Manchester City have made a £6m offer for Yossi Benayoun, all but ending West Ham’s hopes of re-signing the Israel midfielder.
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez must sell before making another bid for Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry, and the opportunity of a £1m profit on Benayoun could be too good to reject.
Benitez said: ‘We’re still trying to sign players, and if we have to sell someone we will do so.’
Hammers boss Alan Curbishley asked about Benayoun but is unlikely to match City’s bid. (Daily Mail)
Yossi had a better-than-average first season at Anfield, but you can understand why Rafa may consider selling the Israeli to balance the books. Although Benayoun is clearly a class above being just a squad player, he will always struggle to secure a regular place at Liverpool, and therefore a move to Manchester City may suit all parties down to the ground. To be honest, I think that Benitez could probably get even more for the midfielder, but circumstances may dictate that the Spaniard needs money urgently to fund one last foray into the transfer market. Do Liverpool fans think that the club should cash in on the intelligent quick-thinking former Hammer?

Youssi is def a good squad player maybe not good enough for our first team but he is a clever and adaptable player who scores goals. We should offload Voronin, Kuyt and Pennant and bring in David Silva!!!!

33 mil for the lot (throw in voronin for free lol)
alonso - 16 mil
pennant - 6 mil
kuyt - 10 mil
finnan - 1 mil
keep yossi, he is back-up and has a bit of quality, what the other top 4 have plenty of.
what we need is a left footed winger with ability. Sell pennant, finnan, voronin, hyypia(1 mil - too old now) and a few reserves eg leto, insua and use all the money on someone like silva.

What would be the fuckin point in sellin Yossi for £6mil? He scored 11 goals last season despite being used mainly as a squad player..Now if Nani had scored 11 for United, Walcott scored that many for Arsenal or SWP scored 11 for Chelsea we’d all be wishing we had them in our squad yet theres talk of gettin rid of a player who does do it…Id like us to hava better player then him for a starting role but there aint many players about who are better squad players

I can not beleive we signed Robbie “10 goals a year” Keane for £20m should have paid no more than £10m. But the joke of the summer so far is £30m+ for Tevez L O L !

Well, Villa have said that they are now keeping Barry for themselves as supposedly the deadline of the transfer has passed. Good news for Reds fans, now we can just keep Benayoun and Pennant and Finnan for some depth and hopefully get rid of Voronin anyway.

yossi has done nothin but prove that he is a qualitiy player,he scores goals,skins players and works hard.It would be utterly stupid to sell him 4 6mill,city seem like there on the up aswel,prehaps knocking on the door,it would be like selling alonso to arsenal,,,,,,why would u do that?

All afternoon been hearing a rumour in our dealing room that the Barry transfer was going ahead. Then we heard that the club had been contacted from the States and the deal was off. Not just Barry but no new players into Liverpool until at least three curently on the books are out. Following the Keane transfer there is NO money.

Bill, you have got to be kidding me, Alonso is worth a minimum of 12mil, Pennant is worth around 5mil, Finnan is still worth around 1.5-2 and Kuyt if you look at his form at the back end of the season and during Euros, he is worth 15 easy. He was one of Holland’s best players, and Rafa wouldn’t let him go. He is too valuablet to Rafa’s plans. I like Alonso, but you can see why Rafa is letting him go, we’ve got Lucas who is an excellent passer, Gerrard who is an excellent passer, Masch and Plessis who are pretty handy as well.

Ah shame on you Rafa,everyone can see…you need money,now they will give you less for what you looking for,Keane at 20?Should’ve been 8-12,but everyone makes mistakes,besides you went on a spree and look,for example Vornin,waste of money but you need to move on to quality now,not name brands, cos you need quality to compete in the top flight!!!

liverpool can still get barry if he still wants 2 go he can put in a transfer request and that will knock about 3 million off his transfer tag
