Yeah, I'll go along with £32M but I think Fergie is right to play hardball.
It is a huge figue, half utd's operating profit last year! Hope he comes for less than £28M but if we have to pay £32M to get him, fair enough.

Stevzie has a good thoughts there... someone mentioned re-sale value, why does ManU have to worry about that, they hardly ever sell their best players in their prime(exl.ronnie perhaps), its only the smaller clubs who sell their best players (ie Spuds)

even 32M£ is a decent price for Berbs, 20+ goals and many assists for a poor team last season (especially poor midfield) imagine what kind of figures he can reach with ManU + he has no major injury history which is rare thing...

The only real way to value a player is to look at the prices of other reasonably similar players moving clubs in the same market (ie. where english clubs are the buyers). Furthermore, this debate on age being the most important criteria (other than the player's actual ability of course) in determining the value of a player is missing another major factor - Risk.

There is less risk in signing Berbatov than, say, Nani or Andersen a year ago, because he is now proven in the Premiership over 2 seasons and so SAF can be much more confident he won't have any issues settling into the supposedly more physical style of english football. This is an area in which he has messed up before when signing south americans - witness the likes of Forlan, Kleberson, Veron etc - they were never able to adapt. Therefore, there is a premium attached to Berbatov's price when comparing to other foreign signings, namely Andersen in this case . If you're willing to pay £17m for a south american midfielder (over whom there is a degree of risk that he won't adapt) then you should be willing to pay significantly more for a striker with a proven record in the Prem. Plus the fact he is a striker not a midfielder, the position which has always commanded the highest price, pushes his fee further beyond that £17m mark. Plus add a years inflation to Andersen's 2007 transfer fee.

Given all of the above, I don't think its unreasonable to value Berbatov at £25-£28m. Man City signed a relatively unknown Brazilian striker, Jo, for £18m (an international admittedly, but unproven in the Prem). Thats the market these days. So those Man U fans who say £20m for Berbs and no more are clueless. Yes, Levy is playing a dangerous game of brinkmanship where if he pushes too hard we may end up stuck with a player who clearly doesn't want to play for us but if the club has a valuation in mind then that's it, you have to try for that value. It is a commercial enterprise after all.

Alex ferguson has got abig red dangley ballsack that looks just like his nose. Nowadays instead of the hairdryer treatment he makes the worst performing players lay on the changing room floor and teabags them one at a time.Rumours are that rooney actually enjoys this punishment hence him playing like a cnut for most of last season.

All I can say is that I hope SAF agrees with all you muppets that he's not worth £32m and tells Levy to fuck off, and then we can keep him.

Go and spend your money on that rat-faced Argentinian vampire instead.

Glad we're all agreed!

Let's let him go to Barca for considerably less. After all, I believe Levy is only making the point that we are not going to be held to ransom by teams we are closely competing with. Although the mancs of this world will disagree, the recent matches between the two sides has shown that the gap in class is certainly narrowing and...... COYS!!!
