Liverpool complete £20m DREAM signing: Could be the signing that leads to the title!
by Mr Comfort on July 28th, 2008So it’s a done deal, this Tottenham man has apparently left White Hart Lane to pursue what has been deemed a dream move by the source below.
Don’t forget to check out Online Football Manager!
Spurs star Keane arrives at Anfield to complete his dream move to Liverpool
Liverpool should complete the £18million signing of Tottenham’s Robbie Keane within the next 24 hours.
It is understood the Republic of Ireland international has undergone a medical today.
If there are no problems with the tests, Keane may even be able to fly to Spain tomorrow with the Liverpool squad ahead of Wednesday’s friendly against Villarreal.
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez completed the finals stages of negations with the Tottenham striker over the weekend, with the fee likely to rise to £20million with add-ons.
The full medical reports usually take 24 hours to complete, but Liverpool are believed to be confident that there will be no problems with the 28-year-old.
Keane is expected to sign a five-year deal worth around £80,000 per week to join the club he has supported since boyhood. (Daily Mail)
We have all probably seen the photos of Robbie at Melwood arriving for his medical, and apparently the deal will be done very soon. Clearly, Rafa is looking to sell some players to fund the move, but appears to have done the hard part first by stumping up the cash for the Irishman. The teaming up of Keane and Torres could really work wonders, and this could signal the completion of additions to the Anfield squad, give or take maybe one wide player. How do Liverpool fans feel about their soon-to-be-new signing?

Now we have Keane one wide player and that should be it for the summer. Sell Pennant, Benayoun, Arbeloa (he seems to want to go back home), Itandje, Voronin, and then we should have some cash to spend.
siddharth - July 28th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
this is a fantastic signing….torres’ class n robbie’s premier league experience will work wonders….keane has never let down his side till date…and the kind of support that he will get at liverpool from stevie g hopefulle alonso and babbel will bring much more out of him…now hopefully rafa will get silva and rafinha…it will make liverpool a complete side…kop for life
kamster - July 28th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Fantastic signing, passion, pride and ability…. Bit of deadwood to go - Pennant £6m, Voronin £3m, Itanje for £2m, Arbeloa for £6m (reported) = £17m + £5 that Rafa has got left - Rafinha in for £4m and David Silva £18m. Come on you Reds……….. Take back our title and keep it with pride. In Rafa we trust. Watch out for Nemeth this year this boy is awesome.

Far too much money for a mediocre player and he is 28 ! For another 3 million we could have signed Villa much better player and world class which is what we need not mediocre which we have enough of.
bill - July 28th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Pennant 6 million your having a laugh, good player Keane but 20 million i bet you Ramos is chuckling all the way to the bank.
LFC - July 28th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
How can we pay that much for a player who at best will only give us 2 years . Fingers crossed though but i have a bad feeling about this one
mj-lfc - July 28th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
robbie keane is not mediocre - especially not in the premiership.
he’s the most proven striker in the premiership to date
hes a great player who i personally cant wait to see him in a red shirt.
him and torres will work wonders upfront.
david villa would easily cost an extra 10 million, sure david villa would of been an unbelivebale signing and i would be gutted if i seen him playing for any other premiership side next year, but i dont think i will.
personally i think we should drop the barry thing because A.V are trying to basically rip us of, i would target winger, likes of david silva we could get him for round about the same money as what we might pay for barry.
still i think there will be a lot more action from lpool in the transfer market with players goin out and players coming in.
this is the team i would personally love to see next year and i think would make us real title contenders…
reina
degen carragher agger aureilio (dont really rate dossena, yet)
alonso mascherano
gerrard
keane silva
torres
i expect babel to play a big part as well
what do use think?
tomlfc - July 28th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
GREAT SIGNING BUT IT WILL LEAVE SPURS 19 - 20 MIL TO SPEND ON SOME GREAT PLAYERS LIKE DAVID VILLA OR DAVID SILVA AND EVEN SANTA CRUZ BUT KEANE SHOULD BE A AWESOME PLAYER NEXT SEASON!!!

Haha spurs are laughing all the way to the bank. Rafa will have another poor season as he constantly buys lots of average players rather than adding 2 players who have real quality.
Liverpool are seriously short on the wide areas and that is what all great teams need when they win a title. Be lucky to get 4th place this year especially if gerrard or Torres is injured.
Win the league? They have no chance with the current set up, sorry. Man u all the way

We have just paid £20m for a £5m player.
Rafa what have you done ?
Have you not heard of David Silva and David Villa ?
Every other Spaniard has you idiot !
If l has known before I renewed my season ticket I would not have bothered ! Robbie “10 goals a year” Keane is gobshite ! Propa Gutted ! I hope Keane brakes his legs in 4 places against Rangers and never plays again !
what a waste of time effort and money, we could have got Villa for £5m more !

i keep hearing two things that are pissing me off, firstly robbie is only a 10 goal a season player, are ye fucking retarded for the last two seasons hes scored 20+ goals and secondly i keep hearing david villa is a better player, if hes such a better player than robbie why did he score less goals an contribute less assists than robbie in a league that supposed to be second to the epl and by the way robbie has proved hes a class player every season and the only reason that hes seen as average is beacause hes irish, if he was spanish yed be saying he was fucking brllant
Guy - July 29th, 2008 at 1:23 am
Robbie is class and will be a great signing. Here’s to 50+ goals from are strikers alone, cheers.
Liverpres - July 29th, 2008 at 3:51 am
David Villa barely rated a mention before Euros - scored in two games and now he is some kind of amazing player? Keane is exactly what we need you Villa-loving twits - EPL proven (15 goals and 7 assists last season) and consistent. David Villa is NOT COMING so move on or support another team.

