Arsenal set to sign £3m starlet: Could be the next Walcott!
by Mr Comfort on August 17th, 2008According to this source Arsene Wenger is set to sign this young Ipswich talent!
Why not continue this discussion at the COS forum?
Arsene Wenger is to carry on seeing through his policy of recruiting talented youth players by eyeing up Ipswich winger Danny Haynes. The Peckham-born midfielder has made nearly a century of appearances for Ipswich, racking up close to one goal every four games.
Like current Arsenal winger, Theo Walcott, Haynes has adopted a cult status due to his ability to come off the bench and change a game with his lightning pace and strong acceleration.
Toward the back end of last season the 20-year old featured in a Friends of Kanu versus Portsmouth XI charity match, sparking speculation he was about to embark on a transfer to the Hampshire side.
Instead, it is Arsenal who are reportedly lining up his signature after watching his outing in the first round of the Carling Cup, where he bagged a brace.
A fee of £3million would be enough for the Suffolk side to depart with their fleet-footed winger. (goal.com)
Arsenal have a great many young Brits pushing for a first-team appearance, which puts to bed the theory that the north London club has some aversion to fielding homegrown talent. With the likes of Wilshere, Randall and Ramsey all on the bench on Saturday it looks like the club has more than enough youthful potential. However, Haynes is a damn fine talent who already has a great deal of experience, albeit at Championship level, and he would be a good player to invest in who could well make the grade in the top tier. Do Gunners fans see the Ipswich man as a player who could have a future at the club?

Alan - August 17th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
He looks a decent young player and i read we were closing in on him, but is he good enough?
Neal - August 17th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
Hang on, English, highly-rated, £3m….. something doesn’t quite add up here!
Nathan - August 17th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
Is it just me or was Walcott the worst of the lot yesterday?
Smudger - August 17th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
It’s just you.
Tony - August 17th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
I hope he’s better than Walcott!! Walcott was terrible yesterday and even worse in the Champions League.
Sorry Smudger - August 17th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Smudger, you’re wrong mate, and Nathan is right. Walcott was the worst player on the pitch by a country mile.
drdetet - August 17th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Frankly all the shit you guys post on this foolish fuckoffside are just bull shit made up for people to come. Why do u keep doing this?
Go fucks ur moms
Confused - August 17th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
Why do you come to the site and post a message then?
Lala - August 17th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
Smudger should ask you; are you Walcott’s dick or the one who sucks it for him?
fran - August 17th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Walcott’s development has sadly stagnated, we need cover in that area.
elvis - August 17th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
walcott has promised much and delivered nothing.he can be an impact sub at best.
chris - August 17th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
walcotts amazing if arsenal dont wnat him i will have him at man city anyday
Neal - August 17th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
Sorry Chris, but there are some morons about. Walcott’s been on fire all through preseason, and the whole team has suffered due to a lack of a creative midfielder in the centre of the park.
Pat Rice - August 17th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
“Arsenal set to sign £3m starlet”
No were not,
Are you making this up again?
Jack Staniforth - August 17th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Forgive me but I`m an old guy waiting for something to happen and I don`t have time to watch another protege develop into a media promoted world class player. Theo has not developed at the rate I would have expected. Nasri (the little rat) and Vela ( the fox in the box) make him look very ordinary. My focus now seems to be on the likes of Jack Wilshere and a couple of his mates who Arsenal`s platform for the not too distant future.
dream on spuds - August 17th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
If walcott was the worst player on the pitch then that sack of shite called eboue came a close second!
Three clear shots on goal & each one flew about 10 yards wide thats piss poor for arsenal standards.
Adebayor wants henry’s wages yet he should of scored at least 2/3 yesterday he just cant finish his chances like the great henry could.
G4L - August 17th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
WALCOTT IS CRAP WE SHOULD SELL HIM AND GET ALONSO. AND EBOUQI, BENDNER ,SENDEROS.
cally gooner - August 17th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Some rationality please. Walcott had a poor game, and needs to show some consistency. As to Haynes given the doubts around the fitness of R.V.P ,Rosisky and Diaby surely the priority must be on players who are ready now. We’ve got Wilshire in the wings if Walcott turns into Aaron Lennon, and there is also Vela
nick e - August 17th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
oh no, not the next walcott, we are still waiting to see when the original turns up!!!
