculation that Arsene Wenger could be about to move for a promising Manchester City midfielder.

Michael Johnson is keen on a move away from the Eastlands Stadium, with reports that the midfielder was unhappy at the way former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson was treated by City. It is also believed that Johnson is unhappy about not having financial parity with some of the other players at Manchester City.
North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Johnson this summer along with Merseyside club Everton, with City valuing Johnson in the region of £10million. (Premiershiplatest.com)
MANCHESTER City boss Mark Hughes is hoping to secure Arsenal target Michael Johnson on a new deal at Eastlands.
The England Under-21 international midfielder has attracted interest from a string of Premier League clubs including the north Londoners, although Hughes is keen to hang onto one of his most prized assets. (Guardian series)
Arsenal are reportedly lining up a summer move for Man City midfielder Michael Johnson (eyefootball.com)
Michael Johnson has been strongly linked with a few clubs recently including both Liverppool and Everton and it’s no surprise many sides are lining up for the 20 year old. He has shown maturity beyond his years and last season he was one of the big successes at Eastlands. Whilst the sacking of Sven unsettled many it appears the likes of Joe Hart and Richard Dunne have back tracked somewhat from their original declarations for moves, Johnson on the other hand doesn’t appear to have followed suit. Wenger can clearly see the potential in the 12m rated battler and he could well form an irristiable partnership with Fabregas and that will be hard to resist for the Gunners who appear to be getting ready to bid for star in the making, at least that is what these sources suggest. Do Arsenal fans think that Michael Johnson would be a perfect fit for the Emirates ethos? All you need is a bit of transfer rumour window voodoo.

Johnson is a player i admire greatly, he would be a brilliant buy! And he’s English!
Nigel - July 24th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
Johnson would complement Fabregas but maybe he is to young to be playing for a top four club and in Champions League?
mukhtar Shehu idris - July 24th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
well he is good but arsene should add with more expirieced player like yaya toure of barca.
gareb simonian - July 24th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
this wouldf be grat for arsenal he would be direct replacement for gilberto.
colins ogenga - July 24th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
again BIG N O too young for 40 plus games and more so CL
Jackman (arsenal fan) - July 24th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
Johnson is english, wow, and hes got great potential, but we would need a player with more experience like yaya toure, ashavin or axbi alonso.
K I-Double - July 24th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
Although I rate Johnson highly, he doesn’t have the experience necessary for Arsenal to mount a serious title challenge. Veloso or Yaya is more value for money
Devorsh - July 24th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Johnson is a wonderful player but Veloso is the man to sort our defensive midfield problems.Coquelin in a next year and a half can be the one to occupy that position. The boy has immense talent.
dan - July 24th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
as arsene says ‘ i buy those who can help us win the title’ , mj is a bit slight for the role. he’s quality but we need a classic dm. a seek and destroy monster who can shut down anything and anyone who dares approach our third of the pitch. a player who makes other teams think twice before venturing into hostile territory. a man whose mere presence gives opponents uncomfortable feeling that there will be trouble here today. a player who makes opponents want to grow eyes in the back of their heads.
cris b - July 24th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
yh of course he wil be good enough , but first we need to look for a DEFENSIVE central midfielder ;step in ivan campo of boltan , he’s got an old head and can see things happening before they have started , he would a great replacement gilberto
The Voice Of Reason - July 24th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
May called, it wants this rumor back. Old rumor and it ain’t happening. Carry on.
Nemo - July 24th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
ha-ha, Voice of Reason, spot-on, son! Arsene passed up the chance to sign up Ya Ya Toure two years ago. Alright, he ain’t the player now back then, but has anyone ever watched him in La Liga? Check him out and then see if you think we’ll bid for him.
cris b - July 24th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
once again , wenger is guna spend bacon sandwich money on a future lobster
john - July 24th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
no chance. Lets ask ourselves… is he as good as Diaby… NO. Therefore why spend 12million on some1 who probably wont play very much. Btw, Clichy as Arsenal captain? I’d be intrigued to hear ppls cases against it as I cannot see in any way how Clichy doesnt fit the bill of what is needed to be arsenal skipper.
arden - July 24th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
I agree with Dan. I don’t know much about Johnson but he does look a bit slight and we’re lacking a strong phisical prsesence in the team now that flamini has left. Toure would be the buy that everyone wants but I doubt wenger will get him.
daymee - July 24th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Michael Johnson will be a massive player whether he comes to Arsenal or not. He is a good player to have in the squad and if he was going for £10m I’d suggest investing in this type of player, obviously not as our defensive mid but as another utility central midfielder. I have seen a bit of him and I can tell thee this guy is worth a shout in an Arsenal shirt. Having Johnson and Barry will give us that balance we are seriously missing now. Veloso I agree is the most ideal but I cannot see it happen as Wenger will wait until his price drops, maybe next season. I cannot see Wenger paying the asking price of £18m for Veloso. I’d say buy Barry and Johnson for £22m with Hoyte going the other way
AFC4life - July 25th, 2008 at 12:20 am
Johnson would be great but it will sufficate the dev. of players like Randall and Merida. The mistake was made in Jan when we sold Diarra instead of loaning for the remainder of the season, he’s twice the player Flamini is but his atittude is a ?. By the way Hleb needs to shut up now he’s gone and why does Ade believe in his own hype?? Despite some quality finishes, he’s got the touch of a rapist, 6′3 and cant win a header, frequently goes missing in games and has as much vision as Stevie Wonder!!
Optimistic - July 25th, 2008 at 1:52 am

the goon-father! - July 25th, 2008 at 10:39 am
hes english which is a plus, has good talent but he hasnt got the experience we need to win things.
tht was one of our major problems towards the end of the season last year, we ddnt have experienced, controlled individuals that calmed players down wen we were dropping points.
ffs wenger please buy sum proven world class players!
gooner get ya - July 25th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
cris b..
IVAN CAMPO!! are you fuckin serious?? please dont smoke crack b4 you leave comments u’ll only make an ass of urself..
jackman (arsenal fan)
apart from ur very inventive name,( did u think of it all by urself??) i think u are a complete plank! buy yaya toure, arshavin or xabi alonso?! they have completely different styles and they play in different positions, al three could easily play in the same team, so how is just 1 of these 3 the best option 4 us? please dont ever talk shite like that again or i will be forced 2 report u 2 the authoritys, im not sure but there should, nay must be a law against this type of shit talk
thunberballs - July 25th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
