Spurs chasing TWO fantastic strikers to fill the hole left by former Irish ace: Which is the better option?
by offsidetrap on July 29th, 2008Well Juande Ramos isn’t wasting any time getting back into the transfer race after watching Robbie Keane leave the club yesterday for Liverpool. Apparently Spurs are already hot on the heels of two fantastic strike options to pair with Berbatov and Bent this season.
Tottenham want striker Roman Pavlyuchenko but have had a £10m bid rejected by Spartak Moscow. The London side is also confident of signing Real Zaragoza striker Diego Milito, who would cost around £8m. (Daily Mirror)
Whilst the Pavlyuchenko bid was rejected by Spartak, I don’t think this is an indication that a deal won’t get done. Juande has a funds surplus that he’s surely going to use on some real quality targets, and if Pavlyuchenko really is on the top of his list, then I’m sure you’ll see the club make an offer that the Russian club can’t resist.
Milito, on the other hand, has been on the Tottenham radar for some time now. The Zaragoza striker, as of January 2008, was averaging better than a goal every two games! I’m sure there are a whole load of Spurs supporters that would love to see that goal per game average come to White Hart Lane.
So who would Spurs supporters rather have if you had to pick just ONE of the above strikers? Do you think the club should be using the new funds on another striker? Or should they be going after a new winger?

Spurs Forever - July 29th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
I would pick Pav every time, not so keen on Milito. Bently must not join waste of money, give Sevilla what they want for Capel and sign Santa Cruz, they would be two signings that would enhance the club. Give the boy Pekhart ago, he looks a bit special.

Think it looks like Ramos is keen to play 4-2-3-1/ 4-1-4-1 with a couple of MF free to roam the pitch as long as they put the graft in as well as support the lone ST. It looks like Modric, Lennon, Dos Santos and Bentley if he signs would all compete for the 3 spots behind the ST whilst Bent, Berba and probably 1 more will come in to compete for that role. Obviously I dont expect Ramos to go with this type of formation every game but it seemed to work well against the carrot cruncherss last night.
Spurs - July 29th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
we dont need them, spurs xi 3-0 up already against aldershot, peckhert and barcham are the future not to mention rose. give the young guns a chance
Spur'd On - July 29th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
dos Santos and Bent up front doesn’t sound like a bad idea after Bent’s wonderful performance against Norwich. I say we get one more striker, and a DM and/or some dependable cover in the back four and we should be good to go.
Ben - July 29th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Look DAVID VILLA WANTS TO COME TO SPURS. The 2 above players are overrated. Pavlyuchenko missed sitters at the Euros and Milito is a worse version of keane. VILLA and BENT for partnership. OPEN YOUR EYES!
Plymouth Yid - July 29th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
I am still wishing that we get a dominant midfield enforcer. Personally not sure about Bentley but will give him a fair chance. Us Spurs fans unfortunately don’t give players a chance. If they play a couple of games badly then we get on their backs and they never get our support. I would like to see some youngsters but if they were to play in the Carling Cup for example and we get knocked out Ramos would be slated for playing the youngsters. Thats the type of fans most of us are!!!
Cumbria Yid - July 29th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
I would quite fancy selling berbs and getting david guiza to compete with bent and having peckhart as back up! Think ramos will surprise us with who he brings in tho!
KEANO!!!!!!!!! - July 29th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
you may as well play the first team in carling cup cos you cant win fu*k all else SMALL TIME CLUB

bradley coomes - July 29th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
some good news bentley is half way to being a spurs player
davy41 - July 29th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Villa not coming to spurs ,we are just being used to up the price and all this i like the way they play under Ramos is rubbish its all a ploy to get a move to madrid.Get veloso or albelda for CM then get Santa for a sweet xmas and new year plus Arshavin thus giving us Gomes Hutton King Woodgate Bale Veloso Modric these two holding then Arshavin Santos Lennon and Bent or Santa as lone striker what a team with jenas huddlestone tarrabt or however you spell his name and pekhart all to back up or come in .
Scorpion - July 29th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Villa overrated especially at the price they want. He’s also not suited to the lone striker role. He’s more a Spanish version of Owen, which is not a bad thing, but the system Ramos wants to play suits Pavlyuchenko to a tee. Whoever said he missed sitters basis that on one game. His stats say differently and he is a player, at 26, on the rise. I say get him, keep Bent and we have Dos Santos and Peckhart that can play up front plus a horde of attacking midfielders if we get Capel and Bentley.