Samir - August 17th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Walcott is shite. Plain and simple.
Seriously, can anyone think of a plausible argument in his favour? His run at Anfield? How long is he going to live off of that? Why do the Emirates crowd always chant his name? What are his credentials? What has he ever done to deserve that praise? He wasn’t even the best of the southampton youth team and never did anything of note for them so why the hype???
All we keep hearing is that he’s young. Messi is young, Ronney was young, Cesc was/is young. All of whom have shown/are showing more promise than Theo ever will.
This will be his third season. If he doesn’t perform he can do one.
As for Haynes, Pompey and Wigan been tracking him all summer. As the transfer deadline approaches, Ipswich realise no bid is forthcoming so someone within the club leaks the name of Arsenal to the papers just to try and get the other two to show their hand. I guarentee Arsenal are not even looking at him.
Samir - August 17th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
….Also Neal. When was Walcott on fire pre-season? His ineffective perfomance at Barnet? His one goal in a game that finished 10-2? His continued misplaced passes against Ajax? His being muscled off the ball constantly against Huddersfield? His wayward crossing against Juve?
I fail to see when he was “on fire”.
Arsene Wenger - August 17th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Sell Senderos, Almunia, Djourou, Adebayor, Bendtner, Denilson.
I don’t want another Walcott.
Gunner Z - August 17th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Aw has been talking about lack of experience. maybe this one is for at the latest next year.
If Arsenal fail to fight for th title we will know who has been responsible and which policy was to be blamed.
frankly I’m getting of these so called starlets.
Komo - August 17th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
U guys we c walcolt shining soon jst watch out
blackstarr_gunner4lf - August 17th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
Give Walcott a break he had a bad first game. He just needs more time than most to adjust. He’s not Rooney or any other carbon copy young player out there. Whilst hes a gunner get behind him and will him well. I know in my mind hes further up on the ratings board than eboue but has played less than him so give him a chance!!! The kid has’nt even a full run out in the team yet!
RPN_ArsenalFC - August 18th, 2008 at 3:00 am
Stop all the bull shit.. Walcott was ok, and he just needs to be nasty like almunia said..Djourou & Denilson will be a fantastic player for arsenal.
Senderos is ok. Almunia, yes we need a relacement for him. Adebayor is also fantastic. But Bendtner, I agreed we have to sell him immediately, we had already had Vela which much much better than him…
nils - August 18th, 2008 at 6:39 am
oh god, not another walcott. one is more than enough. thanks but no thanks.
GunnerIndia - August 18th, 2008 at 6:51 am
Now walcott is a bad player bcuz of one bad game ???
comon guys he is young and will be the stand out this season wait and watch
Damien Silver - August 18th, 2008 at 7:53 am
well said GunnerIndia, so Walcott didnt have the best game, but we all know his talent, look at the back end of last season.
The difficult thing for Walcott is that he came with a huge reputation, and it has taken a little bit longer to settle in and show what he can do than was perhaps expected, but the guy is an amazing talent, he will get stronger, he will become more deadly, he might just need another 3 or games this season to get into his rhythm.
With respect to Haynes, he has been linked for a couple of weeks now, and I think would cost nearer the 5 million pounds mark than 3 million, but it is a good investment, if we loaned him out straight away i think in a couple of seasons he has enough talent to break into the first team.
mwelwa - August 18th, 2008 at 8:13 am
this is a definitive season we need to step up our game or we,ll neva make the finale or the grade, our start to the season hasnt been anything to ride home about but if we have a fit first team comprising the senior players 75% of the season we are in for silverware plus a midfield buy before the end of this transfer window then we,ll return to the glorious times !
real-arsenal-fans-dont-talk-this-shit - August 18th, 2008 at 8:38 am
plastic fans………. sell this guy n that guy n him and him…..
fukkin idiots ! ! thers about three guys on here who sound reasonable, the rest of you want to sell a chunk of the team, an ye’ll be the cunts out proclaiming how youve always been behind arsenal when those same players do the business for my club……….
it will take a few games till they settle a bit an find the fitness, get behind them ffs
Rex - August 18th, 2008 at 8:39 am
When did we see Walcott’s talent at the end of last season? Against Derby? In a nothing game against Sunderland?
The boy is shit and like “Samir” says, there is no justifiable argument for his involvement at Arsenal.
Look at the way Agbonlahor played yesterday, he is everything Walcott should be but isnt and sadly never will be.
