So, Keane has gone, but Juande has wasted no time in spending the cash on this Blackburn Rovers winger.
David Bentley is expected to have a medical at White Hart Lane on Wednesday morning before becoming Juande Ramos’s ninth signing at Tottenham.
Blackburn chairman John Williams confirmed on Tuesday that the club were in negotiations with Spurs, who are understood to have upped their bid to around £15million plus add-ons.
Ramos is wasting no time spending the £19m raised from the sale of striker Robbie Keane to Liverpool as he gives his attacking options an overhaul.
The Spaniard has already signed Croatia playmaker Luka Modric from Dinamo Zagreb and talented Mexico forward Giovani dos Santos from Barcelona. England starlet John Bostock, meanwhile, joined from Crystal Palace.
A bid in excess of £15m for 23-year-old England winger Bentley would take Ramos’s spending to more than £65m since he took over from Martin Jol seven months ago. (Daily Mail)
Apparently those add-ons could bring the total fee for this England man to around £17m, which some may think is a little much to pay for the former Arsenal man. However, Bentley does show signs of being able to up his game and help push Spurs towards that crucial top four spot.
Ramos hasn’t finished spending either! He is clearly keen to add to his already impressive squad, now that he has lost one of his top performers, and could well lose another in the form of Dimitar Berbatov. The Spaniard knows the level of player to help the club grow and, if he thinks Bentley is such a player, then who are we to argue? After all, look at how far JR took Sevilla in La Liga and he will be hoping to do likewise with the White Hart Lane outfit. Do Tottenham fans rate the England international?
