Spurs plan £34m DUO bid: Will this make up for big sales?
by Mr Comfort on July 31st, 2008According to this source, Ramos is close to securing the double swoop that should ease concerns from Tottenham fans and help replace the outgoing stars!
Don’t forget to check out Online Football Manager!
As the finishing touches were being put to the Bentley deal, Spurs were on to their next business, a £34m twin raid on Russia, with fees agreed of £19m for Arshavin and £15m for Pavlyuchenko.
Those two signings will take manager Juande Ramos’s spending through the £100m barrier since he arrived from Sevilla less than a year ago, although he has recouped a sizeable chunk of that in this summer’s outgoings. (Daily Mail)
It looks like Berbatov is likely to leave the White Hart Lane outfit. He was not included in the squad that took on and thrashed Leyton Orient last night, raising concerns that the Bulgarian’s sulking antics could well lead to the club deciding to cash in rather than to hold on to a player who is showing such a lack of respect. Pavlyuchenko could work well as the one man up front, but is unlikely to be able to partner Darren Bent who has been in sparkling form in the pre-season matches.
Arshavin would also be one hell of a capture and the type of player who could help the Spurs fans forget about their departing stars. Do Tottenham fans think that the team can adequately make up for the loss of both their top strikers?

On paper our team will be amongst the best in the world. If they can play fluently then i see no reason why we cannot win everything
spurs 81,82 - July 31st, 2008 at 7:44 pm
lol fan we will be, but im keeping my feet on the ground but i love the look of dos santos what a capture!!
markyid76 - July 31st, 2008 at 7:45 pm
yeah great
Alfieconnman - July 31st, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Arshavin has the potential to be much better than Keane and has a similar style so I regard this as improvement. Berbs is a “one off” and much harder to replace so it remains to be seen if Pav will cut the mustard.
Alfieconnman - July 31st, 2008 at 7:48 pm
I also think that Arshavin is so sexy and i cant wait to see him running about in some tiny shorts on a regular basis xxx
Spurs Dude - July 31st, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Berbs to go (unfortunately) Bent back on the bench, Arshavin down the left, Bentley down the right with Pavlyuchenko and Gio (said he wants to fill Knobbie’s place) up front SORTED!!!!!!!
goonerhater - July 31st, 2008 at 7:55 pm
when you put our team down on paper it is very exciting but a lot depends on our defence.. if king and woody can keep fit ,this could be a big season… i would love berba to stay, but wont happen.. just hope we dont sell to the mancs..in ramos we trust.
WESTHAM ABOVE SPURS LOOK AT THE TABLE - July 31st, 2008 at 7:55 pm

Scorpion - July 31st, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Spot on Spurs dude. Arshavin will drive right backs in our league nuts. That is if they haven’t already lost it trying to cover Dos Santos.
And to the Arsenal children who come on here and swear: up your skirts boys. Having a nice summer losing players while we sign up great young talent. Oh well, at least you have that antiseptic pile of rubble to play in.
SR - July 31st, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Spurs always look good “on paper”, however………..
Billiospur - July 31st, 2008 at 7:58 pm
what if berba stays?
Stevzie - July 31st, 2008 at 7:58 pm
It will be glorious. If Arsh can adapt to EPL ball quickly than berbs will be forgotten. It will be interesting to see if SAF plays him or Rooney with Tevez.
i aint gay but we should all be Bent - July 31st, 2008 at 8:02 pm
i think we need to give Bent ago up front, hes looking good in pre season and i cant see why he cant take that form into PL.
forget buying Pavlyuchenko and lets get a good DM hmmm maybe barry………
Spurdude ramos - July 31st, 2008 at 8:04 pm
OK ppl the thing so wrong about these transfers is selling berbatov. Are u spurs fans crazy BERBATOV!!!!. So he not interested in staying at tottenham make him change his mind don’t sell ur best players u already sold Jeane isn’t that enough. Transfer target are good i like both pav and arshavin but plz don’t sell BERBATOV.Come on.