Damien Silver - August 18th, 2008 at 8:46 am
what about the Champions League Liverpool game?
Jackman (arsenal fan) - August 18th, 2008 at 8:53 am
Wohoooooooooooo hes english!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Arsene Wenger - August 18th, 2008 at 9:49 am
Anyone who claims to be a ‘real fan’ is an idiot.
Who gives a fuck how much you like Arsenal you elitist twats!
PS Do you have to have a massive beer gut and talk like an inbred to be a real fan? Looks that way from my season ticket seat…
Knighty - August 18th, 2008 at 11:55 am
I went to the game on Saturday and I have to say that Walcott was not great and that’s the reality. Even as one of his biggest fans it’s clear to see that he is finding things tough!!
But unlike some complete retards that write such short sighted bullshit on these sites I do feel that the boy will come good. He needs to have one position (on the wing) and a run in the team in that position to make it his own.
It’s all well and good playing him sporadically on the wing and then upfront and then back on the wing but you have to ask what is he actually learning when you do this? In my opinion not enough to make that one position his own!
It is clear for anyone that really knows anything about football that Walcott has the talent to make it but I feel to much pressure and not enough consistency has been placed on very young shoulders and that has clearly had an effect on his development.
Some of you so called supporters do make me laugh though when you say sell this player and that player and how rubbish some players are but what the fuck do you know?? You’re not the Manger of “The Arsenal” Wenger is and in him, I (and the majority of Arsenal fans) trust……….Not YOU!!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and fair play for having one that is your own, but I thought our role as supporters is to get behind and “Support” the team through good times and bad and lets be honest they ain’t that bad………..are they?
Maybe those who don’t want to support “The Arsenal” and it’s players can fuck off and support the scum shite that is Chelsea or Tottenham………..or any other team in the country for that matter. I’m sure they’ll be that much better that you don’t have to moan your bollox off every chance you get!! Maybe you’ll be able to write something positive? How cool would that be?!?!?!
massi - August 18th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Walcott is shit and needs to produce something or else…
was Vela not in the team on saturday?
clockendjim - August 18th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
There were signs at the end of last season that at last Walcott was beginning to develop. Sadly his performance against WBA was in the headless chicken class once more.
If only he would look up now and again and not run straight into defenders, he might give himself more of a chance. Until then, I would leave him on the bench and bring him on as an impact player with pace near the end of match, particularly if we are behind and chasing the game. I’ve not given up on him yet, but he has played enough now in the first team to be contributing much more than he has so far.
Drr - August 18th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
The next Walcott? Walcott is still the next Walcott!!
gunner2008 - August 18th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
He doesn’t get stuck in enough! he gets pushed off the ball far to easily!! he always decides to drift as well from his position!! if anyone saw the game against west brom he kept drifting to far forward!!
What id personally like to see from him is taking people on and getting a cross in cause he clearly has the pace!!
BLUES4E - August 18th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
YOU GOONERS HAVEN’T GOT CHANCE FOR ANY TROPHY THIS SEASON COS WE ARE GOING TO WIN EVERYTHING, I RECKON SPURS GOT MORE CHANCE THAN YOU ONCE THEY GET SORTED OUT.THEY WERE THE ONLY TEAM THAT GAVE US A HARD MATCH LAST SEASON, BUT I CANNOT SEE ARSENAL GETTING ANYWHERE.
sonic - August 18th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
1000% true samir i agree with you all the way. the guy is totally useless he just runs without a destination and leaves the ball behind or runs into a defender and wall down. sum p*ssy. i prefer eboue although hes sh*t aswell. sell senderous and bendter with him on the pitch its like we playing againt 12 men
Laugh at Spurs - August 18th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
NOoooo.. please not ANOTHER walcott… he was so poor again… He will not make it at Arsenal, if he was not English we would have all slated him b y now.. Lets just hope Wilshire comes good!
lick my crack - August 18th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Arse will not sign him because he is English!
Arsenal are to far behind MAN U, CHELSEA AND LIVERPOOL.
Harry - August 18th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
BLUES4E, Chelsea cunt I presume? Spurs the only team to give you ‘hard match’ (I heard that’s what Ashley Cole is into…) last season?
Call me crazy but I’m sure Arsenal beat you?
lick my crack, 2006 called and wants its misguided opinion back.
