Arsene Wenger is apparently very keen to bring in this La Liga icon.
Arsenal’s midfield ambitions appear to extend beyond an attempt to sign the Aston Villa captain, Gareth Barry, as they prepare to increase their interest in Real Madrid’s Ruben de la Red.
Manager Arsene Wenger is determined to sign another midfielder before the start of the season, even after the acquisition of such playmakers as Samir Nasri and Aaron Ramsey, and can use the money from the sale of Alexander Hleb to meet Madrid’s £9.5 million valuation of De la Red. (Telegraph)
Ruben De la Red is a player that Wenger has been following for some time, and the Spaniard is a very good prospect. Recent reports have suggested that the midfielder, who had a successful season on loan at Getafe last term, wants to fight for his place at the Bernabeu. However, Bernd Schuster may have other ideas. There is clearly much activity at the Emirates, with Arsene reportedly looking at a number of midfielders with an eye to one last big-name signing. Do Gunners fans think that De le Red would be a wise addition?