I think Keane is a top level Premiership starter. Benayoun was only first class for bottom half finish Hammers and Voronin has not proved to be the amazing buy from Bayern Leverkeusen that Berbatov was. Benayoun was actually quite terrible. We should sell off those two mentioned along with Pennant, Itandjie, Finnan, and Hyppia (age). I agree that Rafinha would work wonders for the Reds, (Degen is not yet Premiership quality). PS I think that Liverpool would benefit by snatching up Arshavin much more than Silva. He’s cheaper and a harder working player. Anybody who doesn’t agree, just look at Arshavin’s performance in the Russia v. Netherlands game. The pool should also think about buying Pavulyuchenko and Zhirkov.
JYA - July 29th, 2008 at 6:57 am
I think Keane is a very good player. We need good opportunist like him.
I always admire him and at times hated the man as he has scored and caused the Reds troubles often. Now that he is with the Reds all I can wish him is goodluck and give the best he has so as to help Reds win the title.
Reds for Ever!

Robbie Keane’s Liverpool song:
Use melody of “Fields of Athenry”
All hail, the boy called Robbie Keane,
He once played for an average London team,
We signed him for the reds,
He can’t be stopped by your defence,
The keane to end all keanos, is Robbie Keane.

think Keane/Torres partnership is gonna be a mighty strikeforce.
..but, disappointed the way pool have done business this summer.
think the new regime has soured the good name of liverpool fc.
always had an affection for the pool, the last REAL football CLUB, alas..
looks like pool are headin the way of Chelski & manure.
enjoy robbie, but what was the real price ?
..when did liverpool fc ever do business this way ?
COYS !
Gibbons the hoop - July 29th, 2008 at 8:03 am
Rafa has just made a more mobile Keane Berba partnership. Keanes got the intellagence, skill, pace and mobility and Torres has pretty much got everything except intellegence. works well if you ask me. But myself i see Keane as a wonderful attacking mid or a shdow striker. Dont kno why maybe cause he has amazin vision and percision. Great signing.
Gibbons the hoop - July 29th, 2008 at 8:05 am

bit of an over reaction here! “£20m DREAM signing: Could be the signing that leads to the title!” are you kidding me!? like most spurs fans i really liked keane but i can promise you he wont bring the title to liverpool. keane plays well when he is the key man in the team and everything goes through him which will never happen at pool so id put money on him to struggle for quite some time before he finds his feet. good luck to him tho
david elnino 7 - July 29th, 2008 at 9:28 am
great signing, but still short of a WINGER and/or BARRY to really challenge for the title. i can only get 8 top class names on our starting team sheet for away to sunderland with macherano and babel away.