if we do get these people then what will happen to bent will he become 3rd best again or will ashavin be put in midfeild any ones opion
spursmad - July 31st, 2008 at 8:06 pm
I not a proffessional manager but i dont see buying pav as a good deal. totally unproven, why cant spurs just by the players we have actually needed for a long time. such as a midfield enforcer, left winger and anouther central defender i would love woody and king to stay fit, but i cant see it happening. let me know what you guys think. ps give bent a chance for f**k sake
Paul - July 31st, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Can’t wait for Berba to go, i’m sick of hearing people stick up for him. Look at the stick Ghaly got for throwing his shirt to the ground, well at least he put it on in the first place, unlike supersulk Berbatov who clearly thinks he’s above everyone else at the club! Hope he moves to a so called bigger club and rots!!!!
spurs fan - July 31st, 2008 at 8:10 pm
was at the orient game, and all i can say is that while modric is quality, gio is just somethin else! he looks so confident on the ball and was involved in each of the 5 goals if my memory serves me correctly - and hes so young! look forward to seein bentley playin, and like the sound of us gettin arshavin an pavlychuenko - but wud am interested to see wat our best XI formation would be and who might be shipped out to accommodate it…
yidgrenade - July 31st, 2008 at 8:11 pm

why are you so bitter towards robbie keane…. do you not have anything else in your life except for hate?
robbie keane was a liverpool fan as a child and he has had the chance to fulfill that dream.
are you so bitter cos you have not been ab;e to live your dreams or are you just a bitter kind of person…

i would rather not get pav and put bent up top gio behind arshavin and bentley on the wings and modric and someone in the middle
DublinYid - July 31st, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Dos Santos Arshavin and Modric are the shining lights in this window. If we can add Capel and hopefully a decent CB, and the team gels ahead of schedule, we will run defences ragged, and keep attackers at bay.
Pace, forward thinking, strength, we will have it all. JR’s biggest challenge is to instill belief when we playe any top four team, and do whatever it takes to leave the pitch after 90 minutes with something.
Change formulas, strategies, versatility will be key. Spurs will be awesome !
TheModFather14 - July 31st, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Will this Russian invasion actually happen?!
It sounds like something i’d do on football manager!
I really hope it does, coz from what i’ve seen the two lads look insanely good.
I’m excited and a bit fearful for our beloved Tottenham next season. With all these players coming and going it can’t be that good for a settled team. I can’t help thinking that it could end up like teams before who have had to wait for a good few months for the team to settle.
In an ideal world, we’ll get off to a flyer like Manchester City last year, only unlike City, we’ll power through in the second half of the season.
I really do hope Darren Bent gets a serious go next season, he’s never had the chance to justify his astro price tag and you know he’s so hungry to get in the goals. Just what we need to replace Keane.
The Bent & Bentley connection hell bent on sending Spurs to the champions league!!
BTW , Is Pavyluchenko a 20 goal a season player?
Heraklis - July 31st, 2008 at 8:44 pm
I don’t know about Pavlyuchenko.. He strikes me as a poor-man’s Berbatov. I would’ve rather have taken a chance on Fred, Kerzhakov or Moreno (too late). All 3 are younger and cheaper too.
Bring on Arshavin!!!
davy41 - July 31st, 2008 at 8:46 pm
The only thing missing from this team is a strong holding player like Albelda or Veloso or both for the hard away games so come on Mr Levy get it sorted and finish the job .Oh and Veloso CH so if leds or Woody was injured we have a good cover.
Woody - July 31st, 2008 at 8:49 pm
doesnt anyone realise bent will be leading our attack next season
DublinYid - July 31st, 2008 at 8:49 pm
It’s great being a Yid, fan power rules !! Our day is nigh !
Woody - July 31st, 2008 at 8:54 pm
davy 41 i agree if we were to get both then we would hav also a good cover for cb in veloso who will challenge albelda for the dm position who would be a great dm for so cheap
Monty - July 31st, 2008 at 9:01 pm
If we manage to sign both the Russians then im sure we wont miss Keane or Berbs. Them two signings on top of the ones we have already made will put us in a much stronger position than the team we had last season with Keane and Berbs in it.
I think Ramos will play 4-2-3-1 formation, with Pav or Bent up front, Dos Santos, Arshavin and Bentley as attacking midfielders with Modric and either Jenas, Hudd, Bostock or Zakora in the deeper roles. Going forward that looks quite exciting, especially with the likes of Lennon coming off the bench.
Just need a experienced centre back as well though…..
Come on Mr Levy, lets get these Russians signed.
Peter Ruse - July 31st, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Bers will end up another Saha, Keane on the flanks at Liverp’l counting his extra million a year. Neither have moved for football reasons, but that is the game today.
Bers may be thinking he has made the wrong decision, Spurs on the other hand could be on the rht track at last.
Levy set his plan in place last October when he went looking for Ramos.
Come on you Spurs.

last season the top 4 they all had match winners
chelsea have lampard/drogba
liverpool have gerrard/torres
arsenal have fabergas/adebyaor
man utd have ronaldo/tevez/rooney
will tottenham’s dos santos/modric/arshavin be enough 2 supass liverpool
what manager would u rather have rafa benitez or juande ramos???

forget about Berbatov, these are exciting times for us yids.A player without passion for the shirt is a cold shit,Ramos is class trust him he knows how to build a team of winners.Give it time and reap the rewards.
Show me your Spurs - July 31st, 2008 at 10:58 pm
As long as they play Bent up front as a lone striker, I don’t mind. The last two games, although friendly’s, surely show that this new system Ramos is playing is working for him and a sign of what he can do!

