Arsenal manager makes it clear that he’s back on the transfer market: Could a new midfielder be in the cards?
by offsidetrap on August 15th, 2008After a gutty 2-0 win yesterday against Second-Choice Steve’s FC Twente, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger made it crystal clear that, while the win was fantastic, his team is still struggling in one major area: depth.

Arsene Wenger says he will make a new signing within the next two weeks. William Gallas and Emmanuel Adebayor scored to give Arsenal a 2-0 win in the Champions League third round first leg qualifier against Steve McClaren’s FC Twente in Arnhem last night.
But after being outplayed, particularly in the opening period, Arsenal boss Wenger knows he needs to strengthen his squad, with a central midfielder top of his list.
‘Something will certainly be done ahead of the second leg on 27 August, but not before Saturday,’ said Wenger as his side took a massive step towards the £20million bonus for being among Europe’s elite.
With his squad hit by injuries, Wenger admits it is unlikely he will be able to make many changes for Saturday’s Premier League game against West Brom. Wenger, who had to leave Cesc Fabregas, Philippe Senderos, Samir Nasri and Kolo Toure in London, said: ‘Our squad looks big because the players who were here did well. (Daily Mail)
After Cesc Fabregas went down earlier this week, Wenger realised that his squad could definitely use some added depth at the midfield position with the season starting on Saturday. No serious names have been thrown around the rumour mill as of yet; however, one would have to assume that Wenger is probably going to add a veteran central midfielder that could act as a stop-gap if Fabregas went out for an extended period of time during the season.
Do Arsenal supporters believe the club need to make another move before the transfer deadline? Who would you like Wenger to target?

JakeGooner - August 15th, 2008 at 11:48 am
Yaya now cuptied for Barca - unlikely Wenger would buy someone we can’t use in CL

Why another central midfielder?! Need a centre back, then Kolo can play midfield if needed-but there is no decent cover at the back if Kolo or Gallas gets injured-and no height either to counteract the long ball tactics of liverfool or chelski
gunner4eva - August 15th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
I would say either inler or toulalan from Lyon, experience that is needed. Reminds me of gilberto a bit. hope wenger signs someone sooner rather than later.

Djourou is the CB cover. We desperstely need center-midfielders. Randall and ramsey just arn’t good enough at the moment. It doesn’t really matter who the new signing as long as they are top quality with experience.

veloso
alonso, toure and cana now all cuptied so unable to play
veloso a little expensive, but can play in defence, good shot, very skillful and technically very good and would complement Cesc very well in my opinion.
Inler would be another option but I think veloso could turn out to be an aboslutely brilliant player at Arsenal
The Voice Of Reason - August 15th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Stop talking about Yaya people. He will not be coming to Arsenal for two reasons. One, he’s cup tied. Two, do you really think Arsene would pay millions of pounds for a player he could have had for next to nothing a couple years ago? If you think so, you really haven’t been paying attention the last 10 years.
It’s going to be Inler.

Wenger should get a midfielder on time cos injuries can hit Arsenal at delicate times at the middle of the season.
marc - August 15th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
how about Viera? Not seen any PV rumours. Would love to have him back
gfl - August 15th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
wenger should get a striker a couple of midfielders and a good goalie, than we can win something even the Carling Cup will do.
Jimmy - August 15th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Lorik Cana should cum 2 us.
dream on spuds - August 15th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
cana is now cup tied along with barry, alonso & yaya.
A annan said he see’s himself at man u so he can fuck off
so it look’s as if it will be michael johnson or gokhan inlar
most prob inlar cause he’s a foreigner.
momadou - August 16th, 2008 at 12:24 am
lorik cana is out of his mind……he’ll get a red card every game he plays
yeah right.. - August 16th, 2008 at 4:16 am
Wenger likes them young and inexperienced
for some reason…hmm..cheaper..but yaya
toure is staying with barca..the newcomers
prpbably going to be swiss or french
Xavier Margariaz would play well with
cesc, nasri, and theo..but song and diaby
are gonna play much better…a true right
wing player seems like an obvious choice
for arsenal right now

i have hard most of you talk about cana who knows that guy which team is he playing for, have you have also started to gamble about like our manager . i have always talked the truth and said our fate lies in our hands . we have talked and given our views so the moment of truth is on sunday . this game will prove us otherwise .so lets sit and may be hope for a miracle to happen
Mohd Fauzi - August 16th, 2008 at 10:04 am
Cana and yaya out of choice. Alonso 50-50, most probably gonna be for Inler/ Veloso (but price too high for wenger)/ de la red…But guys don’t dream for goalie, defender and even striker…U guys should know who’s Arsene Wenger…I’m the person thinking about to sign big names in every position as well but not now, maybe next season when we win the EPL or Barclays at the end of season

Ever saw some athletes on “” AffluentMeet.com ” It’s a place for romancing with the rich & celeb…. I know even the athletes may feel lonely sometimes.
Gunnermania - August 16th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
I think we need Juninho…….
afc - August 16th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
i think arsenal will get miguel velosa from sporting lisbon. He’s a defensive mid with good experience and has a lot of talent (probably because he comes from sporting lisbon where ronaldo and nani came from).
4tune emeka - August 16th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
Are u sure dat yaya played since they av keita or so from sevilla. We need sum1 like yaya. cana and toulalan may also be likely options since wenger likes them french. michael johnson is an ideal target as he is young and with P.L experience but 1 thing im tired of is young kids. Im not comfortable wit inler as i dont even know him.
de la red is another target but without enuf xperience. i would luv 2 get veloso as he is skilled.
I AM TIRED OF YOUNG CHILDREN. THE BEST BUT MOST UNREALISTIC CHOICE IS SENNA…

IN WENGER YOU MUST TRUST.
It could be a veteran, It could be a rookie, but as long as Wenger’s at the helm, the wizard will deliver the goods. Trust!
4tune emeka - August 16th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Buying only 1 player b4 d end of the season is a stupid idea. Since weve sold hoyte and may soon sell senderos, arsene would be forced 2 buy a defender along wit d D.M he’s planning 2 buy.
