Liverpool set for £7m move: Does Rafa need him?

Roma are in the market for a replacement for Amantino Mancini, and now it has been reported that they are looking at Liverpool’s Yossi Benayoun.
Rafael Benitez is still looking for the funds to pay for Gareth Barry, and while everyone expects a deal to be made for Xabi Alonso, Benitez is running out of time to find a buyer.
A quick deal for Benayoun would give him leverage to go back to Martin O’Neill with the full price for the England midfielder and force his hand.
West Ham were linked with him but his agent has scuppered that rumour, with Man City the favourites for the past week or so. Now Roma have decided to join the chase.
Liverpool say they have received a number of inquiries for the Israeli, but no firm offers as yet. (footylatest.com)
Yossi Benayoun has played a big role in pre-season friendlies in recent weeks, and it would seem that whilst Rafa is looking for funds to help complete further incoming transfers, the Israeli may not be as high up on his exit list as others. The likes of Itandje, Finnan, Voronin and Pennant are all also seemingly surplus to requirements but £7m rated Benayoun may help give Benitez that extra cash boost for the likes of Gareth Barry or David Silva. Do Liverpool fans think that Benayoun is a player they should consider offloading?

yes i do think that we need because who else is going to play on the wing, with babel away for the start of the season and pennant reportadely on his way out who else is their, we cant rely on kuyt and we dont want voronin and stevie G playing out there! unless he brings someone else in that is!

Pennant is good but not liverpool’s level sell him. Benoyoun isnt a first eleven player but is a strong suad player who we need throughout this up coming season. He has shown already in pre-season matches how versatile and hungry he is with solid assured performances.

If I had to choose between selling Pennant and Yossi, then the Englishman would go every time. I’m not a great Benayoun fan, but at least he’ll score goals (double figures last season) and make a few too (think Torres’ goal at Chelsea in Champ. League). Pennant, on the other hand, has only scored three times since his arrival – and one of them was a fluke! He flatters to deceive, while his crossing is hit-and-miss to say the least. Sell Pennant to Blackburn and keep Benayoun….until something better comes along anyway.

Yossi isn’t a winger, he is an attacking midfielder who can play on the wing. Much like Zenden really. Yossi is a good squad player and when a game isn’t going the way it should, has the quality to turn a game on it’s head. Keep him.

You are clueless torress, yossi was a central middy b4 he came to liverpool. He’s a top player and despite gettin hardly any games last season managed to take his goals tally into double figures. I also think his part in the away goal at chelsea was different class. Rafa wont sell yossi, he’s cleverer than that.

Dave & MatL, Yossi is not good enuff for LFC. He always cut into midfield and always choke up the gameplay. Sometimes it’s just too crowded in the middle…furthermore he is too lightweight for EPL. Same goes with Silva. Silva will be a flop if he comes to EPL.
If we can sell Yossi for 7million, why not? Especially we are getting 2 million profit.
But I totally agree with you on Voronin. I’m sure Rafa will sell Voronin IF, a big IF there is a buyer…I don’t mind having Torres-Keane-Ngog-Nemeth as our strikers come new season.

Keep Yossi. We don’t have enough goalscoring playmakers to just let them go as easily as that. He knows the Prem, he has skills, and he can offer us more options than Pennant. Whoever compared him to that useless lug Zenden needs an eye test…

Selling Yossi would be a mistake and I would be stunned if Rafa let him go. Other than Gerrard he’s the only midfielder we’ve got who knows where the goal is, and he loves the club and would be more than happy with 15 starts a season, coming off the bench the rest of the time. 7 subs next season, you can see man utd with the likes of scholes, giggs, and carrick or chelsea with shevchenko, swp, and ballack/lampard/deco on their respective benches, who are we gunna put there? Aurelio, Voronin and Pennant? Exciting, i think not

What?! Rafa is trying to sell me? I’m staying anyway, an im worth around ten mil, i got 2 hat-tricks last season and played half the games of Voronin, an i made that bit of skill and a pass to set up Fernando at the Bridge (the Shed). So look into your hearts and tell me that i should be worth more than 7mill, it would make my day.
