Tottenham manager puts the brakes on Man United’s £28m dream move: Look who’s set to stay!
by offsidetrap on August 11th, 2008Juande Ramos has been what we like to call a “casual observer” during Tottenham and Manchester United’s transfer saga involving striker Dimitar Berbatov. After staying quiet for almost the entire length of the transfer ordeal, the Spanish manager has finally made it clear in regard to where he’d like to see Berbatov playing next season.
Get the BEST deals on footy gear
The 27-year-old has made little secret of his desire to move to Old Trafford and with Sir Alex Ferguson desperate to sign a new striker before the end of the transfer window, the former Bayer Leverkusen man would have hoped to solve the Scot’s forward crisis.
Ramos, however, is keen to keep hold of the player, with his new-look team beginning to take shape after the arrival of several high-profile players.
“I would be absolutely delighted if Berbatov was still at the club after the end of the transfer window,” said the Spaniard.
“He is a magnificent player and we want to enjoy another season of him at this club.” (Daily Telegraph)
With Ramos making his intentions known, it’s now up to Berbatov to forget about the potential move for one season and just play football. He indeed looked like a disinterested observer over the weekend when he was on the pitch, so it will be in Ramos’ best interest to get his ace in the right frame of mind. Regardless, keeping the big Bulgarian was a must. With Ramos’ current haul over the summer, Berbatov at his best gives Tottenham a legitimate chance to push for the top six.
What do Tottenham fans think about Ramos’ comments? Do you think Berbatov staying is the best thing for both parties involved?

If he goes I cannot see anybody getting us goals, Bent could hit a donkeys arse with a banjo from 2 foot.
Anonymous - August 11th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
no bent will deffo score goals for us this season along wiv dos santos + we now got money for arshavin .
gh - August 11th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
abbeyid bent got 12 goals in 6 pre-season game might only be fiendly’s but not bad is it really
Look In The Mirror! - August 11th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
Too bad Spurs have said they will not take less than 38 million from Man U not 28 million

Abbey Yid? Who are ya?!
joe - August 11th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
berba has to stay if we want to achieve top 5 place this season ashavin and berbatov would be a great partnership with bent on standby with modric bentley and de santos in midfield things look good the defence still needs some new recruits we look a bit brittle at the back woody and king are very good but injury prone very impressed with gomes……….

Abbeyid is an idiot for those who couldn’t figure it out for themselves. Bent’s strike rate for a relegated team two years ago was outstanding.
A combination of niggling injuries and a Keane/Berbatov partnership that worked brilliantly led to him to not getting enough playing time when he was fit, which led to a lack of confidence.
Bent is clearly our best option starting the season, especially if we are to play one up top.
If we keep Berbatov he must play second fiddle to the guy who has earned the right to start. Poetic justice.
Let the arrogant Bulgarian EARN his right to play.
gh - August 11th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
is berbatov actually on record saying anything, its all been paper and agent bollox hasn’t it?
yid army - August 11th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
The reason bent ws shit last season was because we tried to play some ball over the top all the time when defences sit too deep for that now but this season he will be played through rather than over the top which will suit him better and also this season he knows if he scores and plays well he will stay in the team when last season he knew no matter how well he played he wouldn’t start the next game cos of Keane and that bulgarian prick. yes he is a bulgarian prick!!!!

“The 27-year-old has made little secret of his desire to move to Old Trafford”
When has he said anything at all about wanting a move to Old Trafford? He has not mentioned anything to the press about wanting to leave/quit Spurs nor handed in a transfer request. He looks no more moody than when he first started playing at the lane so I’m unsure where this information comes from.
Even if a move to old trafford does materialise, I can’t see his general personality on the pitch changing and I think this is what people have been reading into. He’s just a grumpy bugger, thats his way.

I will just wait and see what’s going to be, I’m tired of all this will-he, wont-he saga. If he stays, that would be a great moveb and give him a chance to be part of the wonder team of Ramos. All i see, since Ramos’s come is - improving. The mentality as a team has changed completely. There is a lot more confidence in our players now. And they play, you must be blind do not see it, a simply beautiful fooball… I became a Tottenham not long a go, 2006, as soon as Beraba arrived. Since then i follow the team and sometimes i even feel obsessed :). Being many times already at WHL gave me few of the most memorable moments in my life and the 5:1, against you know who:), is just unforgetable and if Berba stays there will be a lot more moments to remember… Ramos will make Mr. Sulk bless us with his magic:)
JohnnyB - August 11th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Berbs has been reported to have told his team mates that, he’ll be a Utd player by the end of the week…..might have something to do with Fergie saying he expects to have a striker signed by the end of the week…..mind you if Fergie unveils Huntlaar, Dimi will throw ALL his toys outta the pram!!!

