Sky Sports loudmouth reckons Tottenham’s transfers won’t make a difference this season: They aren’t top four material!

Sky Sports pundit Andy Gray has never been one to hide his feelings and opinions on the game of football. So his recent thoughts on Tottenham’s summer spending are sure to make the North London faithful feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

He said: ‘One day Spurs are going to break into the top four but I don’t see it happening this season. Selling Keane is a big gamble and Bentley apart, I am not impressed with the players they have brought in.
‘If I was a Spurs fan I would be concerned. If Dimitar Berbatov (linked with a move to Manchester United) goes I would be worried about a lack of firepower.
‘Darren Bent has been scoring a lot of goals in pre-season friendlies but he seems to find it much harder to score against the big boys.
‘I know Spurs have been linked with Arshavin but I think he has been over-hyped. I’m not a big fan of Modric either. He looks ordinary to me but I can only assume Juande Ramos knows what he is doing.’ (Daily Mail)
Ordinary, over-hyped and concerned. These are three words that come out of Gray’s mouth when talking about Tottenham’s chances this season. Whilst most would agree that Modric is a bit of a question mark for the club since he’s never played in the Premier League before, most would tend to think that maybe these comments are a bit harsh considering the season hasn’t even started yet!

This is very considerate of Andy as I recall this time last year he said we will break into the top4 and end up near relegation. TBH im not really bothered about what he says. He can say chelsea will win the league but what about manu and others…it is just BS.
But I for one want spurs to start asking questions about themselves. They are not infurior to any teams in the world, all they need is the believe to never give up. If the whole team put in 110% every game it is possible to win any game. They have to realise that its hard work.

I kinda think he is correct on 1 or 2 things, its upto modric and the boys to prove themselves and make him shut it. I do wonder though whether he is worthy because if he was he wouldnt be a simple pundit and would be more into the game than just commentating on games each weekend.

I think the main issue for Andy Gray is Berbatov (potentially) leaving. He w0uld genuinely cream his pants if Berba so much as broke into a jog. It actually made me uncomfortable to hear him (so no change there I guess). It’s strange his opinion on Modric is so out of kilter with the rest of the footballing world though. As for him being a Gooner, I’ve never felt that. I doubt Gray is a Gooner though, obviously Alan Smith, Paul Merson and the others wear their allegiances on their sleeves - but then again so does Alan Mullery

Gotta tell you this second hand story I was told by a buddy about this arrogant asshole.

I’m a Spurs fan… I completely agree with him… Modric looks good… but I can’t see him being a Gerrard/Fabregas… obviously I could be worng, obviously, I hope I’m wrong and he is as good as either of those 2 I mentioned but IMO he won’t be…
Also, I don’t think our signings are enough to take us to the top 4 either… I think Spurs fans need to start taking a bit of a reality check… firstly… let’s look at the individuals of the first team….
Gomes - looks good, untested.
Bale - World class already, I don’t think I’m overstating that, he’s an amazing player (still can’t believe we got him)
Hutton - very good right back
Woodgate - signing of last season
King - world class… but how often will he be there so that leaves Dawson… The dawson of last season is going to leave us exposed, the dawson of the season before we’ll be a fine replacement - let’s see which one we get
Bentley - Very good player
Jenas - Very good 50% of the time
Modric - looks decent, wait and see
Dos Santos - young and inexperienced, clearly talented, but some way to go
Hudd/Lennon/Zakora - all ok… Lennon and Hudd really need to push on… I know what most of you think about Zakora already
Bent - I like him… great player
Berba - he won’t be here, I’m pretty sure of that!
the individuals look good…
but for a couple of reasons they aren’t near the 4 teams we’re trying to catch…
Firstly there’s the inexperience of pretty much all of them… that’s a young team… and no champs league players there except Gomes… Woody/Dos santos have maybe played a handful between them…
secondly, there’ll be a new system amnd new team - the whole midfield and strike force have had an overhaul - we could potentially be looking at just Jenas out of the 6 front players that would have been in the first team last year… that’s a massive change when you consider that the top 4 aren’t really ringing the changes this year….
then there’s the over all quality
if liverpool get Barry their midfield is looking very good…. gerrard and barry already showed how well they play together for England… they are 2 of the most complete midfielders in the premier league… then with Torres and keane up front… along with Babel on one of the wings that becomes quite a worrying team. Arsenal have still got a good team… Van Persie is fit again (finally) for his annual 12 games along with 30 goal Adebayor (I still don’t actually rate him, but he scores goals) and Eduardo to come back… along with Walcott (who is becoming the player lennon should have been) Rosicky and fabregas… and let’s face it… the child groomer could have 11 league 2 players for an hour and have them playing a decent level of football…
I won’t even bother to point out the gap between us and Chelsea and Man Utd cos we’re not even close… However good Man U were last year, we have to remember the scum weren’t far behind come the end of the season….
I’m not saying Andy Gray is right… but there is every chance he may not be far wrong!