To all you Robbie haters and non raters, Keane has scored 20 in 2006/7 23 in 2007/2008 in an average team. Now how can anyone rate him as a 5 or 10 million pound player. If Tevez cost 35 then Robbie is a bragain. Thats todays rate, all players cost too much these days. As for not going for Villa, well you could add on 10 million onto the price plus he has never played in England unlike Keane who is proven, yes proven as a great player. He has heart and guts and buckets of skill plus international experience and a hunger to win. Himself and Torres could end up being the best in the business together. I think Rafa has been very clever here, he wants the title now not in a year or two as he hasn’t go that kinda time on his side. I Rafa we tust, and for fucks sake get behind the team lads. YNWA
stevey - July 29th, 2008 at 11:09 am
wow thats one expensive 28 year old substitute you’ve just bought there. what is it with benitez and buying mediocre players for unbelievable prices? already in debt and you go spend 20.3m on robbie keane hahahahahahah oh dear oh dear how the mighty WILL fall. spurs fans must be extatic with this one. from villa to keane, bit of a mis-match that one
ROBBIE NO:7 - July 29th, 2008 at 11:27 am
i hate the way these hyprocrite spurs fans go on about how liverpool have soured there name latley YOUS TAPPED UP RAMOS FOR MONTHS just because yous are a bunch of sour mid table loosers stop trying to give liverpool a bad name it just makes yous look worse
LFC Fan - July 29th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Stevey are you thick? How you can say Robbie Keane is meiocre is beyond comprehension. He won’t sit on the bench, he suits the style of Liverpool play and will score at least 15 goals this coming season. And with regards to Rafa buying mediocre players, Babel, Mascherano, Torres, Alonso, Reine…..all mediocre aren’t they! Get a grip.
All managers make bad signings, just as Rafa has, E.G. Mourinho: Kezman, Pizarro, SWP etc, Fergie: That crap scottish winger, Taibi, Bosnic, Blanc, Forlan etc. Rafa has made some also, Benayoun, Intjande, Morientes etc. It’s part of football, and it will always be the case. Get a life, Keane is top quality, yes he’s not a Villa or an Eto’o, but he suits our style of play and he will score plenty of goals, and with another addition, hopefully Silva (oh no wait he’s probably crap and over rated too isn’t he), we’ll get something like a decent challenge for the title this year.
LFC Fan - July 29th, 2008 at 11:37 am
James, Arshavin has a £24m price tag, and Silva will go for £20m max! So I think your maths may be wrong somewhere! Also, if you are going off Euro 2008 performances to judge players, then look at how Arshavin played in the semi vs. Spain - he was totally outclassed and was basically anonymous and didn’t create a thing for Russia.
Silva was a constant threat for Spain, and looks a lot more consistent than Arshavin. Silva would be perfect option for the men in Red, he’s awesome.
hags - July 29th, 2008 at 11:38 am
WELL……..keane at 28 is no criteria cas if we win the league twice we wudav earned 200mil…a looot more …good buy …now one more world clas winger and we can play 4 1 3 11……… wow..cmon livi!!!!!
David Villa - July 29th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
fuck off stevey go onto your own club news - and keane is not going to be a substitute
stevey - July 29th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
hahaha hit a a nerve there have i? keane will not score 15 goals this season, he will be lucky to bag 10. say what you like about how good you think he is but tell me is 20.3 million a good deal for a 28 year old who will play one ok game in every 3 matches? no. wasted money again by the mighty liverpool
stevey - July 29th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
lfc fan no silva isnt shit but thats the exact reason as to why he wont join liverpool coz benitez is to thick to actually sign someone who will improve the team.
yiddoooooooooooo - July 29th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Spot on Stevey. how happy is the one man team going to be when he only plays 40% of your matches?
david elnino 7 - July 29th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
lets get behind rafa for this season if u are a true liverpool fan. Then if he fails for the season, u can start ur slabbering and ask him to move on. this is a decisive year, lets hope he and L.F.C. can do it, win some silverware and push for the league title.
Ciaran - July 29th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
Stevey great to hear your optomisum for the coming season. I bet you go home and play footie manager and win the league with the best players from the most recent competions. Robbie didn’t play in the Euro’s hence there was no media hype around him… You don’t have a clue about fotball if you reckon Keane is a bad signing, he spent six seasons at Spurs scored over 100 goals in all competions assiting a huge amount also. To those who thnk 20 mill for a EPL proven 28 year old is bad business look at the Veron transfer to United, I reckon he cost 30 mill and he was in his mid to late 20’s or the Sheva case, 31 mill for a 30 year old… considering we got a proven great player at his prime for 10 mill less we got a great deal.
Spurs fans and sour grpes go hand in hand!
In Rafa I trust….

i respect your opinion ciaran and reckon keane can be a good signing
but ur facts dont support your argument
you mentioned two similar aged players who cost a lot of money who did sweet F.A for their teams
these facts seem to suggest a trend of buying old players for large amounts of money doesnt work
i do agree that keane could be a good signing but rafa has payed too much
SUPP - July 29th, 2008 at 1:32 pm

Sorry ciaran but your wrong, as a spurs season ticket holder i can tell u that your not quite getting the amazing player you obviously think you are. Keane trys hard and looks good next to berba but who wouldnt? 20 million is brilliant for spurs and rafa has just shot himself in the foot.

Ciaran - July 29th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Well I reckon we got a good deal for Keane regardless, only time will tell if I am right about his signing or if the masses come through as being correct… It will be interesting to see how well Berba does with Totneham now that Keane has left an it will twice as interesting to see how well Keano does with us, now he doesn’t have Berba…
Ciaran - July 29th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Oh I am not saying we are the complete team cause we signed him, I am saying he is a very good buy for us and most people writing on this don’t agree with me which is just fine, you have your opions, I will have mine
david elnino 7 - July 29th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
THERE is soo much hating going on here, id guess mainly from spurs fans. robbie keane is a great professional, a very creative footballer who scores goals, who spent 6 great years at spurs and wants one big last move to the team he supported all his life, whats the problem with that. give it a rest all u haters and moaners out there.
yiddoooooooo - July 29th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
53 david elnino 7 - its all started from many of the liverpool fans who give it large talking like keane is the new messiah, a few yids have gone over board and had a go for no reason but those of us who no what we are talking about we have to back up the argument that your getting a very average player who was made to look good by other certain players players! (berba) if keane isnt treated as your talisman then he wont perform to a high standard e.g the 6 games at inter where he was in way over his head. keane needs a big man to play one twos with and that is definitely not torres style so it will be interesting to see how they get on
david elnino 7 - July 29th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
time will tell. the real reason he left inter milan was they changed managers, and plus he was much younger and less experienced then. we are getting keane at his peak, and i personally believe he will work very well just behind torres, but time will tell who is right.intelligent triangles between….torres, keane and gerrard have the potential to tear apart defences.
