Rafa Benitez appears to be considering a move for a former player.
Rafa Benitez could make a shock move to re-sign Antonio Barragan from Deportivo La Corunja after it was revealed that a clause was inserted into the deal that allowed Benitez to re-sign him during the summer of 2008 for a fixed fee of £1.6million.
The Kop newspaper reports that the 21-year-old right-back could make a switch back to Merseyside during the summer of 2011 instead, for a slightly more inflated fee, should Benitez opt against making a move this season.
Barragan played just 10 games last season for Depor, and the arrival of Philipp Degen makes a 2008 move unlikely, but in 3 years time he could’ve matured into a well-balanced full-back that we can snap up on the cheap. (Kop-tv.com)
The young right-back had a good first season at Deportivo, but found his first team opportunities greatly limited last term and it shows good sense to have added a buy-back clause for a player with such potential. Still just 21, he could yet mature into a good player and therefore well worth monitoring the progress of the young Spaniard. Do Liverpool fans have faith in new signing Degen and do they hope Arbeloa doesn’t leave to return to Spain?
