Manchester United to make £120m transfer QUARTET decision: What a collection of fine strikers!
by Mr Comfort on July 27th, 2008According to some reports Sir Alex has decided to ditch attempts to persuade Tottenham to bring down their asking price for Dimitar Berbatov and instead he has turned his attentions to a £120m quartet to ponder over.

Manchester United’s courting of Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov has been known for some time, a little too well know for those at Spurs, but their interest appears to have waned.
Today reports claim that Alex Ferguson’s row with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has made negotiations difficult. Negotiations that would be needed for the Bulgarian to move to Old Trafford as United are still some way short of Spurs’ valuation of the striker.
Ferguson is now looking to bring in either Barcelona’s Samuel Eto’o, Blackburn’s Roque Santa Cruz, Valencia’s David Villa or Lyon’s Karim Benzema instead of Berbatov. (inthenews.co.uk)
United are reportedly willing to pay Tottenham £25 million but will turn to either Barcelona’s Samuel Eto’o, who has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp, Blackburn’s Roque Santa Cruz, who is set to hold talks with new manager Paul Ince this week to clarify his future at the club, and Lyon striker Karim Benzema. (Telegraph)
Now that is a fine set of strikers to consider moving for. Clearly Sir Alex has some cash to spend and if he considers that the Berbatov move is off the table then he can do no worse than opting for a move for any of these lethal finishers. Roque Santa Cruz will probably offer the best value as he would probably run to £15m-£18m maximum, Benzema has the most potential, Villa is most on form of the lot and Samuel Eto’o is arguably the best of the lot due to sheer pedigree and consistency. Decisions decisions! Who do Manchester United fans think Sir Alex should punt for of this Quartet of fantastic talent?

I would rather have any of those four instead of Berbatov

My order would be Benzema, Villa, Eto’o, Santa Cruz….
Benzema has the most potential, is the youngest, and fits our needs best.
Villa is obviously a fantastic striker, who is in great form. But he’d be pricey, older and not a target striker like we need.
Eto’o is fantastic and I cant understand how noone has gone for him yet. He is older and has already seen his best, but he would still be a great signing.
Santa Cruz, while a solid finisher, does not fit into our system of free-flowing, interchanging attacking players…..Good striker, not for us tho…
Benzema definetly 20,fast,strong,lethal finisher and the the comparisons between him and brazilian ronaldo seem to be true both super fast skilful and wonderful finishers ,powerful to, he can be our own henry and is already a frans international....Santa - July 27th, 2008 at 8:00 pm

Wouldn’t be too keen on Eto’o. Great striker, but a bad influence in the changing room imo. No point signing Benzema, why pay a fortune for a player who we already know wants to go to Madrid? Villa, is playing great at the moment, but have my doubts about him in the Prem. Santa Cruz is the most realistic in my opinion. Prem experience and the most reasonably priced and not above playing off the bench. Rooney and Tevez will be the main two.

Agree toatally with Steve, about time someone was on the same wavelength as me, rather than all you other United ‘fans’ reading to many papers and agreeing with everything the writers are writing! Eto’o wouldnt cut it at United due to he’s attitude, Benzema is good but like Steve said he wants to go to Madrid and in a few years the Ronaldo type saga will come up again and you’ll all be slagging him off for wanting to leave! Villa had a great Euro 2008 dont get me wrong but for christ sake that was only 4 and a bit games due to he’s injury, where are Valencia in La Liga nowadays? Cant be doing that much of a good job, can he?
Santa Cruz would be the most realistic target and he is a proven goalscorer in the premiership.
But I then think it is time we started throwing youngsters in again, you can tell that Frazier Campbell will be a great addition to our first team squad.
Note to United’s newspapers supporters, start thinking with your own head.

what about klas jan huntelaar…. i think he’s the one… he’s good at headers lethal finishes great control… and plus he is always at the right place at the right time…. i think he’s much better than santa cruz
eto’o he’s alright but too expensive for a lazy striker that doesn’t move alot!! hell we hav c.ronaldo!!!

I think we have to get rid of Saha first! That is priority. I’d love Henry at the club only he’s a gooner at heart so thats a no! I can’t see Fergie coughing up for Villa or Berba but I could see Santa Cruz or even Eto’o at the club. But if I was the gaffer I wouldn’t bye a striker. Id get Sergio Ramos for right back and increase Ronaldo’s wages just to keep the fantastically talented arrogant bast*rd!

Samuel Eto’o has been linked with Utd on numerous occasions and he is a truly world class striker. A lot has been said of his disruptive attitude at Barca but that could have had something to do with the coach, he is not the only star to have had issues at Barca. Also Fergie has never had problems dealing with that type of player in fact at times its a challenge to Ferguson to bring out the best in a a player, for example Cantona, Yorke etc.

Don’t matter who you buy because without ronaldo you are nothing
Manofchest - July 28th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
There is only one striker for Man U and that is KLAAS JAN HUNTELAAR. His age is acceptable, vision, speed, reading of the game, versatility (in scoring with both feet, head - including of-course bicycle kicks) and respect of rotation turn if so required are all additional pluses

i cant belive you lot think etoo aint worth it man utd need an out and out striker etoo is the man look at his goal scoring record its amazing and he aint lazy thats for the dumbass who said that lol
Jamie Sylester - July 28th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
santa cruz aint a proven goalscorer in the prem what you lot on about just because he scored for one season that aint proven now if he has another good season this year then his proven himself
Andy, Barnsley - July 28th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Eto’o is actually the same age as berbatov and is probably better!!! I dont get all this c**p about Eto’o, since when has he suffered a dip in form, he returned from a long term injury in march, leaving two months for him to have a blip!!! TWO MONTHS AND HE’S PAST IT!!!! Before his injury he was widely regarded as the best striker in the world and we could get him for £20m, if fergie is serious about this i would be delighted!!!