Woz - July 31st, 2008 at 11:39 pm
MUCH rather see Milito than Pav but would settle for either. Hate to say it cos he’s a class act but the sooner Berbs goes the better. In this vital stage of the pre-season, morale building in this new and mostly young squad is critical and Berbs is clearly having a negative effect on that with his sulky attitude. Just hope Barca/Milan find the cash for him (i’d settle for less than £25m or even slightly less) i don’t want to see him in a manure shirt.
Arshavin really excites me, would love to see him wearing the cockerel. He’d do it proud.
Seriously hope Bent gets his chance up front with a decent run cos the boy deserves it.
Rarely, if ever been this excited pre-season. Our wings haven’t been this strong in a very long time and the addition of a strong DM, which i’m certain will happen is the one missing piece of a potentially very rewarding puzzle. Agreed, much depends of the fitness and durability of our defence, but the levels of fitness has never better, Alvarez seems to have done a sterling job.
If we sign any three of arshavin/pav/milito/albelda/veloso, i’m certain top four AND a trophy is very achievable. COYS.

Just for the record. I have plenty of love in my life thanks !!!!!
EPL Fanatic - August 1st, 2008 at 6:41 am
I am so sick of the constant bashing of former players or players that would like to enhance and play abroad and also get more experience in some instances such as Chapions League Football. One day fans love and think of their players as the best Keane, Ronaldo, Ade, Berba, Helb, Barry to name a few and now thye are hoorible, disgraceful, the worst because they want bigger and better challenges. Then there is the bashing of your own players Beckham, Lampard, Crouch, Owen, even Gerrard to name a few when they don’t get the results for the National team. Enough is enough stop being miserable and backstabbing pricks just because you are too miserable and rely everything on Football. Oh for the record you can have the best tema on paper all you want but will your Bent, Arshavin, Dos Santos will not come close to being as potent as Keane and Berba!!!!!!! Guarantee

If these two players really come then spurs will be amazing!! (if they gel that is) with modric bentley and arshavin playing behind Pavlyuchenko and berba what morwe could any manager want? This is the season the top 4 is broken!!! COYS!!!!
nick reddyoff - August 1st, 2008 at 9:16 am
I think Spur’s going forward will be great…obviously better than last season….the only concern is the defence, which was your major downfall last season. If I were Ramos I’d have forgone one of Arshavin/Modric/Dos Santos for a top quality centre half as King and Woodgate, though good, aren’t world beaters and are both quite injury prone.
All that aside though, what a team going forward!!!
edwhitewell - August 1st, 2008 at 10:16 am
Spurs still need a central defender, maybe two defensive midfielders (get rid of Zokora) such as Albelda and Veloso, and maybe a left back (get rid of Gilberto) from such players as Shorey, Adriano or Drenthe.
Jumbo - August 1st, 2008 at 10:26 am
I can forgive you yids for salivating at the prospect of all your new attacking talent, but for some of you to make daring claims such as having the potential to win everything this season, or having a world beating team on paper, is just rediculous. Its nice to be optomistic but you still have to realise that other than having, in my opinion, a top quality right back, your defence is still average, injury prone, and massively lacking in depth. Your two best centre halves are probably both European standard, but Woody being the fitter of the two is definately a level or two behind King, and do we even need to start on Ledley King? I can’t see him being a professional footballer this time next year, which would be a massive shame. Then lets look at what’s left, disaster Dawson. If you guys dropped all this silly change of personnel up top and drafted in two top quality centre halves, then I would be worried for the 09/10 season, when you’ve had time to gel.

What has Ramos won? 2 UEFA cups.
Rafa Benetiz has won: 2 La Liga Titles, UEFA cup, Champions League, FA cup.
Who had a better record in Spain?
Also, all of these new players coming to the EPL, do you think everyone settles in as fast as Torres? You spurs fans are putting a lot of belief in people that have never played a single minute in the league. Ask yourself this, if dos Santos is so good why did Barca let him go for nothing? Why did no one else try to sign Modric? Why did Arshavin decide that spurs was a place he would love to play?
Answers: Dos Santos has a bad attitude & is not as good as you or he thinks. Modric is as small as Kate Moss & will be bullied by 3/4 of the other teams CM. No one else wants Arshavin.
Great purchases. See you in the intertoto next year. Oh wait there isn’t one next year.
