Blackburn take a punt on Tottenham keeper - Aston Villa snap up his predecessor
by stresster on July 25th, 2008Never has there been a summer where clubs are not prepared to let players leave until they have found a suitable replacement. Sometimes it’s been the opposite, where clubs can’t buy a transfer target until they have the cash from a player sale. It all appears to have worked out for Blackburn and Aston Villa, who have landed themselves new goalkeepers ahead of the new season. Perhaps fans of the latter have more reason to be cheerful!

Paul Robinson has been much-maligned in the past twelve months, perhaps a little longer in the case of his England performances. He started last season as first choice at Tottenham and finished it sitting on the bench for several games and reportedly refusing to train. It now appears he’ll be returning to the fold at Ewood Park in a bid to kickstart his career, with the keeper expected to sign for £3 million today according to the Daily Mirror.
Blackburn boss Paul Ince will sign Paul Robinson from Spurs in a £3.5million deal today - and let Brad Friedel join Aston Villa.
Ince’s transfer negotiators finally made the breakthrough in the difficult Robinson talks as Tottenham sold their former England No.1 - and also wait to agree a fee for Blackburn’s transfer-seeking David Bentley.
Robinson will head for Lancashire today to finalise personal terms and to have his medical, but there are no signs of late snags as Ince finally gets his man.
Does this make the prospect of David Bentley signing for Spurs more likely? One thing’s for sure, Aston Villa have got a safe pair of hands in goal next term, with Brad Friedel consistently one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League over the past few seasons.

A fragile football player and someone who has shown he cares more about himself than the club he is playing for. Good riddance. We now have a professional goalie who actually knows how to command his area as opposed to a guy who waved his arms at anything close to him. See ya.

One thing I think this will reveal is this. If Robinson goes without a deal for Bentley then it will prove that all the Bentley talk has been nothing but media speculation. DL is a shrewd businessman and I do not believe that there is any way that Robbo would be let go if we still wanted somthing from Blackburn without some sort of agreement.

I’d rather have Robinson than Fridel not to say Fridel is a bad player but Robinson is younger and is English and more likely to be loyal to his new club. Fridel would be a good signing for Villa but it’d be bad if Blackburn did not rid themselves clean of the American it’s a new era for Blackburn likewise for Villa. Villa get rid of Barry, Blackburn sell Bentley they are very similar clubs.
Yes I am the REAL Micky Adams.

well said scorpion . when he was dropped he acted like a little child instead of trying to regain his place like a man. the amount of long shots that flew past him last season just showed his positioning was all wrong. goodbye robbo.

Just readiung the link at the bottom of the page, the bit about “show some bollocks and bet now”. Surely, these are on two different sites, the one about gambling and the other involving a webcam and a girl from latvia?
