Newcastle United have apparently approached Arsene about one of his centre backs and apparently Kevin Keegan’s bid was not totally rejected which will come as a surprise to many!
Newcastle have made a shock bid for Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos, increasing the growing tension between Arsene Wenger and his board over the continuing exodus of players.
The Arsenal manager was stunned when the offer of about £4million arrived on Wednesday and even more bemused when it was not rejected out of hand by the club.
Arsenal’s board will hold out for about £6m, but their willingness to consider allowing another first-team squad member to leave after four high-profile departures this summer will alarm supporters and Wenger. (Mail on Sunday)
Senderos is a much maligned player who has improved a great deal since his first foray into the first team; some would still doubt that he is player of enough stature to cement a regular first team spot at the Emirates. What is perhaps more worrying is that the Geordies weren’t told to look elsewhere. Arsenal do not have a wealth of options in central defence so unless Wenger is looking to fill the gap that would be left by the Swiss giant then it would be a very odd move to offload the 23 year old. Maybe the cash would be used to bring in a high profile centre back. There have already been rumours about William Gallas leaving the club and with the likes of Hleb, Gilberto and Flamini already gone it has been something of a trying summer for the club. However the captures of exciting talents like Nasri and Ramsey are big plusses. Do Arsenal fans think that the club can afford to sell Senderos?
