Hull City pick up Tottenham AND Everton reject - anyone think this is a good idea?
by Dexter on July 29th, 2008Hull City obviously recognise that they need to strengthen up their defence for the test ahead in the Premier League, but they may want to re-think their transfer targets. Hull are set to nab Spurs reject Anthony Gardner, the man who was shipped out to Everton, but couldn’t get a game there either!
Derby’s damp squib of a season last year served as a warning to all Premier League newcomers that if they didn’t buy wisely, they might “do a Derby” and end up relegated and stripped of all vestiges of pride and self-respect. All of which makes us wonder why Hull are after Anthony “Bambi” Gardner…
Centre-back Anthony Gardner is set to leave Tottenham for Premier League newcomers Hull, and he is determined to enjoy regular first-team football.
He said: “I had to think about the direction that my career was going in. I wasn’t playing at Tottenham and then didn’t get the chance on loan at Everton either. I needed to come out and play football.” (Independent)
Is Gardner really the type of defender Hull should be getting?

Gardner will be a superb signing for Hull. A few years ago he was close to a England call up. Once he get’s a good run in the team he’s gonna prove the sceptics wrong….

I thought he got an England cap? He is a very good defender but a run of injurys ment he dropped in the pecking order at spurs, this was compounded by the merryy go round of managers at the club too.
If hull can keep him fit and play him week in week out he will do a sterling job for them and i’m sure they will have no hesitation in payingth £2.5mil to keep him in January.
All in all, a great signing for Hull, a club needing to improve to avoid being the next Derby and a great move for Gardener, a player who needs week in week out footie to get back to being as good as he was.
If you dont belive me ask Barmby!