Is this from The Secret Diary of Keano!!!! aged 8 1/2??? Go and ask your carer when to use capitals(usually at the start of a sentence) and they might tell you printing words in capitals is the e-equivalent of shouting. Obviously you ego is a huge multiple of your IQ Keano. You can read this tomorrow if it’s after your bedtime.
spurfect one - July 29th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
pekhart looks the real deal will be great for us in the future.
Borat - July 29th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
As this site like things done in 6 words, here they are:
VILLA ,VILLA, VILLA, HUNTELAAR, HUNTELAAR ,HUNTELAAR
Spurt - July 29th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Agree with Scorpion, not only will Villa cost an arm and a leg, I think he might get isolated up front, as his is not a power game! Get Pavlyuchenko, 1st choice, rotate with Bent & Pekhart (& Berbatov, if still there).
Then please concentrate on cover at back. Must say I did like Gunter last night.
Scorpion - July 29th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
The brass at Cardiff say Gunter has a better future than Bale. They lament at letting him go for “just” 3M and say he has huge upside. Strong praise for an 18 year old. Apparently he is touted as a future CD as his best position. All this is repeat stuff because I haven’t seen him play much but he sure looked the business last night.
Bristol Spurs - July 29th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
We need Pav AND Milito.
As well as a left wing (Capel).
Still concerned about defensive cover, unless Gunter develops quickly.
hotspurs 61 - July 29th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Not Villa. GO for Aquero or Santa Cruz , M/F R de la Red ,Veloso,
Albelda, with Hudd, Bostock ,sell Zokora and Jenas. Veloso, Gunter can cover C/B would also like Capel Arshavin
jon - July 29th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
david villa every tymworld class and also santa cruz
joe - July 29th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
david villa my first choice but he wont come to spurs so it must be huntellar milito is too old i would not pay 8 to 9 mill for a player of 29 unless he can get us into the champions league blackburn wont let cruz leave arshavin too expensive pavluchenko maybe berba is going bentley coming hope for capel as well we need some extra defenders for cover cos king woodgate hutton and bale all injury prone
Chris Waddle's Mullet - July 29th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
For me it has to be Arshavin. He is perfect to play off a central striker and has genuinely looked a WORLD class talent every time I have seen him play. He is the sort of player that could turn us from mediocre to more than that. A risk I grant you but opportunies to sign players of this ability as a non Champions League club are few and far between and we should grab it with both hands.

some thoughts on the keane transfer from a LFC perspective. any thoughts for the blog?
he’s a legend at tottenham but for £19m you’ve done more than well financially.

Wally - July 30th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
If modric, dos santos, arsharvin and bentley all stood on eachothers shoulders they still wouldn’t be much taller than shaun wright-phillips. The spuds are gunna be so lightweight next season they will struggle against the blackburns and boltons nevermind the other 9 sides that finished above you last season. I also love it how after putting 4 past norwich, bent has gone from zero to hero. You all know he’s average, and you were all saying how average he was not 3 months ago. Delirious doesnt even begin to describe the yids
Wally - July 30th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
go smell ya mum……gooner
Wally - July 30th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
I’ll take your insolent, thoughtless comeback as a sign i’ve touched a nerve. You ALL know that you ALL slated bent, and ALL got down on your knees for Keane and Berbatov. You’re only lying to yourself
sean - July 30th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Pavlyuchenko as competition for Bent in the lone striker role. Okay, I suppose, but it would be a bit of a risk as he will be coming to a different country (it’s always a risk), and I actually think Bent could nail this role. As Pekhart would be a perfect understudy for bent, and happy to bide his time on the bench (somethingI am not sure Pavly would be hapy to do), I think money could be better spent elsewhere.
As for Milito; I would rather have Pavly as competition for Bent in the lone striker’s role; I would rather have Arshavin/Modric/jenas, for the central attacking portion of the 4-5-1, and, at that age - no. maybe he would have been a good buy 5 years ago - now, I can’t see him being anything but a stop-gap bench warmer.
johnny - July 30th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
I THINK THE IDEAL LINE UP FOR SPURS IS THE 5-3-2
WITH 3 CLOSE IN THE MIDDLE AND BALE AND HUTTON CAN RUN UP AND DOWN THE FLANK FREELY AND 3 SOLID CENTRAL DEFENDERS TO COVER UP WHILE BERBA AND BENT SCORE UP FRONT. WHAT DO U THINK BOUT THIS FORMATION?
SPUDS SMELL OF OLD UNDERPANTS - July 31st, 2008 at 1:52 am
