Better strike duo? Arsenal’s Adebayor & Van Persie or Liverpool’s Torres & Keane?
by Dexter on August 5th, 2008The Guardian today brings us news of two big reasons why Arsenal can win the title this season.
Don’t forget to check out Online Football Manager!
According to striker Robin Van Persie, his partnership with Emmanuel Adebayor (who penned a contract extension last Friday) could be one of the keys to Arsenal’s shot at the title:
“We showed [against Real Madrid] that Ade and I have a few nice combinations together.
“I think any of the top four can win the title, I am not going to say we are going to win it, because you never know - they do not know, we do not know either. [But] I hope we can do it. I am committed to win it and, if you look around, so is everyone here.” (Guardian)
So can Arsenal’s strike duo fire them to the title and will they really do better than Keane and Torres?

Torres and Van Persie would be the best, if they could play together!
ben azoa - August 5th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
ya man they will
Dex - August 5th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Tough to call, both pairings have a lot of potential and both teams have good midfield service behind them, I expect it will be down to whoever develops an understanding first but my money has to be on Torres-Keane because I believe Torres is going to benefit more from improved service this season than Adebayor.

Of the 4 Van Persie is the best. Torres may be a more prolific striker, however he is not the all round intelligent player that Robin is. I think that Van Persie and Torres would be most dangerous, however out of the two i think that Van Persie and Adebayor just edge it.

Torres and Keane will score more goals this season than the Gunners front two. Van Persie is undoubtedly talented but is not Mr Consistency in the Premiership.
The new LFC duo have bags of experience and between them scored over 50 goals last season. I think the combined effectiveness of the two is greater than their sum total. Torres already has a great understanding with Gerrard, Gerrard knows fully well how Keane plays and will forge an equally good understanding with him very quickly.
Defenders have tried to figure out how to keep Torres quiet…. and failed. They have tried to stop keane scoring…. and failed. Now they have to try and stop Torres AND Keane scoring …. and they will fail!
bookerola - August 5th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
van persie is one of the most overrated players in the league. the other 2 are in a different league.
Arsenal 6- Liv 3 - August 5th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Of corse the arsenal partnership is the best one…
Keane gonna be a big flop of the year under Rafas rotation plan!!!

Liverpool 4 Arsenal 2…. now get OUT of the european cup!

dodgy pen, pen that never was, theiving scouse scumbags. shouldnt you all be out stealing hubcaps?
Uncle Necky - August 5th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Van Persie is better than Torres?
I gaurantee if you took a straw poll of top managers, they would take torres over van persie every day of the week. Wenger would swap adeybayor and van persie for Torres alone.
Take a reality check before spouting shite.

The LFC pair will be the highest scoring front pair in the EPL.
While RVP is class, he is still a flair player who blows hot and cold. Easy to wind up and demoralise too, unlike the other 3.
How deluded the gunner above must be to believe RVP is better than Torres. Dream on.
rowan - August 5th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
RVP is a rapist and shouldn’t be allowed on the same pitch as the other 3…allegedly
RVP the Man!!!!!! - August 5th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
To be fair if RVP had not been injured last term Ades & RVP combined goal tally would of been higher than Torres and Keanes combined, RVP averaged nearly a goal every two games when he played, simular to Torres and Ades so on that basis he would of been near the 25 - 30 goal tally mark, making near on 60 goals between Ade & RVP. So for me if RVP can stay fit then RVP & Ade will be best
RAJ_THE_GOONER - August 5th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
torres won’t have as good a season as last year….back then, he was an unknown quantity… this season he’ll get a few kicks and be brought back down to earth….
on a similar note, neither will Adebayor… both played beyond expectations…

Can’t people have a normal debate without it descending into a farce?
The pair that stays fit will be the highest scorers. If they both stay fit then i would say arsenal because they create more chances.
Obviously of the four strikers RVP is the most likely to be injured so the Liverpool duo have a better chance of scoring more goals.
Leon K - August 5th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Uncle Necky did’nt Adebayor score more goals that Torres last season, obviously scoring less goals makes you better. If Torres was playing in an attack minded side like Arsenal or Utd he would be the best in the world, as it is he is playing for the most boring side in the country and will never fullfil his potential
michael - August 5th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Leon K u r da most spasticated man Ive ever heard do u even watch football get a life will ya I’m sick and tired of fella’s wit the same brain as a 10 year old blabbing on about how good there team is Dexter wat a stupid articial clearly liverpool fans will pick Torres and Keane and arsenal fan’s will pick ade and RVP if I had a choice I’d pick Torres and Keane
Greg Goon - August 5th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
PMSL @ robin the rapist lol
Your fans are all thieving gits we let you play in the prem!
back to topic you cant know until the season is over but they both have good players arsenal and liverpool.
But arsenal have much better backup than liverpool in strikers like walcott, vela, eduardo, bendtner.
torres and robbie look like a good partnership.
but adebayor and van persy are equally decent!
But shut these idiot liverpool fans up that are out stealing hub caps to make money …. PS where is your stadium GUYS>????? hahahaha
2D - August 5th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
no leon k torres scored more goals, they both scored 24 in the prem but torres scored far more in the CL and other competitions, torres scored 33 adebayor didn’t crack 30
Gaz - August 5th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Right, so they scored the same in the league, but Torres is definitely much better.
Keane’s an overrated mug. Liverpool are destined for 4th, as always. Deluded idiots.
dibbler - August 5th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
This is an obvious one for me torres is just amazing to watch but keane can be a bit wastful at times, ade is an awkward player to play against but he is no torres lets be honest and van persie is class but not prolific enough and is out for weeks at a time with a broken eye lash so in my opinion torres and keane potentially will score more this season.
mark - August 6th, 2008 at 8:00 am
torres is clearly the best player out of the 4, then it will be Van Persie(just), Keane, who has years of constantly scoring in the premier league then lastly Adebayor, not because he’s a bad player but one good half of the year doesn’t mean you are world class, frankly he shouldn’t even be considered in the same group as players like torres,Keane and Van persie
RVP the Man!!!!!! - August 6th, 2008 at 8:30 am
Mark, how can you say Keane is better than Ade when he scored 15 goals in the league and Ade scored 24! And Ade will score more than him this year, no doubt about it.
Simmeister - August 6th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Well Said Who Are Ya…Theiving Scouse Scum
BTW Ade And RVP Any Day Of The Week…
Just Watch As Long As RVP Stays Fit!
lfc - August 6th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
how can you compare ade and keane there completely different players
keane plays of the front man not with him he links the midfield and striker together.
ade is an out and out centre forward
keane will make and score goals, ade just scores them keane is a better player to have in the team
because we already have torres as the out & out striker!
sunny - August 6th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
if rvp stays fit he can outplay keane and adebayor very easily and can be even better than torres and i think ade and rvp have the edge but if we combine rvp and torres than they r the best in the league if they stay fit even better than rooney and ronaldo
