Apparently the saga of this La Liga star is back on the agenda as Juande Ramos apparently seeks to replace his outgoing strikers with one hell of a lethal finisher!
According to reports, Spurs manager Juande Ramos is hoping to capture Villa, top scorer in the recent European Championships, as Liverpool close in on the signing of Robbie Keane, while speculation continues to link Dimitar Berbatov with a move away from White Hart Lane.
But with Real’s attempts to sign Cristiano Ronaldo looking increasingly forlorn, the Spanish champions have turned their attention to Villa.
The chances of Villa leaving cash-strapped Valencia increased this week when Vicente Soriano, who has just taken control of the club, said: “We cannot assure people that we will not have to sell one of our stars.” (Sunday Telegraph)
£28m David Villa is of course a different kettle of fish to both Keane and Berbatov but I think it’s fair to say that the Spaniard could indeed offer more than both in terms of fulfilling the role of a lethal finisher with great vision and ability. Many reports suggest that Ramos is looking to play just the one man up front a role that may or may not suit the Valencia man. Spurs fans can rightly feel aggrieved but the somewhat disloyal reaction of both players to possible moves away from White Hart Lane. It is looking increasingly likely that Robbie will leave and Dimitar may well follow and JR will have to produce some more excellent signings of the quality of Modric and Giovani in order to replace them, if they manage to snare Villa then that will be quite a coup. How do Tottenham fans feel about the very real prospect of starting the season minus their two prized assets?