Mr Bowman?
Scorpion - August 11th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
gh: Agreed his agent is a self serving (large) pile of crap, but if Berbatov wanted to change the image that his agent has presented of him, he should fire him and publicly state that it wasn’t him that said those things that made us (and his teammates) so angry at him.
Time for Berbatov to grow up, stop waving his arms and sulking when things don’t go his way, honor his contract and fire the fat tudn that represents him.
And start playing bleeding football which is the only thing he is (very) good at.
DublinYid - August 11th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
He is strangely quiet about the whole thing, as is his wanker of an agent who got his 15 minutes of fame last season.
I think if he is causing distain in the dressing room, then get rid. He will end up feeling the wrath of old red eyes within two months. I’d like to see him refusing to warm up for whiskey face.
mickey - August 11th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
He needs to be sold, as the fans & the players have had enough of this saga. But even if it means just money back, he should not be sold to Man U; just to make a point to those arrogant pricks.
Borat - August 11th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
If his performance against Roma was anything to go by - good riddance get someone else that actually wants to wear the lilley white
davspurs d - August 11th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
I think ramos should keep him and play him because no one noes what he is going to do sme times he forgets and does a wonderfull pass and the spurs team just play around him he is a perfect foil for our new and fast players he can stay in the middle flicking passes he will soon get fed up when we are top and utd are trailing with no fucker to score unless they introduce penaltys ha hah ha super spurs and the sulk will smile all the way to the top
[D][P][F] - August 11th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
COYS berbas a waste of space standing around not even tryin if the ball aint to his feet while bent works his socks of has been scorin goals aswell

the cock - August 11th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
the one thing that i have noticed about berbatov & it is as clear as daylight & that is none of his team mates like him & i don`t think he likes many of them, you can see it their manner towards him on the pitch & his towards them ,i think it would be better 4 them if he goes ,better team spirit & i bet they would be glad 2 see the back of him & if thats the case so would i
Juande - August 12th, 2008 at 12:00 am
We must keep Berba, once the window closes he should realize that sulking will only reduce his chances of performing and thus the possibility of future big-profile moves. If he’s not stupid, he knows what to do, and that’s banging the goals in.
The Truth - August 12th, 2008 at 12:11 am
Okay: Lets stop the specualtion and look at the facts and options.
1. Man td have made it clear they want Berbatov.
2. Levy stated that Keane AND BERBATOV intmated to that the wanted to move to LIverpool and Man Utd respectively.
3. Berbatov has never made a public statement to say that he want’s to stay at Spurs, even 50/50 players blag that i case their deal falls throuh (Look no further than Adibayor and Henry before he went to Barca)
If we hold onto Berba we wont get anywhere ner the best out of him. Lets take the CASH let the guy go nd enjoy watching what he can do at the very top Level for the best club in the world at the moment. We can still enjoy it when he helps Utd Spank the Scummers in ALL competions.
There may not be another Berbatov out there but they’ll be plenty of world class players, some possibley even better, that will grace the Turf of Whie hart Lane (or a new stadium) in our life time.
Spurs 4 life - August 12th, 2008 at 3:38 am
I do hope Berba will stay. To those of you who think otherwise, either get on the club’s board or shut up!!! Enough is enough!!!!!
yidarmy - August 12th, 2008 at 8:19 am
dunno if any one else knows bout this but.. david villa was seen in a london airport on saturday or sunday and rumours suggest he was heading for a meeting with spurs. if and when he signs hell be our scorer.
southern spur - August 12th, 2008 at 10:38 am
some how i dont think david villa would be able to get from spain to a london airport without being noticed by the reporters, if he did then they really arent doing their jobs right. shame really but that is a rumour that wont materialise
abbeyid - August 12th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
if berba goes we are doomed to another mid season finish
southern spur - August 13th, 2008 at 10:43 am
well apparenly not, bye bye berba. made some great signings but to let our best 2 players of last year go is so frustrating
