Sir Alex has apparently given up on Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov, and has instead apparently been considering a rather surprising alternative!
SIR ALEX FERGUSON is weighing up a shock £15m swoop to sign Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
The Manchester United boss has been forced to look at other strikers after being blocked so far in his attempts to sign Dimitar Berbatov.
And ex-Arsenal star Henry is one of those near the top of his list. Ferguson believes the Barcelona forward could do a similar job to Berbatov, leading the line at Old Trafford in a role which would release Wayne Rooney from his shackles. (Daily Star)
This could very well be a very clever move. I’m not sure if Barcelona would consider selling, but if Manchester United pulled off this coup, it would be an incredible addition to what is already a hugely impressive strikeforce. I guess many would wonder at the likelihood of the Frenchman coming back to the Premier League and playing for anyone other than Arsenal, but stranger things have happened.
Whilst Henry didn’t have the best of seasons in La Liga, he clearly has some great years still left in the tank. Of course there is an argument for wondering why Ferguson is even looking for another top level striker? After all, he has the excellent pairing of Rooney and Tevez and would probably only need some more support rather than a big name player, especially when you consider the likes of Fraizer Campbell coming through the ranks. Would United fans welcome TH14 to Old Trafford?
