Jim Magilton clearly means business next season if this latest capture is anything to go by. While the deal is not quite yet done, this signing would surely make Ipswich one of the favourites to gain promotion from the Championship this season, especially as they’ve already captured Kevin Lisbie from Colchester.
The Tractor Boys had a problem last season, it was called their away form. While they regularly trounced teams at Portman Road, they were woeful on the road for much of the season, although the Daily Mail reports that they are close to landing David Nugent from Portsmouth. The striker has had a very shoddy time of things at Fratton Park and the arrival of Peter Crouch pushes him further down the pecking order.
Ipswich have moved closer to completing a £5.5million deal for Portsmouth striker David Nugent.
An initial bid for the England man stalled last week over his wages and reluctance to drop down a division, but Nugent now seems ready to accept a move so he can return to regular action.
Indeed, one of Nugent’s only goals last season came against Ipswich, while the striker had a habit of scoring against Town while he was at Preston. Surely fans of the Suffolk club would be delighted for their team to make this sort of signing, someone who is proven at Championship level and still potentially has his best days ahead of him.
