Juande Ramos has apparently made an impressive foray into the transfer market to offset the possible loss of their star striker.
Tottenham have made a £25m double swoop for strike stars Andrei Arshavin and Diego Milito.
The Journal understands Spurs are the only club to have matched Zenit St Petersburg’s €22m (£17.5m) valuation of Arshavin and are now waiting to see whether he is willing to come to White Hart Lane.
Milito, meanwhile, has already expressed his willingness to sign for Spurs after his current club, Real Zaragoza, accepted a bid in the region of £7m for the 29-year-old Argentina international.
With Berbatov now likely to move to either Barcelona or Manchester United, Spurs have moved a step closer to completing the deal.

Other sources have this double signing at nearer £28m and that still seems a fair price for two top captures. Both have been linked with moves to White Hart Lane before, but now it appears they are nearing a move. Clearly this is all pending one or possibly both Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov leaving the club. Milito is an excellent hitman and Arshavin can provide the ammunition, so if they do come to the club, they will greatly compensate for the loss the club endure. Do Tottenham fans think that this duo will make up for losing Berbs or Keane?
