All of the latest footie news and much, much more.
As news reaches COS of yet more in the way of Anfield departures it appears that Rafa is still looking for requisite funds for big moves in the transfer market.
Rovers boss Paul Ince will pay £4m, rising to £6m, for bad-boy Pennant, ahead of the sale of David Bentley to Tottenham.
Full-back Alvaro Arbeloa also looks set to go. He wants to return to his native Spain for personal reasons and Liverpool have received a £6m bid. Andriy Voronin is wanted by a host of German clubs. (The People)
Of the three mentioned in this report I guess the player of most concern is Arbeloa who appears to be a favourite of the Merseyside faithful. The Spanish full back always seems to give his all and plays the game with a smile on his face and tends to be a no nonsense character who Rafa can depend on. However it does appear he wants to head back to his homeland and whilst £6m would come in handy I am sure Benitez would rather not sell the 25 year old. As for the likes of Pennant and Voronin I am sure that given the first whiff of reasonable bids for either the club will sell immediately as they continue to remove some deadwood from the club’s squad. Do Liverpool fans believe the club would miss Arbeloa if he was too leave of could they cope with the remaining full backs at their disposal?
