If David Bentley ever needed proof how much he was rated at N5, then look no further than the £7m his former employers they are set to receive. They weren’t stupid; blissfully aware at what a talent they were losing and I’m sure despite the unexpected windfall, will be privately seething that he has moved on to their great rivals Tottenham.
You cannot blame them - Bentley has matured into a fantastic footballer, supremely confident and is the natural successor to David Beckham for England.

On a more serious note. It really is kinda depressing the lies and spin footballers and their agents spout.
Bentley felt he was too good for Blackburn and demanded a move, just like he didnt have the patience or work ethic to stay at Arsenal and fight for a place.
He obviously assumed a top team would come in for him and when none did, suddenly he was always hoping it would be spurz who signed him, even saying he was a boyhood fan. Never mind the fact that when he was younger he said he was a ManU supporter.
The guy has no class, same as the majority of modern day footballers.
He is a decent player, but never world class, a one trick pony who cannot displace a past it Beckham.

As a Gooner I must say that although the boys up the road are spending considerable amounts and have done so for a few years now; it matters little unless they become genuine contenders. the scousers have also spent so much more than us consisently over the years but this expenditure has not translated into any consistency in the league.
Arsenal have spent less and this has not translated into a wide gap between ourselves and liverpool. Unless some normality returns to the valuation of british players good players and average players but not world class players will go for huge sums and weaken england considerably as we believe but secretly hope they are better than they are. We have Downing and Cole - they have Messi.
Despite what people are saying about Arsenal and how we haven’t got enough of a British presence - the amounts english players go for is prohibitive. I think that Wenger is doing the right thing by trying to bring through young british talent through the youth system cos we can’t compete in a bidding war.
All I know is time will tell whether the bigger gamble is spending alot or not. consistency rewards the balance sheet not the other way round.
