While many of us are speculating (wildly as usual) whether Tottenham can finish in the top four next season (the top half would be a good start), others are setting their sights much higher. That includes one of Spurs’ summer recruits, who goes by the name of Heurelho Gomes, and clearly needs the ambition kicking out of him at White Hart Lane.
Indeed, it’s perhaps only one of the new signings that could make the below kind of utterance, with other members of the squad all-too aware of the shocking start they endured last season, when defeat at Sunderland was followed by defeat at home to Everton. Not to mention playing Fulham off the park at Craven Cottage, only to draw 3-3. Sky Sports reports that hasn’t stopped the former PSV shot-stopper from reaching for the stars.
“I am not thinking of just making it into the first four,” Gomes told Sky Sports News.
“I am thinking of winning, being first or second, in that range.”
“Some people might say I am aiming very high, but that has always been my thinking.
“I think as a champion and I want to win.”
Perhaps he’d be better sticking to tiddlywinks if he wants to be victorious this season. On the football pitch, it’s very much a rebuilding exercise for Juande Ramos, and no Spurs fan in their right mind expects anything other than fifth place next season, perhaps along with a concerted effort in the UEFA Cup.
